šŸ§Ŗ Early Information on Updated Guardians of Teltoc Challenge Event [Part of The Beta Beat V24]

NOTE: Please do not, under any circumstances, share IMAGES OR VIDEOS from Beta in this or any public Forum thread. Violations can cause players to lose their Beta accounts, or threads to be closed down.

This thread is to provide early insights and discussion on the new Guardians of Teltoc Challenge Event overhaul.

Donā€™t get too attached

Details from Beta, especially brand-new Beta content, donā€™t tend to be very reliable for actual release.

Itā€™s incredibly common that features are changed during Beta testing, or sometimes even after testing but before release. That is, after all, the purpose of Beta testing.

So I wouldnā€™t get too attached to any of this ā€” itā€™s not unheard of for entire portions of features to be removed or reworked, or for radical changes to functionality to be made.

The launch date for the new version of Guardians of Teltoc has not been announced yet

New Challenge Coins

Challenge Coins can be received from Challenge Event Rewards, as well as from new ā€œrare enemiesā€ called a Suspicious Chest that appears at random in Challenge Event Stages.

10 Challenge Coins can be used for a free Summon from the Challenge Event Portal.

Challenge Coins appear to be copper colored (more orange than EHT and ETT), and are pentagon shaped. They have each of the 5 Challenge Event Family symbols on them, so they appear to be intended for use across Challenge Events, not specific to one Event.

The premise of Suspicious Chests appears to be similar to the concept of Orichalcum Seadragons appearing at random during Atlantis Rises and dropping Atlantis Coins, which can then be used for Summons. One difference is that in initial testing, it appears that Suspicious Chests only drop a single Challenge Coin ā€” but you only need 10 of them for a Summon, not 100.

In-Game Tooltip Text for Challenge Coins

Used for a free summon at the Event Summon. You need 10 coins for one summon.

This item can be received as loot from a Rare Challenge Event enemy.

More Details on the Suspicious Chests

They appear at random in a mob/monster slot. So far Iā€™ve only personally seen a couple, so this information may need to be updated, but there were 3 useful things to note:

  1. The Suspicious Chests are the same element/color that has the Elemental Barrier that reflects all direct damage and status effects from the same element.

  2. The Suspicious Chest is ā€œInvulnerableā€ and ā€œShielded,ā€ which means that itā€™s ā€œVulnerable to damage only during the turn before it attacks.ā€ This is an intrinsic attribute, not a Status Effect, so it canā€™t be dispelled, and shouldnā€™t be removable, even by Guardian Chameleon. The chest shows the word ā€œINVULNERABLEā€ below it at all times, and the pop-up information when you tap and hold on it shows ā€œShielded,ā€ along with the explanation above.

  3. Defeating the Suspicious Chest adds 5000 bonus points to the Stage Score.

New Stages, Bosses, and WE Costs

There are now 15 Stages for each tier of the Challenge Event (Rare, Epic, and Legendary), and they have new Bosses and WE costs, many of which are effectively reduced vs. the current Challenge Events.

Iā€™ve noted all of the WE costs below.

And yes ā€” there really are Stages costing 1 WE in Rare and 2 WE in Epic now, which may make for interesting opportunities when filling Monster Chests or farming XP during Challenge Events.

New heroes both look to be amazing vs titans. Not sure how much Iā€™ll commit to pulling for them but certainly see how they would be really useful.

Iā€™m not a fan of a skill that removes ā€˜undispellableā€™ status effects. If they are undispellable, then they should be undispellable. I think itā€™s a very bad move to introduce a skill like this.

If I read Guardian Gazelle right, thereā€™s a bit of a gamble there, if the caster dies, going to give damage to all your heroes too. Better hope you win during those 4 turn (and looking at the skills) you probably will.

These new 3 stars are starting to look pretty powerful, too.

How would the new Guardian Gazelleā€™s undispellable effect being effected by the casting of another Guardian Gazelleā€™s special? Would the last GG to cast lose their dancer status and overwrite the other GGā€™s special?

To make sure I understand, youā€™re asking what happens when there are two of Guardian Gazelle on the same team, and the second one fires while the first one is still active?

Yeah exactlyā€¦since the GG talent says it is an undispellable effect itselfā€¦I mean like @TooOldForThis mentioned, once you start dispelling undispellable effects where does it end?

Presumably the second Gazelle should remove everything from everyone, and then the second Gazelle otherwise functions as normal, but Iā€™ll see if I or someone else can get a hold of a second Gazelle to test it.

