Avoiding Overspending & Heartache
Or: How many summons are needed to get a Valhalla Non-Featured Legendary Hero?
Below odds are current as of June 30, 2020. Odds will change as additional S3 5* heroes are added to the “non-featured” hero pool.
It’s important to remember that Season 3 Valhalla Heroes have EXTREMELY low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a Season 3 Hero.
On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 1.43% chance of summoning Ratatoskr.
But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.
Some useful insights:
13 times out of 100, you’ll get Ratatoskr by pull 100
51 times out of 100, you’ll get Ratatoskr by pull 500
76 times out of 100, you’ll get Ratatoskr by pull 1500
89 times out of 100, you’ll get Ratatoskr by pull 1500
95 times out of 100, you’ll get Ratatoskr by pull 2073
99 times out of 100, you’ll get Ratatoskr by pull 3186
Putting that in Perspective
87 out of every 100 people won’t get Ratatoskr by the 100th pull
If 1 Million players each summoned 100 times, 870,000 of those players wouldn’t get Ratatoskr
5 out of every 100 people won’t get Ratatoskr by the 2073rd pull
If 1 Million players each summoned 2073 times, 50,000 of those players wouldn’t get Ratatoskr
More Insights & Reading
I highly recommend reading these threads for more information and context on summoning odds:
If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.
Basically ratatoskr debuffs / buffs any green tiles ON THE BOARD at the time of casting.
So if we look at using him in the attacking team:
Basically makes each tile worth x * {tile}
Not sure what X is tho, didn’t see any calculations from beta testing.
What we do know is that:
Ratatoskr stacks with Tarlak (and other similar normal attack buffers)
Ratatoskr TILE BUFF stacks with ATTACK buff (e.g. BT or Heimdall)
Another thing we know is that timing with Ratatoskr can be tricky… His special works by charging tiles ON THE BOARD but usually you’ve used all/most of the tiles on the board to charge him up (and your other greens). So essentially you have to wait, work the board a bit before pulling the trigger on his special in order to get a full benefit
Worth noting that the green tile buff can also surpass Tarlak’s cap. Heimdal + Tarlak + Ratatoskr can result in very deadly green matches.
What does make Ratatoskr tricky to use though is that he’ll only enhance the current green tiles on the board. The ones that follow later after his skill won’t be enhanced.
Basically, he rewards smart board manipulation, and I personally like that design as it is dependent on player skill to make the most of it. Worst case, he’s an average speed healer – best case, he’s a great support buffer and healer.
I wasn’t quite sure how he worked, so I just tested him at Level 1/1. When Ratatoskr activates, any green tiles that are on the board show up with extra attack. Any new tiles that move onto the board go back to normal (no extra attack). So it is definitely best to fire his special if there are a lot of green tiles on the board.
Yeah I think it’s not that big of a deal that it’s only on-screen tiles, because my experience with titans is that so much of your big scores comes from getting that one gem hit where every buff and debuff is active. Its hard and/or expensive to keep all the effects active the entire time, but having it for one or two big cascades where you use Ratatoskr should be enough to net huge scores.
You have a fair few green tiles on the board, charge Rata with mana potion, fire him off which activates the green tiles On the board, got all that But what about the following green tiles from that same go that following during a combo as they would then become part of that same special skill move.
No, the squirrel only buffs all green tiles, that are on the board when its special will be activated. Following green tiles won’t be buffed, no matter if they’ll follow on the next turn or during a big combo on the same turn.
Of all the heroes I tested in Beta the squirrel has the greatest potential but is also the hardest to use right. Timing his special once you have a lot of green tiles in play will cause major damage… but getting those green tiles seemed to get hard when he was charged
I read your explanation twice, but still don’t get it.
The attack part seems the most obvious: green tiles on the board get boosted. As I understand it, they do +64% more damage upon attack. So this is a bit like a +64% attack buff (with combination of hero buffs).
And how does it works for defense? Is it a -57% damage from green ennemies? I don’t understand that part.
I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned yet, but my first thought on seeing his skill was that the ideal titan scenario would be to use a Scroll of Alteration (preferably on an already green-laden board) and then fire Ratatoskr.
This hero, combined with Greg and Tarlak is going to be insane, since I pulled her/him, I’m seriously considering maxing her/him over Telluria because (s)he fulfills a role that I need met.
That would be really broken in my opinion because these tiles would also be enhanced by any attack buffs too and there are way too many. It would make a costumed Rigard + Ratatoskr green stack incredibly destructive. Then add in extra crit damage and you’d be balling out of control.
