Avoiding Overspending & Heartache
Or: How many Summons are needed to get this Hero?
It’s important to remember that Challenge Event Heroes have EXTREMELY low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a Challenge Event Hero.
On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 56% chance of summoning Guardian Bat.
But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.
Some useful insights:
80 times out of 100, you’ll get Guardian Bat by pull 20
95 times out of 100, you’ll get Guardian Bat by pull 37
99 times out of 100, you’ll get Guardian Bat by pull 56
Putting that in Perspective
20 out of every 100 people won’t get Guardian Bat by the 20th pull
If 1 Million players each summoned 20 times, 200,000 of those players wouldn’t get Guardian Bat
5 out of every 100 people won’t get Guardian Bat by the 37th pull
If 1 Million players each summoned 37 times, 50,000 of those players wouldn’t get Guardian Bat
More Insights & Reading
I highly recommend reading these two threads for more information and context on summoning odds:
If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.
Special thanks to @Garanwyn for assistance on summoning odds and proofreading for this section.
Drew the bat on my third pull. Was hoping for Jackal or Falcon, but I’ll probably level the bat when I finish Cyprian, since three-stars are cheap to level. Posting here so I can keep tabs on the discussion and see how folks are feeling about this “hero”. (BTW, can we decide if it’s a boy or a girl? @zephyr1 is using “his” in the original post, but @Guvnor is using “her” in the poll.)
I will probably use Guardian Bat in three star tournaments, possibly in defense or as part of a purple stack. I don’t know that this is a good hero for rare tier events, since the special is predicated on other heroes being down already, which isn’t really ideal unless you are just having trouble completing. With Onatel getting my wizard emblems, I doubt I will ever use emblems on this hero. If I did, it would probably be on the attack path, since the bat’s special seems to be made for turning around a lost fight.
I have been using they / them / their for Guardian Bat and Guardian Chameleon. Seems the best option to me, unless they themselves state they prefer a different pronoun.
Only if you really want to dark-stack multiple of them for 3* raids, and bank on the risky additional damage per dead ally.
Bat is a good hit-3 hero for Teltoc (ironically lol) but you only need 1 for that.
IMO if you real want a 2nd hit-3 hero for your dark stacks in raid tournaments, it’s better to go with Chochin – hits 3 for the same damage, whereas Bat hits the nearby enemies for minor damage instead. Not to mention that the mana delay is a better 2nd effect for raids.
The added damage per dead ally is nice but risky to rely on too. I personally would only level 1 myself.
Just an empirical question, as it has no value practically, if you raid with empty slots, do they count as dead allies for Guardian Bat, making it have extra attack from the onset?
I managed to pull three of them with a 10 pull. Was hoping for one of the four or five stars, but it wasn’t to be today. Interested to hear thoughts about whether to keep one or both of the duplicates.
Don’t quote me on this but in theory you should keep all, up to 5 when possible. When you think about it, a team of 5 Guardian Bats is the only team that will get exponentially stronger as allies die.
I only have two fully levelled dark three stars. I have a couple of others on the list to level up, but they are not high priority. I think I may level one and keep the others around for a while, but not potentially waste resources on them. See how it goes and then level the others for wars if it turns out the bat is going to be a staple of my team. It may be only three stars but as a relatively new player my four and five stars are in short supply.
