Sorry Rhonus, I somehow missed your reply.
Ascending heroes to their last tier makes no sense if you then don’t finish them. So, yes, finish Gato, Poppy, etc. before, Caedmon starting on new ones.
Mother North is definitely worth finishing, but you might want to delay that perhaps. Other greens in your roster might help you more in a short/mid term: Berden (good 3* sniper), Buddy (defense/attack down on three enemies), Caedmon (good 4* debuffer).

I dont know if you dont encounter him but he is a beast as tank even compared to 5* heros.
You started leveling way to many heros of the same color.
For leveling do only level heros with heros of the same colors.
Level 2 heros of the same color at a time.
Feed 3* heros with 1* heros and others with 2* heros.
Stick with the heros you level at least until you have maxed them and their special skill.
Somtime you can make an exception if an overpowered hero ( Ferrant, Treevil for example ) comes your way.
Heros to level:
Ferrant! , Hawkmoon, Baldur, Boldtusk Garnet,
Belith, Buddy, Mother N. , Caedmon, Hänsel,
Gunnar, Kiril, Chicken Jr. , Grimm, Sonja, Alasie,
Griffin, Chao,
Tyrum+costume, Stonecleave because he is almost finished ( sigh ), Aqueela, Rigard, Renfeld+costume (bring him to 3/1 and then max the costume), Ingolf,
I dont know if you spend money.
If you do get vip, pov, and if you want to spend more hold out for the real super deals that are mostly cheap deals that give 200+ of value.

You want to know which Fire Hero to ascend- meaning, a4* yes, or? 
My choice would be Ferant - he is wildly good. Though I would give more love to your 3*s first, to build a few good teams with those.
I think I would wait with using emblems (and the recources that takes) on heroes, until you are at a point where you have built a good collection of levelled 4* s and 3* s. That might just be me though - we all play the game in different ways
Overall a ton of great advice here. It’s sometimes frustrating but keeping up with the grind WILL pay off. Most non-whales with good rosters have been playing for a very long time. This game requires patience or payments.
Mats to ascend one fire hero 
If that means a 5* hero then I’d probably go with Garnet. If it’s a 4* hero then Ferant
Also, I would turn Team 1 into my training team. So chose a hero from each colour you want to work on and put them in team one. Those heroes will be at the top every time you check your roster so you’ll always remember who you’re working on. And try not to move onto another hero in that colour until you have finished the one you were working on.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice.
I started out working on all the fast 3* heroes paying special attention to the list you gave me. After a month of work I was only able to fully ascent 4 of the 3*, the others are hung up because their special skills only made to 5/8. I checked the forum and it was discussed and closed in 2018 or 19. I contacted customer support and was told I have to get duplicate heroes to raise their skill level. So, I dropped the 3* and moved to 4* then I got a few more fast 3* heroes and I decided to work on them. I’m happy Treevil, Poppy, Jaganir are fully ascended with talents and there are 10 or 11 at 3/50 with special skills at 3-8. I’ve gotten 2 duplicates, I used 1 but it only added 1 point. I guess I have to get 3 more duplicates.

You don’t specifically need a duplicate, any feeders will do, just check the percentage chance that the special will improve.

I asked CS if I was supposed to keep feeding them and they said no. I have used as many as 8 and the percentage went up but not the special skills didn’t increase. How many do I need?

I see that all aspects have been covered via many comments, that I don’t need to say almost nothing…but repeat some of the similar points.
You can gradually level all the 5* heroes till 2/60 as they don’t require the non-farmable ascensions mats, like you have done to Garnet. These fellows have their limited use at that level. When their higher mats get ready, then you can take a call to level up further.
4* heroes are priority, can be levelled faster and will get you to enjoy playing across the whole game, of course, knowing how to use them is the key, which many videos showcase / help.
3* heroes are the easiest to level up and super useful in tournaments and events, to get those ascension mats & limit breakers.

as for fully ascended heroes and levelled heroes without their specials max, its better to feed them same colors and 10 at a time
i also started with 5 stars and that was wrong, I realized that when I was fighting fully ascended and emblemed 3 stars in raid and I lose even i have 5 stars which arent ascended…if I can see your roster right now I might give you some advice who to ascend next
i am level 57 now with 15 fully ascended 5 stars, 32 fully ascended 4 stars and 25 fully ascended 3 stars…im still struggling finding epic ascension mats…
Ah, I think it´s, how is it now, 10% pr 1* and 20% pr 2* hero. (of the same element as the hero, whos Special Skill you want to upgrade, is)
So if your Special Skill is lacking in points, you feed them enough heroes to make the chance for it to upgrade 100% to be safe - either by, as an example:
feed 10 1* heroes
or 5 2* heroes
or mix it up a bit.
Did that make sense?
Biggest lesson here is patience. Buying a bunch of pulls early doesn’t work. You end up with a bunch of heros that you can’t level, and probably end up having to buy more and more support for them. Level up your city. Get AM before committing to leveling up a 5star hero. There’s no rush.

Off colour 1* heroes (Not of the same colour as the hero you are leveling) will give +5 chance to increase special Skill
On Colour 1* hero (of the same colour as the hero you are leveling) will give +10% chance to increase special
Off colour 2* hero will give +10% chance to increase special skill.
On colour 2* hero will give +20% chace to increase special skill.
You can mix and match but generally 10 2* heroes will give a 100% chance to increase special skill…Or 8 2* heroes of a different colour (+80% chance) and 1 2* of the same colour (+20% chance)… Or 6 off colour 2* heroes (+60%) and 2 On colour 2* heroes (+40%)… Or 5 on colour 2* heroes(100%)… or 10 on colour 1* heroes… I think you get the picture. Many ways to mix and match and very quick if you have a TC19 (But a tad expensive)

I’ve been working on my roster and it’s coming along well. Belith and Hawkmoon and a couple other were delayed due to the 5 costumes I received. Anyway, here’s my latest roster. Any suggestions on an attack team? I got Dawa+costume and Valen yesterday. I know Dawa isn’t popular, is Dawa+costume worth keeping?
