Or: Where can I get this Hero From?
Past HotM are available from a number of locations depending on their age.

As Aegir has been released for >24 months, September 2020 is the final appearance as a Featured Atlantis Portal Hero.
After that, he can ONLY be summoned in the Tavern of Legends Portal.
He can also be “Trained” using the Hero Academy Level 10.

Atlantis Portal
Old HotM’s are featured in the Atlantis Portal a total of two times. Once in the month proceeding their Anniversary Month of initial Release (11 months after release) and again on the next Anniversary Month (23 months after release).

More Info regarding past & future Atlantis Featured Heroes here: Atlantis Calendar/Schedule/Date & Featured Returning HotM

Tavern of Legends
HotM’s which are >12 months of age are added to the summons pool in the Tavern of Legends Portal.

Hero Academy Level 10 Retraining
HotM’s which are >12 months of age are also added as a possible outcome of Hero Academy Level 10 Retraining.

Or: How many summons are needed to get an old HotM?
Below Maths is current as of September 2020.
Subject to change as additional heroes are added to the Portal.

It’s important to remember that the Tavern of Legends Portal has the lowest odds for a specific hero of ANY portal… No amount of summoning will guarantee a Featured Hero.

You have a 0.25% chance of summoning a specific Featured Past HotM from the Tavern of Legends Portal (0.0125% for a specific Non-Featured).

On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 2.47% chance of summoning a particular Featured Past HotM (0.12% chance for a specific Non-Featured & 12.27% chance for ANY Past HotM).

But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.

Some useful insights:

(Each 30x Summons costs 8,000 gems or ~$79.99 USD).

# of Summons ~ USD Cost
pre-tax
Odds for Specific Featured Past HotM Odds for Non-Featured Past HotM
10 $26.00 2.47% 0.13%
30 $74.99 7.23% 0.03%
100 $250.98 22.14% 1.24%
500 $1,251.88 71.39% 6.06%
1,500 $3,749.63 97.66% 17.10%
5,000 $12,500.75 99.9996% 46.48%
10,000 $24,998.50 99.9999999986% 71.35%

Putting that in Perspective

If 100 people were to complete 100x summons, spending ~$250 USD:

  • 27 WON’T get ANY Past HotM
  • 78 WON’T get a specific Featured Past HotM
  • 99 WON’T get a specific Non-Featured Past HotM

If 100 people were to conduct 1500x summons, spending ~$3,750 USD:

  • 1 WON’T get ANY Past HotM
  • 23 WON’T get a specific Featured Past HotM
  • 83 WON’T geta a specific Non-Featured Past HotM

If 1 Million players each completed 10,000 summons, spending ~$25,000 USD:

  • 1 WON’T get ANY Past HotM
  • 1 WON’T get a specific Featured Past HotM
  • 286,500 WON’T geta a specific Non-Featured Past HotM

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these two threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

Since Kingston, Mits and even Tarlak would have been useful, of course my Eeyore luck gives me Aegir from my Atlantis coins.

Was hoping for some discussion of Aegir in the current meta, other than using him at tank. Heimdall+5 is doing a fine job keeping me in low diamond, so when Aegir joins the ranks he will need to fill a different roll.

Not really interested in advice on how to use my scopes, just hoping for some conversation about using this hero so I can make up my own mind.

Oh Aegir, one of my first 5 stars back when he was HotM… Had sentiment for him, even though I ended up prioritizing many other blues over him for bringing into final ascension. Even had a period of keeping him as my tank with paladin emblems, which he did quite well even for diamond.

There are unfortunately couple reasons why I don’t think Aegir is worth building anymore:

  • on defense, he really can only be a tank; problem with him as tank is that he invites a green stack and there are multiple green direct counters to him… Zeline, Evelyn, even Caedmon (esp. with costume bonuses) make him pointless, and these are all fast heroes. That’s not enough? You have Buddy, Hatter, now Frigg who can even play his special skill against him.
  • on offense, he faces competition with direct healers who are plenty for a blue stack - Ariel, Raffaele, even Kiril and his costume version. And as a supportive hero next to a healer I’m afraid he’s too situational to fit all the scenarios - yes he can help sometimes, but better reserve the spot for a hero who can win all the time when able to charge. Outside of heavy stacks (mono or 4-1) his usefulness is greatly diminished.
  • he has a lot of competitors for emblems, and frankly, if you don’t plan to use him as a tank, he always fall behind other choices… the class fits him perfectly for a tank, so if your roster is limited and you don’t intend to play in diamond, that’s a positive.
  • I know few people in my alliance used to take him for titans for the survivability which is useful for high level titans, but his low attack stat disqualifies him in my eyes, unless of course you don’t have better options… may be good for players playing in an alliance exceeding their abilities, but it’s still only temporary use until they get better.

