Don’t get too attached

Details from Beta, especially brand-new Beta content, don’t tend to be very reliable for actual release.

It’s incredibly common that features are changed during Beta testing, or sometimes even after testing but before release. That is, after all, the purpose of Beta testing.

So I wouldn’t get too attached to any of this — it’s not unheard of for entire portions of features to be removed or reworked, or for radical changes to functionality to be made.

The launch date for Season 3 has not been announced yet

Season 3 Provinces

Overview

The in-game story dialogues indicate that — as expected — there are 9 Realms in Season 3.

The map for Season 3 is set up much like Season 2, with the Provinces circling around a large open area.

There are 32 Provinces shown in the current view, and they appear to encompass 8 Realms — so very likely the 9th Realm (Asgard) will be shown later, much like the final Provinces of Season 2 rose from the water over the course of the release.

This initial Beta includes the first 3 Provinces. We don’t know yet whether additional Provinces may be part of the initial release of Season 3, but it seems likely that they may be released 3 Provinces at a time, just like Season 2, rather than an entire Realm at a time.

As such, my expectation is that Season 3 Provinces will likely be released over the course of a year — but that’s just my own speculation, so please don’t presume it’s accurate.

Normal and Hard Modes

Much like Season 2, there are Normal and Hard Modes for each Stage, and the Normal Mode must be completed to unlock the Hard Mode.

UNLIKE SEASON 2, you must clear all previous Hard Mode Stages before a particular Hard Mode Stage will unlock. So it’s not possible to jump around between Hard Mode Stages, like it is in Season 2 — they must be completed in order.

WE Costs

The WE Costs for Season 3 appear comparable to Season 2.

S3:1-1N is 6 WE, and S3:1-1H is 10 WE — exactly the same as Season 2.

Valhalla Coins

Also like Season 2, the first time a Stage is completed, a reward is given in Valhalla Coins — which are just like Atlantis Coins, but for Season 3.

Just the same as Season 2, Normal Mode Stages reward 3 Valhalla Coins, and Hard Mode Stages reward 5 Valhalla Coins — and there appear to be 10 Stages per Province, so it’ll be the same 80 Coins per Province that Season 2 has.

Also like Atlantis Coins, 100 Valhalla Coins are required for a free Valhalla Summon.

Province List

NOTE: There are 10 Stages in Province 1, just like there are in each of the Season 2 Provinces. I expect this will be the same for each Season 3 Province, but I will update this if I see otherwise.

Season 3 Gameplay

Realm Bonuses

Much like the Season 3 Heroes, some Season 3 enemies have a Realm Bonus.

Additional information from @DaveCozy:

Runic Rocks

In addition to the normal tile play, Season 3 Stages feature special Runic Rocks on the board.

These special tiles work a bit like some of the Seasonal Event tiles, adding special effects, and limiting tile movement.

Runic Rocks cannot be moved, so matches must be made using them by moving a regular tile into place, setting off a Diamond in that color, or using a Dragon to destroy an adjacent Runic Rock.

Runic Rock Color Effect
Red All enemies receive burn damage (as a DoT status effect)
Green All allies recover HP (as a HoT status effect)
Blue All enemies get reduced defense
Yellow All allies generate mana faster
Purple All enemies receive poison damage (as a DoT status effect)

Vindication…

Everyone said I was crazy and/or stupid for working through S2 finishing Normal & Hard mode concurrently before proceeding to next stage.

Not to spoil your vindication, but you may be misreading the post.

In Season 2, you need to complete a Stage on Normal before you can complete that Stage on Hard.

In Season 3, you also need to complete the Hard Stages prior to that Stage before you can complete it on Hard.

So you can still complete all of Normal without touching Hard at all, if desired.

They don’t have to be completed concurrently — though that’s still an option.

Hmmm…32 provinces … at three per month that will take the better part of a year, assuming they release three per month.

Wonder if they will add a “hidden” 9th realm on the map to take it up to an even 36, like they did with the last three Atlantis provinces and make it a full year to roll out?

That was my speculation in the top post:

There was a tip-off before the Atlantis final provinces were released in the player status screen where the hard mode count was xx/270 instead of xx/240.

Or in the case of S3, I guess it will be xx/320 or XX/(larger number like 360)

Unfortunately the player status screen doesn’t have anything for Season 3 so far.

But given that we know there are Asgard Heroes, there being an Asgard Realm seems like a total certainty.

Plus the map is gratuitously spacious in the center, just like Season 2 was.

Lol. Oops, scrolled past it without reading that part…So we can safely say a 9th realm will happen but cannot yet confirm how many provinces it will hold.

But I’m gonna bet 4 provinces for an even 36 — 12 months of 3/month is just too dang tidy not to do it that way!

The Runic Rocks sound fun and interesting - I always enjoyed the aspect special tiles added to seasonal events. Based on the name, number, and description it seems like the Runic Rocks are NOT these

Image from the New Year 2020 Sneak Peek Discussion thread, but pasted in here for ease of reference. In that thread they are called “Icons.” So…is there any clue as to what function Icons may serve in the game?

Perhaps they represent the realms and there are only 6 of them shown in the teaser?

I honestly still have no idea what those icons are for.

They’re neither the Runic Rocks not the Realm Bonus icons.

It’s very possible that they were an earlier draft of something, and got replaced. If so, my guess is they may have been an early draft of the Runic Rocks.

Thanks, as always, for all of the effort to put this great information together @zephyr1! Here’s hoping for a better plot.

It would have been even cooler if they made a 2-3 minute promo trailer like they did (do?) for WoW expansions. Maybe they’re expensive but they are probably also very effective at bringing in new players and getting the existing base pumped up.

Rather than being discarded, I wouldn’t mind them being element icons on S3 heroes’ cards.
