It’s time for Trials of Survival!

This is the 5th of the Trials in the 3rd Cycle!

NOTE: The Trial officially starts at 07:00 GMT. This post is scheduled to go live earlier at 05:30 GMT.

If you do not see the Class Trial in Quests as of 07:00 GMT, force quitting and reopening the app or restarting your device will usually work.

:beginner: Overview

Classes Bosses Monsters
Barbarians & Rogues Nashgar, Domitia, Scarlett, Azlar Red/Fire & Purple/Dark

 Increased Difficulty of the Final Stage

According to the Version 20 Release Notes, the Final Stage of Class Trials is now harder:

We definitely saw that in action in Trials of Justice, Shadows, Strength, and Mysticism — but it was not so apparent in Trials of Fortitude and Serenity, where the HP of the Final Bosses remained the same.

It’s possible, however, that other adjustments were made to Defense or Attack, or to the monsters prior to the bosses.

Trials v19 HP v20 HP Increase
Strength 3907 4080 173
Fortitude 4195 4195 0
Mysticism 4051 4396 345
Serenity 3907 3907 0
Survival 3619 3907 288
Piety 4195 TBD TBD
Decimation 4051 TBD TBD
Nature 3763 TBD TBD
Shadows 3763 3907 144
Justice 3763 4051 288

If it is harder, the big question is: How much harder?

Trials of Survival previously had 3619 HP per Final Boss.

That originally made it the lowest HP for Final Bosses of any of the Trials — which was welcomed with our lack of healers to choose from.

We’ve seen 4 of the 6 Trials so far since Version 20 was released have moderate HP increases, and 2 have no increases at all.

It’s very possible that Trials of Survival will fall in with Trials of Fortitude and Serenity without increases in HP. If there are increases, every little bit is likely to add notably to the difficulty of Trials of Survival, given the lack of healers.

Did you notice any change in difficulty for the Final Stage?

  • YES! It was much harder
  • Yes, it was a little harder
  • Yes…I think…maybe it was a little harder? Didn’t really seem any different.
  • No, I don’t think I noticed a difference

 Final Boss HP

Version 19: Each boss in Stage 3 had 3619 HP

Version 20: Each boss in Stage 3 has 3907 HP

thanks, @Expired for the screenshot of the updated Final Boss HP!

Trials of Survival previously had 3619 HP per Final Boss.

That originally put it as the weakest Final Bosses of any of the Trials, and the update to 3907 HP keeps it in line with the lowest HP amounts we’ve seen in other updated Trials so far.

:dart: Carpet Bombing/Item Nuking

For many players who can get through the monsters to the Final Bosses, but struggle to beat the Final Bosses, carpet bombing/item nuking the Bosses is a viable strategy.

:school_satchel: Additional Recommended Items

  • Given the lack of healers in the Barbarian and Rogue Classes, health pots are a likely must-have item for Trials of Survival.

  • Nashgar in Stages 1 and 3 and Azlar in Stage 3 cause DoT (damage over time) status effects, and Scarlett in Stages 2 and 3 causes an attack debuff, so antidotes can be extremely useful for clearing these status effects.

  • Banners are always a good option for increasing defense and/or attack.

  • Revive or Miracle Scrolls can be an effective option if your team is on the weaker side, and the little extra boost will get your through. Be mindful that Midnight Root, Orichalcum Nugget, and Meteor Fragments can be difficult to come by to make this a sustainable approach.

  • Time Stops can be an effective, albeit resource-expensive, way of preventing Bosses from firing, and providing you more opportunities to manage the board to charge specials and do damage. Be mindful that Dragon Bone can be difficult to come by to make this a sustainable approach.

If you plan on carpet bombing/item nuking, focus on surviving until the Bosses, and don’t worry too much about counteracting them, particularly if you’re going for a full nuke them from orbit approach. Use your item slots for your attack items, and any remaining slots for health.

If you need it, @Mariamne’s full guide to the Trials and Hero Classes is here .

@madmarv has also been doing a video tutorial series for each Trial, attempting to use only classic 4* heroes if possible.

NOTE: @madmarv is planning to create new video guides for the updated Class Trial difficulty as of the V20 release.

  • I used some items to finish off the bosses, but it wasn’t the full arsenal
  • I used support items like mana, banners, healing, and maybe a battle item or two, but nothing too crazy
  • I just used some minor items, like healing, mana, or antidotes

Even making the threads each time, they sometimes sneak up on me — this one definitely did, though I have the WE for it.

It isn’t hardest trial for me, Grimmcwith 2x Scarlett and LJ is pure destruction. Mariana is hard and she can dodge.

