Or: How many summons are needed to get a Challenge Event Hero?

Special thanks to @Garanwyn for assistance on summoning odds and proofreading for this section.

It’s important to remember that Challenge Event Heroes have EXTREMELY low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a Challenge Event Hero.

On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 56% chance of summoning Shrubbear.

But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.

Some useful insights:

  • 80 times out of 100, you’ll get Shrubbear by pull 20
  • 95 times out of 100, you’ll get Shrubbear by pull 37
  • 99 times out of 100, you’ll get Shrubbear by pull 56

Putting that in Perspective

  • 20 out of every 100 people won’t get Shrubbear by the 20th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 20 times, 200,000 of those players wouldn’t get Shrubbear

  • 5 out of every 100 people won’t get Shrubbear by the 37th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 37 times, 50,000 of those players wouldn’t get Shrubbear

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these two threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

This thread is a great place to discuss anything and everything related to Shrubbear.

Once those discussions have yielded notable insights, I encourage others to make reference guides in Player Guides that synopsize specific questions and answers about Shrubbear.

Topics that are most appropriate for that are ones that players are likely to be searching for or wondering about in the future.

Creating a guide is a good way to make that information findable in the future without having to read through a ton of posts. You can make use of the Forum quote feature to avoid having to rewrite explanations that have already been well written.

Here’s an example of such a post: [GUIDE] How does the Queen of Hearts’ Taunt work with AoE specials, or specials affecting nearby enemies in addition to the target?

Looks like a green Black Knight. He’d be a nice 3* tourney tank. I won’t do 10 pulls yearning for him, but he’s more likely to fall into my hands than Jabberwocky, QoH, White Rabbit, Hatter, or a 2nd Alice, and i wont feed him to anyone, like i did with that 4* blue diamond dou…uh, dude

What’s the point of +defense against special skills If you have taunt active??

Surviving hits from Special Skills.

Taunt means every Special Skill is going to target Shrubbear, so an increased defense against them helps him to survive the hits.

Makes sense,
I assumed it would play like BN’s special.

I will spend only the event coins I’ll collect, probably no more than 3 pulls. Only for Shrubbear. I don’t plan to do any gems summon this month (because I’m not interested in one of the most useless hotm in the game).

I plan to some pulls for Alice, Jabberwocky, QoH, White Rabbit and I’m afraid I will get Neith in stead :unamused:

I think this hero will be of great value for 3¨* tourny’s at tank. His health and defensive stats are top tier for 3* heroes and his skill makes him one of the best 3* tanks available. The Slow speed reduces his uses but he is probably the best 3* option in 3* rush trounies or tournies not featuring fire heroes.

Hopefully I can snatch him up at minimal investment using just event tokens.

The completionist in me may force my hand for a 10 pull if he doesn’t pop out. Like Scarecrow I am not at all impressed with Neith and think that every pull this month is wasted and better saved for a month with a better HOTM.

I seriously think this dude is the dude. I wants. I definitely don’t need or want the other event heroes, nor do I want Neith. So… we’ll see where I am at in a couple of days.

Get shrubbed by Shrubby.

He should come out of the shrubbery or of the portal, doesn’t matter.

Rare taunt… YES

I bet the summon portal will only give me shrubbish this month.

Bof, people can live without him.

His main purpose is to tank on limited red 3* tournament, which is a really specific and niche occurance.

May be good for attack on very fast rule too, but again, can live without that and use others instead (like Gill-Ra or even Kailani)

As a trader of fine shrubbery of course I’ll have to stock a few.

This is a green version of red shirt.

I am SOOOOOO keen for the bear!! He looks adorable!!!

Echoing the above statements about him being a 3* Black Knight. I’d love to grab him and toss him in a flank position on a 3* tournament defence.

I probably won’t use him in any offence capacity as he doesn’t do toooo much for me there…

9 of 10 raids, slow mana 3* heros died before using their skill.

If the little bear is still alive for using the special skill he will have low hp for resist or help the rest of the team.

I think he is a tank who needs another tank or a healer or two.

My only summon and he showed Up.
I wanted the tops event heroes anyways i Will level him Up someday

My first ten pulls and i already got him. Quite excited as he’s my only taunter. My question is could he be a viable taunter for raid offense of the higher tiers? He is monk so if you max his talent up for health it goes all the way up to 1140 which is astoundingly high for a 3 star. Jam a mana troop and he could fire a little faster? Idk maybe it might work.

Looks like one of the improvements of all challenge events, aside from throwing in additional 5*, still continuing to ignore 4*, is to make sure there is a 3* for every challenge event. 3* aren’t sexy, but I like variety. Fair enough, I can almost get by these 3* are going to be primarily of buffed up, more detailed, mob enemies with an unique name and a special skill/mana attached.

Goblin (mob enemy variety) → Bauchan
Tritonic Warrior (?) → Vodnik

But somewhere along the way, someone got lazy…

You mean, aside from the slightly more menacing look that just barely allow you to tell the difference, the collective dev juices can’t be bothered to come up with an unique name for the 3* bear, when there is already a mob enemy called Shrubbear, and guess what, in the same Wonderland event and mostly a few waves before?

Can I start a petition to rename Shrubbear? Or is this going to fall on deaf’s ears too? Just like there is and still is a 1* and a 3* troop both named Reanimated Fighters.

I did 2 10s and a single pull…

Alice was my first hero on the first pull set, then got a bunch of crap and that wonderland bearshrub.
2nd pull set I got 3 cheshire cats and 2 bonus Neiths.
3rd pull was a single…I got the rabbit.

My luck for the year is done LOL

How’s the cat, is he worth leveling at all?
The bear, what about him being slow and a 3*?