So to sum up, I do really love the uniqueness of Aegir, but a niche skill like that has no place in this game in my opinion. There might be people who might be happy with him as a tank, and I can understand it, but there’s 10 other tanks who do that job much better. I can’t recall last time I used Aegir to be honest, he doesn’t make it to my war teams, the quests, not many tournaments that suit him especially when he’s not emblemmed… he’s out for good for me, and I can’t even think of what could be done to help him that would turn him to OP (like making the spirit link undispellable and things like that)

Thanks @Suicide_Bunny that’s exactly the thoughtful analysis I was hoping for.

Anchor grades him at B+ for titans so I was hoping for some magic there, but yeh only 615 atk without emblems and all my paladin emblems go to Heimdall at the moment.

Excellent analysis, and I agree.

On Raid offense, I usually choose Kiril or 1 (or both) Sonyas as my supporting heroes, Valeria if I face a lot of healers. Aegir only comes out if I face a lot of straight-up damage dealers, but in the current meta there are many more heroes who cats buffs or status ailments…

Even on Titans, my alliance faces 8* or 9* ones, strong but not overwhelming. Lepus / Isarnia / Kiril / Nordri / Wu is my go to, with potions to keep Nordri and Wu alive until they can fire.

Aegir is still my tank, still the best option, as I haven’t pulled and maxed any other 5*s who can act in that role. My defense barely keeps me in Diamond most days, so that’s enough  But he’s definitely not as versatile as many other heroes are.

Dam, you are all making me very unsure now! Was so happy when I got him wanting to ascend him next. But now I’m not sure who to give the scopes too?! Options are Raffaelle (who already does a great job at 3.70, fenrir who I really love somehow, Thorne , Isarnia, Richard. Was totally convinced to ascend Aegir first, now not so much. What would you advice?

I generally use Aegir in my blue stack attack team and vs Red Titans. He replaces Wilbur for the damage spread, but red titans are the only ones I use him on. And because of his damage/heal feature, I generally don’t include another healer on titans. He does those two jobs well.

I don’t worry about his low attack stat as I pair him with Miki, Frida, Misandra and Alasie. Those five crush red titans.

Unfortunately I have none of those :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have a meh lineup for red titans. Vela, Finley, Kiril, Grimm. I’ve recently finished Jott and have tried to get his timing right for maximum effect. He replaced Triton but I’m not sure he’s an improvement. Axes and turtle banners help keep me alive.

You do not need Grimm if you have Finley.

Jott is incredible improvement. Ever since I got him, I get around 250,000 on red titans (14*) in my first 3 hits (C.Magni, Frida, Vela, Jott, Miki). Just need some minor thinking before using (you don’t want to cast his special when there are 2 blue tiles on the map).

I have Aegir at 3/70 and he will very unlikely see 4/80, unless I have no other blues. However, currently I have Thorne, Alice & Isarnia that will come first.

The only time he gets used is during class emblem quest fights.

If he had an attack buff or attack down debuff, I could see his use, but now, not so much.

One of Aegirs biggest problems, imo, is that its too easy abusing him as a tile dump. Throwing tiles into him on purpose to charge your special skills can be done without any punishment. If you throw tiles into Kuchen, his def down affecting your whole team will make his teammates hurt more. Same goes for Black Knights attack buff, to name two other tanks who’s special skills do no damage. Aegirs special on the other hand (def buff and spirit link) increases his teammate survivability but does nothing for their damage output.

It’s far too easy, even without bringing any green heroes, to bring a dispeller, a def down hero and one or maybe two sniper. Throw tiles into Aegir until your specials are charged, dispell the spirit link, target your def down on the highest priority target and kill it with your one, two sniper. Rinse and repeat, because Aegir doesn’t punish you for abusing him.

He’s certainly not the worst tank in the world and can get you to low diamond paired with vanilla 5* heroes, but he’s not exactly difficult to defeat either.

I actually want enemy aegir tanks to use their special - and then steal it all with Hatter!

My Aegir really enjoys coming out for 5* Buff Booster tourneys

I always use him with wu kong. Better results than the best healer can do in the game. But of course you need tons of tiles.

I have used him early when he was leveled after I got him when he was released as HOTM as I dont have enough roster depth in 2018. If only Aegir can just do what Wilbur can, he would be a prized hero. Regrettably, mine will forever be stuck at 3/70. There are far far far better ice heroes where those scopes can be invested (Athena, Frida, Master Lepus, Ariel, Vela, Snow White and Miki - all my maxed 5* blues) and IMHO, only Finley, Cobalt, Lord Loki and perhaps Skadi and tanking Krampus are the only ones left for me to wisely invest scopes to.
