Or: How many summons are needed to get a HOTM?

Special thanks to @Garanwyn & @zephyr1 for assistance on summoning odds and proofreading for this section.

It’s important to remember that HOTM have very low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a HOTM.

On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 12.3% chance of summoning the HOTM.

But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.

Some useful insights:

  • 73 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 100
  • 95 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 229
  • 99 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 352

Putting that in Perspective

  • 27 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 100th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 100 times, 270,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

  • 5 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 229th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 229 times, 50,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these three threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

Is shared damage a status effect? And would then direct damaged from shared attacks be redirected?

Shared damage is considered a buff

Not a lot of recent talk about Elradir considering he was just released. He seems alright based on his card, an interesting DoT damage reflect mechanic. Almost all of my current green 5* are snipers, so I’m thinking he could add something unique to my roster. Anyone play with him and have some first hand info on this hero?

Is there a poll for Elradir somewhere?

Has not his post-release thread yet. And I completely forgot he was released given that Atlantis portal replaces the HoTM banner with Attlantis heroes and that this Atlantis portal is not that interesting.

Don’t have him but he looks useful. Yeah, his reflect works only on him, but imagine him reflecting GM’s burn on entire opposing team. That’s got to be nasty. He’ll be useless on offense though and on defense it requires a bit to luck for him to get hit while his reflect is up.

Ah, that’s right, this is a pre-release thread.

I remembered as I was planning my free Atlantis pulls for his release (already have Yang).

There’s definitely some timing required with his special. I think of it similar to the mindless attack, you want to use it and start ramming tiles at heroes with DoT to activate them.

I saw in a Facebook thread that someone said he still received Alfrike’s Mindless attack. I haven’t been able to test out myself yet though.

It makes sense that he would. Receiving mindless attack doesn’t do direct damage to the hero that it hits, therefore there would be nothing to reflect.

Speaking of mindless attack, this could be one of those situations where Zocc is useful - pumping mana into a DOT enemy so that it either gets mindless attack or, if it has a class or innate resistance, it fires and gives Elradir the DOT which he then spreads to the enemy team. Or something like that. No?

I’m hoping to see some videos on just how this hero works. Seeing the excitment level is tepid, hopefully some kind soul power levels him and gives us the run down.

Cheers!

I meant he still received Mindless attack even though his innate ability should make it impossible, as he resists special skill blocking.

I see, sorry. I thought mindless attack counts as a mana ailment rather than a skill block though.

It’s both, I think. Posted above though it shows the different symbols for the included resistances

Got him today on my second free pull along with seshat. He will get tonics before Zocc.

No, silencing or blocking a special skill does not apply to Mindless Attack. If you look at the symbols, which others have posted, they are different. Mindless Attack’s symbol is the multi-blade purple fan, silencing or blocking a special skill is the cloud with the 3 dots in it. Someone pointed out they were pretty sure Miki blocks Mindless Attack. If he does, then this is a glitch SGG needs to fix. I was hoping @Guvnor could get in on this and clarify however.

This is actually wrong.

The icon has the “silence” thing in the resist, BUT if you read the actual description of the resistance it states:

This hero has an innate resistance against status ailments that block special skills.

The mindless attack is, by definition, a status ailment that blocks the use of the hero’s normal special skill.

Thus it is working per the description that Miki (and now Elradir) resist the application of Mindless Attack status ailment also,.

Actually no, the key word is “blocking”, which the symbol for blocking is the ONLY thing that should be applying, the cloud with the 3 dots in it. Mindless attack is a totally different symbol having nothing to do with blocking.

How does Mindless Attack not “block” the hero from casting their normal special skill?

Because it doesn’t block. It alters & redirects the attack, but it doesn’t block it.

Can the hero cast their normal special skill?

If yes, then no block
If no, then it blocks them from casting their normal skill

Regardless, I’m not a dev, just a player and that’s my opinion and how I view the situation :man_shrugging:

Incorrect. Blocking prevents a mana discharge. Mana discharge is not being blocked by Mindless Attack, it’s being used.
