Help! Teams, Ascensions, What now?

Hi Guys!

So, I want to caveat this post by saying that I am still relatively young to the game, but I probably made some silly decisions early on to pull hard in certain portals. I was however, greeted with some luck in this regard, so it’s not all bad! I have now, however, benched my spending and plan to keep it that way. Anyway(!), I am getting to the point where I almost have enough mats to level my first 5* rainbow team, and I’m super excited!! But I just don’t know what to do.

For background / information, i’m listing my materials, emblems, and roster info here:

Ascension Materials
  • [4*] 5x Damascus Blade
  • [4*] 6x Tome of Tactics
  • [4*] 6x Farsight Telescope
  • [4*] 5x Mysterious Tonic
  • [4*] 6x Mystic Rings
  • [4*] 2x Poison Darts ( :sob: )
  • [4*] 5x Royal Tabard
  • [3*] 7x Compass
  • [3*] 6x Fine Gloves
  • [3*] 8x Warm Cape
  • [3*] 10x Sturdy Shield
  • [3*] 12x Hidden Blade
  • [3*] 6x Orb of Magic
  • [3*] 6x Trap Tools
Emblems
  • Barbarian = 681
  • Cleric = 760
  • Druid = 583
  • Fighter = 581
  • Monk = 707
  • Paladin = 396 (:sob:)
  • Ranger = 647
  • Rogue = 562
  • Sorcerer = 497
  • Wizard = 573
  • Resets = 3
Roster

This list is a combination of my non-S1’s (that I think are viable), and the ones I am thinking about ascending are in bold, but i’m too nervous to commit!
5 Stars
:purple_square: Hulda [3/70]; Hannah [3/70]; c. Marie Therese [3/70]; Khonshu [1/1]
:red_square: Zenobia [3/70]; c. Guardian Kong [3/70]; Kravekrush [2/60]
:yellow_square: Prof. Lidenbrock [3/70]; c. White Rabbit [3/70]; Guardian Owl [1/50]
:green_square: Phileas Fogg [3/70]; c. Lady of the Lake [3/70]; Lughaidh [1/1]
:blue_square: Morel [3/70]; c. Finley [3/70]; Passepartout [2/60]; Alice [2/60]; Sobek [1/1]

4 Stars
:purple_square: Sergei [3/60]; Merlin [3/60]; Rigard (no c.) [2/50]
:red_square: Mack [3/60]; Ferant [3/60]; Junaid [2/50]
:yellow_square: Griffin [4/70]; Anastasia [3/60]; Wang Yuanji [3/60]
:green_square: Anton [3/60]; Tettukh [3/60]; Peters [2/50]
:blue_square: Zila Lei [3/60]; Azmia [2/14]

I’m very fortunate to be in a great alliance where we are killing 10-11* titans daily, and do pretty well in wars, so I know that the materials will keep coming (slowly but surely).

In raids, I tend to hover somewhere around 1900-2100 cups, and i’m pretty happy at that level. My defence team tends to be: Morel | Phileas Fogg | Hulda | Prof. Lidenbrock | Zenobia, and I tend to run 3-2 on offence, pretty successfully.

As a concept, I really like the idea of running a full team of the costumed Challenge Heroes, even though I know that they’ll come at a cost compared to the S4 heroes… But I also don’t enjoy the lack of synergy with c. Rabbit’s defence down and Finley’s Defence down!

Anyway, this post got longer than expected! If you need any more information please let me know! Otherwise, looking forward to your answers!

You have griffin on 4.70 in this list.
Is this the only max hero you own? (personally I doubt it when you describe were you raid, but it can never hurt to ask)

No matter what, I would still start with your 4* heroes. Pretty much all you highlighted are great and absolute worth ascension.
Zila Lai is the only one I don’t use that much, so I would probably ascend her later than sooner.
And depending on what you already have as healers I would still do rigard even without costume.

For the 5* heroes I can’t say too much.
Marie without costume is bad and Hulda much better. But I don’t know if she gets much better with costume, so probably wait for someone with experience on her.
The rest I would probably choose the same heroes you did. :+1:

And what about your 3* heroes?
Do you have enough for tournaments and good placement in events. A good event team is cheap to lvl and top 10k is doable without much effort if the team is good and top 1k with only a little effort with a great team. This gives another source of pulls and ascension mats.

It actually is my only maxed hero :zipper_mouth_face: beyond a few of my 3*'s - see below:

And what about your 3* heroes?

