Don’t get too attached

Details from Beta, especially brand-new Beta content, don’t tend to be very reliable for actual release.

It’s incredibly common that features are changed during Beta testing, or sometimes even after testing but before release. That is, after all, the purpose of Beta testing.

So I wouldn’t get too attached to any of this — it’s not unheard of for entire portions of features to be removed or reworked, or for radical changes to functionality to be made.

The launch date for Season 4 has been indicated as 2021-03-25T07:00:00Z

Season 4 Provinces

Overview

The map for Season 4 is set up more like the Season 1 map than Seasons 2 or 3. The map wanders in a down-ward direction (into the abyss I guess) with Province 1 at the top and Province 36 (latest seen) at the very bottom.

There are {36} Provinces shown in the current view, matching the number in Season 3.

We don’t know yet whether additional Provinces may be part of the initial release of Season 4, but it seems likely that they may be released 3 Provinces at a time, just like Season 2 and 3 were. As such, I expect that Season 4 (map content) will likely be released over the course of a year — but that’s just my own speculation, so please don’t presume it’s accurate.

Normal and Hard Modes

Much like Season 2 & 3, there are Normal and Hard Modes for each Stage, and the Normal Mode must be completed to unlock the Hard Mode.

It is not clear in this beta build if the Hard mode will function like Season 3 (where you must complete previous stages first) or like Season 2 (where you could jump back and forth over the map).

WE Costs

The WE Costs for Season 3 appear comparable to Season 2.

S4:1-1N is 6 WE, and S4:1-1H is 10 WE — exactly the same as Season 2 & 3.

Underwild Coins

Also like Season 2 & 3, the first time a Stage is completed, a reward is given in Underwild Coins — which are just like Atlantis / Valhalla Coins, but for Season 4.

Just the same as Season 2 & 3, Normal Mode Stages reward 3 Underwild Coins, and Hard Mode Stages reward 5 Underwild Coins — and there appear to be 10 Stages per Province, so it’ll be the same 80 Coins per Province that Season 2 & 3 had.

Also like Atlantis/ Valhalla Coins, 100 Abyss Coins are required for a free Season 4 Summon.

:mountain: Biomes

Unilike previous seasons where there were intermittant special stages, Season 4 map features a constant “Biome” effect in every stage.

The Biome Effect has two parts;

  1. a passive ability for all enemies in that biome
  2. a status effect/s given every 5 turns to your heroes.

Biome effects are just like normal cleansable Status Effects. So they can be blocked by an Ailment Blocker (e.g. Grazul, Garnet or Vanda) and can be dispensed of by a cleanser (e.g. Rigard or Ariel).

Biome Effects

Biome Provinces Passive Effect
Sand Storm S4 1-9 All Enemies have an Innate Resistance to ailments that affect Accuracy. Heroes Get the follow Stats Effects every 5 turns:
  • All Holy heroes get +50% attack for 4 turns.
  • All Dark heroes get -50% accuracy for 4 turns.
Fungi Infection S4 6-? All Enemies have an Innate Resistance against Poison. Heroes Get the follow Stats Effects every 5 turns:
  • All Nature heroes get +100% power for Special Skill attacks for 4 turns.
  • All Fire heroes get -90% mana generation for 4 turns.
???

I assume the effects are what WE get put on us, right?
They are not also effecting the mob waves?

It’s very interesting and good and keeps the gameplay different.
It’ll be interesting to know/see what colour these mob waves and the boss/es are for this but obviously we will see when it opens, so no chart is needed for it.

They are different from Province 6
Biome: "“Fungi Infection”
Province: S4 6-11 (I suspect it will be go until prov 11 based on the background color )
Passive:

  • All enemies have innate resistance against Poison
    Effect:
  • All Nature heroes get additional +100% Power for special skills attacks for 4 turns.
  • All Fire heroes get -50% mana generation for 4 turns

In Province 5, Stage 10 there is a three-boss final stage: Morel, Lepiota, and Russula.

We have not seen “Morel” as a playable beta hero yet, but her matching artwork and name to the other two which are currently playable makes me think it very well could be. Or it could be a red herring, as Ymir and Sartur never became playable from S3 and I somewhat expected they would be.

The special skill on the boss Morel is listed as “Deathly Glaive”:

  • Deals 140% to all enemies
  • All enemies get -18% defense for 4 turns. This effect can’t be dispelled.

We usually see a reduction in hit % and stat % for final bosses, so I’d guess if this becomes a playable character, those would be higher.

“Ability” skill is “first cast adds 30% to Special Skill power”
I can’t tell her mana speed exactly, but it seems Fast or Average. It’s not very fast like Russula.

Do you know if Season 4 unlocks at province 15 of S3 or the requirement for S4 is different?

Could you say something about difficulty of S4? Are stages a little more difficult than comparable stages of S3 (similarly to S2 - S3 difference)?

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of S3 heroes. Using Ursena/Muggy as super weak evidence-they showed up late to the party.

There is no information about this, but I think this is highly likely.

The gameplay is a bit different.
All levels are “special” levels.
The mob HPs are similar or sometimes a bit less, but

  • All mobs and bosses have innate resistance
(against accurancy decrease in provicies 1-5)
(agains poision damage in provicies 6-11)
  • All heroes with the strong color against the most popular mob color receive some debuff in every 5 turn for 4 turns:
( -50% accurancy for dark heroes in provicies 1-5)
( -90% mana generation for fire heroes in provicies 6-11)
  • The heros with the most popular mob color receive some buff in every 5 turn for 4 turns:
( +50% attack for holy heroes in provicies 1-5)
( +100 special skill attack for nature heroes in provicies 6-11)
  • Each normal or special skill attack of every mob and boss has some (unspecified) chance to cast an underwild gem on the board, which does 50 damage per turn on one randomly selected hero.

So as you the strong colors are not as effective against the mobs as possible the fights can last longer.
And you also need to take some attention on underwild gems as those 50 damage/turn for 1 hero can add up if there are more gems.

So overall I think it is a bit harder than Season 3.

-90%!?!

That’s insane. As is -50% attack.

That’s just going to make all of S4 a complete slog.

They showed up in beta. And they haven’t. And s3 didn’t come on the heels of S2, like S4 has. It’s done.

They could maybe show up somewhere else, like the League of Villains did?

Yes, these are big status ailments.
Especially the mana generation decrease.
If you do not use antidotes or cleanser heroes, then you will be lucky if you manage to charge your red heroes once through completing the level even if they are fast.
I tried “auto play” mode with a team with three Season 4 five star heroes (including a red one) + May and June HoTM (one of them is also red) and all heroes had high emblems (15-19), and “auto play” was not always able to complete levels in S4 normal mode even in province 6 where this mana generation debuff starts.

That sounds challenging. Do you think they’ve overdone it?

Maybe a non-red healer can solve the problem as my team was lack of healer
As auto play do not try to match the opponent’s underwild gems so there can be more which attacks you every turn.
Yesterday I have noticed 4 of these gems spawn in the first wave at a level…

I see -90% mana generation in Beta not -50%.

HAH! That is literaly my idea from Caravan raidings, that heroes get boost based on the province the caravan will travel

edit / Caravans travel trough different regions. Depending on region type, heroes from that element deal increased attack and defense … example : icy region = ice heroes stat increase (( so caravans also have some additional rules, that each caravan wouldnt necesarrily consist of same heroes.

Hi guys. I was wondering. Will harversters work through S4?

Yes, they will work on Season 4 map stages.

great!!! Thanks for the answer. With this new calendar, there’s literally no free spot for those harvesters. It’ll be cool to use them during that weekend!