This one will be fast and brutal:

One of my favourite trials. Lack of healer makes it interesting and the sheer damage output makes it fun.
I could make a full babarian team (Kage,Azlar,Gormek,Grimm,LJ) but I also have Danze for some holy damage and I’ve trained up Scarlett from 1/1 to +7. Then I have a Kelile in training (4/~50), but I don’t think I’m gonna use her outside of the shadow trials.

Guh. I’m not going to do good on this one. I have a max+7 Grimm then a bunch of 3/60s… and a Karil. :disappointed_relieved::disappointed_relieved::disappointed_relieved:

I have all the dates, but what time do the trials normally start?

If you ever forget, I always put it at the top of these threads:

I’m really weak in both classes here: Barbarians are Namahage 1/25, Nashgar 1/9; Karil 1/1 Rogues: Carver 3/50; Marjana 2/49; Kelile 3/10.

Gonna plan on only two levels on this one, I think.

Sounds like that’s probably all that’ll be feasible. Trying to drag them through the bosses in Stage 3 for nuking would require a fair bit of board luck, and probably some Revive Scrolls at the least.

It would probably be a Pyrrhic victory at best.

I forgot to take some antidotes along again, but luckily Danze made Nashgar miss all his specials and their Azlar didn’t get to fire at all.
Only used 1 banner to dispel Scarlett.

Dunno how to spend my rouge emblems. Scarlett will get them, but I don’t know if mana path is better. I only leveled her def+health so far. Don’t use her for titans, so I don’t see the point of raising her attack further.

I use my Scarlett on titans, so I like her attack stat high. It’s also befitting her existing strengths, and I’ve largely been using the Talent Grid to amplify heroes into more powerful versions of themselves instead of trying to “fix” their shortcomings.

I’m personally a bit skeptical of the usefulness of faster mana in most situations. Absent solid troops, Sakura family bonus, or mana buffers, it can be difficult for it to make much difference in practice.

A good starting point for considering how far you are from it applying is this thread below:

(tl:dr upshot: you “only” need a level 23 mana troop for Scarlett to shave off a tile instead of level 28…but that’s still likely over a year of leveling progress unless you’re a big spender on Troop summoning for feeders)

As my team is still growing, it is hard to compare due to improving team.

I replace maxed Nashgar with 3/60 Danzaburo.

10 Healing Potions, 5 Potent Healing Potions, 4 Bomb Attacks, 2 Dragon Attacks.

I bring two type of healing potions. The final bosses only have 3907 HP, so it is manageable with only bombs and dragons for carpet bombing.

I’m saving barbarian emblems for Grimm. I only have one 4* Rogue but I feel Danzaburo is rather unreliable so I don’t want to max him.

Probably Mnesseus… I’d like another dispeller for my 3* war team.

Was tossing up which items to use as I had no healers

Minor and potent healing potions got me to the final battle. Thsn it was time to nuke and cleanup.

My team was Gormek 70, Kage 80 Khoina 3.70 Gravemaker 80, Obakan 3.70

  • Did you notice any change in difficulty from last time?

cant remember

  • Did your team change notably since last time?

replaced Azlar 3.70 and MArjana 3.70 with Kage 80 (before he was at first ascend) and Khoina 3.70 just to try the new combination and it didnt help alot

  • What items did you use, if any?

couple of antidotes (will hope to remember to add banners next time) and 2 healing potions (just to be safe)

  • Trials of Survival is well-named for its lack of healers in the Barbarian and Rogue Classes — how did you do without healers?

it certainly was difficult specially when khoina (added her on the team for elemental link healing) died at the final seconds i used couple of healing potions to make sure no other one died

  • What are you doing with your shiny new Emblems?

Rouge will go to guardian jackal (only rouge who is maxed) and barbarian for Kage

  • If you beat Stage 3, who’s eating the 3* Trainer Hero?

Can’t decide yet if i should ascend a 3.70 5* to the last or start a new 4* or should i just give them to Kunchen (currently 4.29)

  • Anything else interesting to share?

good luck to all and bring banners potions and revive scroll for emergencies or just NUKE the hell out of the bosses if you cant make it

This was a good one for me:

The lineup change from last time was replacing Carver with Little John, and it made a huge difference. Entered the boss wave with multiple diamonds ready and let loose. LJ’s special kept the mana situation in control. Only Nashgar got his special off.

The lack of a healer wasn’t a real problem: I had enough offensive firepower to move through the waves quickly. Used most of the minor healing and healing positions. Didn’t need any bombs or dragon attacks.