Still a couple to be levelled, but this is my list:
:purple_square: Treevil [3/50] x2; Aqeela [1/6]
:red_square: Phoenicus [3/50]; Li [3/50] ; Bauchan [1/1]
:yellow_square: Poppy [3/50]; Pixie [3/50];
:green_square: Jing [3/50]; Gnomer [3/50]; Dolgoon [1/1]
:blue_square: Hela [3/50]; Nordri [3/50]

Marie without costume is bad and Hulda much better. But I don’t know if she gets much better with costume, so probably wait for someone with experience on her

This was unfortunately my thought as well. I would have much rather gotten c. Jabberwock! but the way I look at it, is that the undispellable Defence Up, and health boosting is a nice touch, even if her Zombie revival isn’t the best. Plus, if nothing else, she can give the family bonus to Finley

This already looks like a nice pool for tournaments. But I would probably still level the rest for some depth before going on with 5* heroes.

For events there are some key heroes, but no real team.
I would try to build 2 teams.
Green:
Dölgöön (second charge used), brienne (if available), 3 green hitters (preferable hit 3 or hit all)
Blue:
Gunnar c (if available), nordri, 3 hitters.

I for example use Gunnar c, 2x nordri, 2x chicken Jr. With similar teams at least top 10k is doable without much trouble which guarantees you some mats and at least a coin. Top 1k is also doable if you like events.

Than definitely start maxing the 4* heroes you marked. You can get all those max with the same amount of feeders you would need for a single rainbow 5* team.
And for example Ferrant is a great tank, good enough to be used as war tank by top 100 alliances (at least pre nerf) although I think we will still use him as main tank again once rush is over.

So you don’t need 5* heroes to be competitive, 4* are cheaper, much faster leveled, cheaper emblemed and often perform as good or better than 5* heroes.

Ignore all the 5ers for now (they take forever to level)! You have a bunch of good options there for later. I agree with your highlights, but in purple I would highlight all except Marie.

Work on the 3 and 4 star heroes first!

4 stars again, I agree with most of your highlighted choices. Max all of them before you start on the 5ers. Rigard should be up there, too, maybe Zila Lei not so much. I would guess you have another whole bunch of useful 4 stars lying around that go completely ignored. Especially 4 star healers will serve you well for years to come!
You can use 4 stars in tourneys and events, but also on titans, raids and in war, basically you can use them everywhere. Use 5 stars later to improve your 4 stars. But you can make it to 2400 cups in raids without 5ers. You can build teams for war that can take out 5 star teams. And you can do all that at much lower cost if you use 4 star heroes.

3 stars: All of them and more! They are quick and easy to level, cost few resources and you can compete in tournaments and events with them for better rewards.

Thanks both, already that’s given me some good insights, and I guess I was probably getting caught up in the hype. Never hurts to collect more of the 4* mats anyway!

I look forward to sharing a progress update soon once I change my priorities!

PS. You’re almost certainly correct about ignoring many other viable 4*'s since, I always keep at least one of every hero i’ve pulled…

Just to give you some impression what’s possible with the right 3* and 4*.

Tavern of legend last level done with only 3* heroes.
In the same thread you will find a lot of inspirational teams with 3* and 4*.

From me finishing S4 normal with mostly S1 4* heroes (that was pre nerf, now it would be even easier, just mono yellow with 1 Manacontroll hero)

And I can recommend pretty much everything from @Saros
I think there you will find pretty much everything the game offers done with 4* heroes.

So in the end, I can just say 4* heroes should be the backbone of most rosters. (there may be some exceptions, if you invest a lot you will probably get enough 5* heroes, mats, feeders to make most things with 5* early on, but even those people need good 3* and 4* teams for events and tournaments).
In my mind you can never have to many 4* heroes…

So many extraordinary heroes you have, congratulations :clinking_glasses:

I would focus a bit more on my 3 and 4 stars for now (and those all look great too!), but that´s coming from a player that rarely spends anything on the game, so my progress might be a tad slower than yours

But, you already have gotten great advice from the posters before me, and I will only speak parrot and repeat what they said, so :parrot:

I understand the eagerness to ascend and build your first 5* rainbow team. But I would advice to level all the heroes you are using a bit more “together”, also so matchmaking in tournaments won´t run you over like a bulldozer. (We are matched based on the most powerful heroes we own, so if you spend a lot of resources on a few heroes instead of spreading the love, it will lead to being overwhelmed in tournaments relatively fast. In my experience, anyway  )

Best of luck ahead and enjoy the game  :four_leaf_clover:

Out of curiosity, what is pretty hard pulling per portal for you?

I’m also agreeing with those who’ve recommended filling out the 3 and 4* roster before devoting the intense amount of time and materials for a 5*.
