Question: Elena plus Wilbur and Counterattack

Assume I am attacking with Elena in my centre. Wilbur is active. Elena has fired thus counterattack is active on her and her flanks. Assume the team I am attacking has a sniper who hits one of my wings who does not have counterattack active.

  1. Assume the opponent has cleansed my Wilburs debuff. Does the shared damage to my team result in my middle 3 heroes counterattacking my opponents sniper?
  2. Assume Wilburs debuff is active on my opponent. If the above is true, does the reflected damage act as a mini-AOE on my opponents whole team?
  3. What if my opponents sniper is Caed/Sonya? Is the debuff applied last?

  1. Yes. I’m thinking you mean the spirit link here has been dispelled by you rather than the defense debuff being removed (cleansed) by the other team because the spirit link stays even after they cleanse the defense debuff. Since spirit link is up on your team, the damage reflected back would only be calculated from the portion Elena + flanks received (which was already reduced because of the def up).

  2. Yes, in this instance the attacking team would share the damage taken by the counterattack on Elena + flanks.

  3. Yes, their actions take place in the order written on the card, so damage first (which would be countered and shared potentially if the respective status effects are active) and then the buffs are dispelled. Someone like Kage would dispel first, and damage after.

Just wanted to add the link to some common E&P Terms in case that helps!

Thank you @aer3.
I am wondering if its better to stack Elena with Wilbur to aid survival or better not to maximise damage. They would be in my 6th War team with Boldtusk.

In general counterattackers and wilbur aren’t recommended together if you’re using the counterattack as a primary means of damage dealing, but I think if the goal is more for survivability wilbur can definitely increase elena’s lifespan.

But I will say elena’s AoE damage (and obviously tile damage) are pretty hefty and AoE hitters + Wilbur are great, so that could help to counter some of the downsides of the nerfed counterattack

Yup she is such a glass cannon, and as part of my weakest war team I think I need her to survive more than anything. Very grateful for your advice @aer3

Hi everyone,

I was running tests with Wilbur and Elena both active. It seems that when enemy attacks, only him gets hit back by the counterattack and damage is not shared (which goes against what Wilbur’s card says unless I’m mistaken)

That does seem off. I keep looking to see if I missed something but they have shared damage and are taking damage.

Counterattack always works like that. It never interacts with other buffs. If the attacker has some def+ it ignores it, the same with spirit link it gets ignored.
In general wilbur and Elena are a really bad idea, only the damage you do to the 3 heroes with riposte will counter attack and only with the damage they receive.
If the enemy is a sniper and does 1k damage on one of the three instead of 1k damage you will counter attack only with 200 because it’s divided through all 5 heroes.

What I mean is that the 2 dinosaurs next to Gobbler don’t receive damage. While if I read Wilbur’s card properly, it says all enemies share received damage. Isn’t counterattack a damage ? Let me know what you guys think

What I said. Doesn’t work with wilbur, or any other buff.

Although the damage produced by a counter attack is damage after all, it never gets affected by any kind of changed status (attack buff, defense buff, shared link, etc). So the damage you sent to an opponent with shared link by counterattack is actually not shared.

I think that counterattack not being affected by any status is intentional to prevent an scenario like this

Cyprian attacks Boril with counterattack by 100 damage. Boril received 100 damage, so he must counterattack by 125, so he sends 125 damage to Cyprian. If that 125 damage (which was produced by a counterattack) is affected by counterattack again, then Cyprian counterattacks by 156 (125% more to 125). Then Boril counterattacks by 195, then Cyprian by 245 and so on until one dies.

I think that’s why damage received by a counter attack is not affected by anything, including shared link.

Fair enough @Moncho

And here why it is never a good idea to pair counter attack with spirit link.

Received damage around 1600hp. Mok hits all 3 and they counter.

And now he receives only 170Hp, that’s only a 1/10 of the original.
Don’t get confused, the 48 and 52 are from the spirit link when he hits the green monsters beside him, only the 41, 66 and 67 Hp are damage from counter attack.

And another with Chao. He does 240Hp damage, but only receives 100hp counter damage from the one he hit for 81Hp. With 5 heroes it would have been even less.