They only give us one copy of each new Hero to test in Beta, so the only way to get a second one is from Summoning.

And, umm, we all know how that goes. :slot_machine: :game_die:

The whole stuff is now becoming confusing, if undispellablle is now removable, it invariably means there is no more undispellable status effect in the game and that makes several worthy heroes vulnerable. I will also agree that this doesnā€™t look like a good move, more so that several of these new heroes are benefiting from power creep.
More confusing also is Grazel removes undispellable and then set up undispellable, why canā€™t we just leave undispellable alone :grinning:.

Yeah, to dispel the undispellable is a bit confusing. Can they just reword that? Something like ā€œCLEARS any status from the targetā€ ?

It says ā€œRemoves.ā€

Is the element change considered a status effect with its turn duration? If so, then that means it can be dispelled?

Also, because they change elements; what does that mean for the attacker that has their heroes changed? For charging mana with tiles? For tile damage?

Sorry to bombard with questions but this is pretty interesting.

Because of the element change, he actually doesnā€™t look too reliable for titans, despite the awesome attack boost and crit boost  For e.g. against a green titan, you would have to bring a green team on purpose, then fire Chameleon to make the titan blue for 3 turns. Itā€™s a pretty odd way to play.

EDIT: also the fact that he can actually remove your own defense down ailments from the titan, if his skill isnā€™t timed properly. Yeah he removes undispellable stuff so thatā€™s the upside, but not a fan of having to manage skills like that against titans to ensure my status ailments stay up.

I guess for raiding this can be more useful. You suddenly have less to worry about when it comes to fighting red heroes (which become green) with a green stack for e.g. as they get hit neutral by green tiles. Conversely though, poor timing of the skill makes blue heroes red, which suddenly makes green tiles weak against them. Looks like a hero that requires strategy to use properly.

Personally I thought that she had too many downsides before, and was heavily critical of how rewarding she was for her risk. She looks a lot better now than before.

The immunity to new status effects is both good and bad here, as she wipes all buffs too (including element links, healing over times, etc). But this isnā€™t such a big downside anymore, mainly because they increased her attack buff from 66% 100%. Itā€™s a good move considering she doesnā€™t stack with anything else. I can now see her as a good hyper-buffer for titans.

Removing the mana decrease to allies was a good idea too, that was a massive downside and in my mind made me not really want her.

50% damage reduction is a better choice of words, Iā€™m assuming that also means any DoT that typically bypasses defense buffs.

Still, if she dies while her buff is active she heavily punishes her team, although I feel now that the downside makes sense in keeping her balanced. The 100% damage is whatever, but the 100% mana reduction is severe. And now specially that she lost her defense buff, Iā€™m thinking this hero is definitely not meant for defense, as sheā€™s too easy to bait into casting, then target and KO.

The only real case I can see for her in defense is if sheā€™s on a team with Queen of Hearts, as the card minion with taunt would protect Gazelle better. Itā€™s really only Queen of Hearts though, because Gazelle would remove taunt from Black Knight and not let him cast it while her buff is active.

EDIT: if sheā€™s deemed too strong, imo a good way to balance her would be to make her effect undispellable, but get removed if she dies (i.e. ā€œthis effect cannot be dispelled, but gets removed if the caster diesā€). Not that she is too strong (itā€™s honestly hard to tell without being able to play with her), just an idea if the general consensus on her is that sheā€™s too strongā€¦

So as this game updates and things change, I canā€™t help but theory craft as I get new heroes to play with.

In the last challenge event, KoA, I pulled Guinevere, a long time want for me as 90% of my defense team strategy has been ā€œKashhrek is my tank, who fits behind him?ā€ And quite frankly my yellow heroes are just lacking overall.

As Iā€™ve been learning the game and researching strong defense team strategies, Iā€™ve been wondering how I can try the ā€œFlank Guin with 2 purplesā€ strategy. I think the best fits are Guardian Panther and Ursena (although I wish she were average rather than slow). I have Ursena, and knowing Teltoc is coming up soon, I figured Guardian Panther is at least a possibility for me to acquire soon.

Just yesterday, I was wondering since Avalon got a family buff, if Small Giant would give Teltoc a family buff. And when I hopped on the forum like an hour ago, low and behold, someone posted info from beta about them getting a healing/defense buff! (curious if theyā€™ll upgrade the Atlantis buff as healing/defense is a strictly better boost than just defense).

