Or: How many summons are needed to get a Legendary Challenge Event Hero?

It’s important to remember that Challenge Event Heroes have EXTREMELY low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a Challenge Event Hero.

On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 1.65% chance of summoning Mr. Pengi.

But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.

Some useful insights:

  • 15 times out of 100, you’ll get Mr. Pengi by pull 100 (26,000 gems)
  • 56 times out of 100, you’ll get Mr. Pengi by pull 500 (130,000 gems)
  • 95 times out of 100, you’ll get Mr. Pengi by pull 1,796 (467,200 gems)
  • 99 times out of 100, you’ll get Mr. Pengi by pull 2,761 (717,900 gems)

Putting that in Perspective

  • 85 out of every 100 people won’t get Mr. Pengi by the 100th pull

  • If 1 Million players each spent $259.97 (US) to summon :one::zero::zero: times, 846,364 of those players wouldn’t get Mr. Pengi

  • 5 out of every 100 people won’t get Mr. Pengi by the 1800th pull

  • If 1 Million players each spent $4,671.53 US to summon :one::eight::zero::zero: times, 49,663 of those players wouldn’t get Mr. Pengi

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these three threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

@PlayForFun is it possible to do 15 consecutive hits?

The way I understand from what I’ve seen others say, yes… If you have 5 heroes with 3 minions each, he would do 1 main hit then 15 additional its. It sounds like it is expounding reduction however, so the last few hits are going to be more like tickles than actual hits (by 15 it will be like 10-15% hit, so the equivalent of a single lower level minion hit).

If I misunderstand, can someone who is in Beta and has tested this confirm or deny?

I’m pretty sure that would be a first.
I can’t think of an exponential skill.

Other skills work sequentially. Adding 4% for every blahblahblah, and so on.

CORRECTION:
El Radir’s skill does work exponentially based on how many you take.

Beyond that tho… can’t think of any others

I think you’d be extraordinarily hard pressed to get a full set of minions in a meaningful time frame.
But with 1-2 fast summoners and PiB…
You could knock out 6-14 consecutive hits without breaking a sweat

If… it works this way

That would honestly make more sense and I hope that is the route they go. For 130 % / 15, if they wanted the last hit to be at like 20%, they’d would just say 8% for each consecutive hit.

As for the minions, I would be able to do it if I got Pengi by slapping Ludwig between him and MN. Minions, minions everywhere. I also have Frosth but, being blue, that doesn’t help much.

In my understanding, it could be a lot more.

If each enemie has three strong minions, it could be a really, really long special when the attack is gettign so low that the last minions could not been destroyed. Has this been tested in beta?

This guy was insane in beta. If you have even 9 minions vs 3 enemy heros left this guy basically wipes them.

His frost damage isn’t the best but he is insanely good on offense. On defense you can’t control how many minions you’ll have, but I see him being very good on mion wars along with Eiora.

I have 45 epic hero tokens, but the change to get a 5* is always bad :joy:

Yes, it is possible, but in Beta the damage went down to 1 after the 10th additional hit (so after the 11th hit if we include the main hit).
Each additional hit is getting weaker and weaker, but the total damage output was good.

Have you try to combine him with atk buff and def debuff ? Does he still make 1 damage on 11th attack ?

Yea, I was going to say. The extra damage, even though it can hit over dozen of times, very quickly goes down to be pretty insignificant. Still, Pengi is an interesting sniper (too bad in a color that’s already oversaturated with those) and forms unique synergy with his other family members, making it fun to play. Whether that’s worthy of mats over some more universal snipers, like C Magni, Alasie, Alice or Gaillard - you be the judge. Or your roster.

In ur personal opinion do who do u think is better gallaird or pengi

Well it all depends on how you play it.

If you take Pengi into a team with multiple minion summoners and attack a team with no fiend summoners - Pengi will perform far better than Gaillard.

If you take Pengi into a team with no other minions, and face fiends, he’ll be almost useless compared to Gaillard.

In a neutral territory, that is without minions and without fiends - Gaillard as a sniper is far better; Pengi can boost himself with is own minions to deal some extra damage on second charge, but these minions may as well be dead by the time he charges again.

Though Pengi might be interesting in defense also when paired with for example Bera tank. He’ll be a little Finley. If you are not prepared with minion counters, he may cause you some trouble. On the other hand, Gaillard in defense is imho rather useless compared to other snipers (and snipers aren’t really that great in defenses these days).

Having no plans to use either of those in defense, and being lucky to have pulled Gaillard - if I end up pulling Pengi, I will definitely max Gaillard first. His ability to counter fiends is currently most needed and still very unique in the game. Pengi doesn’t bring such utility; he may hit a lot if you build a team around him, but it’s still just dealing damage and summoning a minion; nothing you couldn’t live without.

At fast speed against minion teams, this guy is going to devastate. Upcoming nerf? Time will tell.

Edit: Penolite does have a slight advantage as she’ll deal her 490% to minion and fiend summoners but she’s only average speed.

You see him on defense, don’t bring too many minion summoners. Wonder how it will work if Krampus has taunt?

? Pengi relies on ally minions, not enemy minions.

Dang! Missed that part! Well, Penolite is definitely somewhat of a counter then. I wonder how popular he’ll be with all the fiend defenses?

Will probably see a resurgence of Freya/Bera defenses. Like they weren’t annoying enough.

Pengi is what happens when you give a penguin a rocket launcher but makes it into a fish launcher

i guess this hero would be good one to combine with HotM that summon minions. especially now that they will spawn them for all heros if you have two HotM of the same family.,
e.g. bertila, uraeus.

Santa, MN and Krampus with a side of Pengi and Freya perhaps