Obviously since teams are for 5 heroes, I canā€™t have all three families getting the 2 hero boost (Guin from Avalon, Ursena from Atlantis, and Panther from Teltoc). And Iā€™m not sure which heroes (in a perfect world where we get to choose which heroes we pull) would fit best on the wings for this Panther-Guin-Ursena setup. My first though was Tarlak and Misandra (Getting another family buff from Lagoon) as their abilities seem to stack decently, but I wanted to poll the community on this.

As a long time DnD player/rpg player in general, I love theory crafting stuff like this (as you can see from all of my posts so far). So please any ideas you guys have, hit me with!

If it matters (since I do want to work within some realm of reality) my current defense team is:

Lianna 4.40 - Ariel 3.70 - Kashh 4.70+13 - Gravemaker 3.70 - Sartana 4.30

Iā€™m curious if any of the family buffs are really worth it to try and build around too as 5% doesnā€™t seem like a defining increase.

I think it remains to be seen, as they are releasing new event heroā€™s as they add the new family bonus.

The only completed event family we have is Avalon, and compelling arguments could be made for taking advantage of that if you have Guin/BK, Arthur and LOTL for example. However itā€™s a waiting game at the moment since we donā€™t know the synergies that will be available.

Merged, thanks! :heart_decoration:

Ursena is average speed:
image

Keep in mind that the family bonus only applies to members of that family :stuck_out_tongue: So in your current defense, only Ariel + Ursena would receive the 5% defense bonus for e.g.

Personally, I donā€™t think that family bonuses in general should be a defining building point of a defense team; they are nice if you can make the synergy between heroes work though, but theyā€™re not as big to make a real difference.

Edit: when I say ā€œmake the synergy between heroes workā€ I mean it in the sense of color synergy (i.e. how well they protect each other from stray tiles of strong and weak colors) and how their abilities and skills mesh together.

As an example, someone in Avalon thread posted an idea for an Avalon defense team, which was something like this:
Morgan | B. Knight | Guinevere | Lake | Arthur

And immediately the problems were obvious; despite getting the maximum family bonus (for all heroes are unique) the defense team is way too passive, with only two prime damage dealers. Itā€™s too easy to set up skills against them, too easy to prepare and fight back.

So while the increases in the family bonuses are large when all 5 unique heroes are present, in application itā€™s hard to justify a case where itā€™s useful to prioritize it when it sacrifices your damage, your defense team, etc.

G. Owl was already pretty inconsolable at having seen your table showing how much Snow Whiteā€™s maximum damage output surpassed him at both slow and easier to setup in the Grimforest thread.

I fear after seeing this as well heā€™ll start refusing to self heal and just go down with the rest of the teamā€¦

Oh dang, just seen Guardian Chameleonā€™s colour change is now limited to 3 turns. Whilst I never felt that I needed to get him I did think his effect may just be fun enough to play around with however I now get the feeling that if I were to get him Iā€™d get the same feeling I get when I use my Khiona which is, ā€œ3 turns feels at least one turn too small for this effect,ā€ and just be a little disappointed.

As I already have Panther that change has pushed me from ā€œmight have a try for it and that monthā€™s HOTM at this gate,ā€ to ā€œIā€™ll just grab the bat and hope Atlantis featured heroes is good and provided the HOTM is really good and if not pass.ā€

Do they give you infinite gems in Beta? If so, it must be both fun and infuriating to keep summoning.

They donā€™t give us infinite gems, they give us the gems from our live account, plus 10k.

That makes it possible to test some things within reason, but itā€™s obviously not enough to overcome typical game limitations on speeding buildings/TCs or Summoning.

When we need to test expensive functionality like skipping every building from SH20 to SH23 and building/researching all of Alchemy Lab, they change the skip costs for that specific Beta cycle.

They also sometimes reduce the Food/Iron refill costs to 1 gem, depending on what weā€™re testing. Thatā€™s useful for Costumes, for instance, so you can power level a few of them without waiting on resources or running out of gems, especially for players who didnā€™t have many in their accounts initially.

Other than that, the only option is to repeatedly reimport your progress and start over. Sometimes people do that to keep Summoning until they can get the combo of heroes they want to testā€¦and then you still have to deal with power leveling. And if you reimport again after that, you lose all of your progress again.

So itā€™s not a trivial exercise to acquire, max, and test a second copy of a hero, unless a player personally had a ton of gems on their real account.
