Last time we discussed Karil. Unfortunatelly not enough people remembers this hero’s glory days to make an interesting topic. I can understand this, it was way back in 2018-2020.
So this time we are jumping into hero, that should be more interesting - Rigard
Note: we are discussing basic, not costumed Rigard (unless the question states otherwise)
Note #2 we are discussing current state of Rigard, regardless outdated [no family etc.] picture
Questions:
Did you use Rigard? Do you still use him?
Your memories with this hero.
In context of Rigard’s main purpose, how he stand compared to newer heroes?
Is Rigard still worth using even without single costume? When and by who?
In which situation would you use original form of Rigard while having his costumes?
Do you think Rigard needs more costumes (besides Toon)?
He was my only purple healer for a long time. Sabina was one of the 4*s that eluded me for quite a while. With his cleanse he was my number one counter for Gravemaker, basically until GM stopped being a serious threat
In context of Rigard’s main purpose, how he stand compared to newer heroes?
His stats lack without costumes, obviously, but his heal and cleanse are still top notch for 4*
Is Rigard still worth using even without single costume? When and by who?
Probably in 4* formats or lower cup levels he should be useful even without costume, as mentioned, for the cleanse and nice-sized heal
In which situation would you use original form of Rigard while having his costumes?
For me personally, I can’t think of any. Maybe using his base in a 4* def team for the cleric talent
Do you think Rigard needs more costumes (besides Toon)?
I don’t think any hero needs any more costumes at this point. If there had to be another, and I had to design it, I would put the sword in his artwork to work and make him a priority dispel, hit-3. Maybe give him a unique debuff which prevents the target from getting counterattack
I got him late - he was the very last of the vanilla 4* I got, and I got him maybe 16 months after first starting
By that time I had Sabina and Aeron as other Purple healers
I did appreciate him as an upgrade to Aeron!
Today, he sees less use compared to Kitty, but I do appreciate his straight up heal. And, there’s less pressure to charge him faster - Kitty needs to fire before the opponent, Rigard comes after
Yes and yes. I also got Rigard late, and I had bad luck with costumes for him (couldn’t pull first one and when I finally got it they released 2nd one month later, still don’t have 2nd one). But if I am playing with purple 4* he is my first choice, unless enemies have big amount of buffs.
I got base Rigard kinda late, but he was huge upgrade for me since arrival. Raids, events, whenever I needed purple, Rigard was the way.
Back then he was considered one of the best 4* healers. While today there are better heroes, they are usually behind paywall and/or rare events. Rigard is still the king of easy-to-get healers.
Like I said, Rigard is still the king of easy-to-get healers. If you are beginner, you should try to get him. If you are F2P - also.
Base Rigard can be useful in situations, where dispells appears often (like in War Equalizer) and enemies have special skills that works heavily against boosted health.
I don’t think so, the only thing I can think about if I am forced to create new costume is detroying fiends before healing.
Rigard is still very good hero if you don’t have access to OP new heroes. And even then, he is still sitting on “usable” heroes bench. Definitelly a hero anybody should be happy to pull for the very first time.
I still use Rigard as my main dark healer (with CB). I tend to use two healers on my teams and he teams up with C.Marie Therese well. He heals them up and she adds the overhealing. The cleanse is also invaluable for e.g. the Alliance Quest where you acquire burn every five turns. I also have three maxed, one at LB1 and one at LB2. All three get use in some wars and events.
I gotta get around to maxing his second costume one of these days.
Did you use Rigard? Do you still use him?
Only the first costume. Back then he didn’t suit my playstyle as my mine was aggressive attack. Cleansing is just not as important back then. Years ago when the meta wasn’t even half this crazy, mechanics like cleanse/dispel honestly wasn’t even needed. Kiril is in fact a ‘better’ cleanser half the time than rigard
Your memories with this hero.
I didn’t use this hero much until I got his costume
In context of Rigard’s main purpose, how he stand compared to newer heroes?
Newer heroes have more going on as they need to keep up with the meta. Rigard has solidified himself as the staple hero
Is Rigard still worth using even without single costume? When and by who?
He’s the most standard cleric healer out there, nothing much to be said but an old reliable classic hero. But he can’t keep up with the current meta.
In which situation would you use original form of Rigard while having his costumes?
Equalizer, everywhere else the costume is superior
Do you think Rigard needs more costumes (besides Toon)?
No, not really
General opinion about Rigard.
His design is fascinating. With his skill set, if he was holy I wouldn’t even bat an eye at his direction. But the fact that he is dark raises a lot of questions lore wise. Why is he dark while having the most non dark skills ever. Plus with that puppy dog face under the helm, intriguing. He is the only character in s1 I would love to see a proper backstory from
For me, the most logical explanation is that he is the general of private army of duke Tiburtus.
Tiburtus himself might be related to Cyprian and Sabina, as they are both undead, and Tiburtus have the title “Mournful Duke”.
Tiburtus might used (or hired someone who used) dark magic to resurrect undead pair, and is related to dark magic overall. Rigard, while being “Noble Cavalier” is still tied to duke Tiburtus (maybe he can’t leave?), but he looks like a person who are against dark magic and is trying to help people instead of hurting them.
I did, and I do. He may still be my best dark healer. I say “may”, because Anoushka intrigues me. Haven’t started working on her yet, but I probably will soon. He’s one of a precious few dupes I ever leveled, so that probably tells you something.
Your memories with this hero.
Like basically every mainstay hero, it seems like it took me forever to get Rigard (and Boldtusk and Kiril). By contrast, Sabina was one of my very first four-stars, so I defaulted to her for a long time, even after getting Rigard, because cleanse wasn’t as important then. But eventually, cleanse became a necessary skill, and I was flush with cleric emblems. The rest is history.
In context of Rigard’s main purpose, how he stand compared to newer heroes?
I mean, he still does what he does pretty well, and both healing and cleansing are necessary. What’s not to like?
Is Rigard still worth using even without single costume? When and by who?
The only downside is the outdated stats. Can you really use any four-star without at least one costume anymore?
In which situation would you use original form of Rigard while having his costumes?
I’ve actually been flipping back to it a lot lately, corresponding to my revival of using Ludwig. If you can get the big dog to fire before your heroes die, having OG Rigard out there throwing a big heal and cleanse every few turns makes them kinda hard to kill. Machine gunning C. Rigard makes little sense, as the DoT just overwrites.
Do you think Rigard needs more costumes (besides Toon)?
Why? So they can tweak his heal % and defense stats by a negligible amount? Nearly every costume I’ve seen lately has been 100% lazy garbage thrown out there only to entice people to pull for the stat boost instead of releasing a proper buff. The original intent of costumes was way cool, giving S1 heroes a different kit and a stat boost to keep them relevant. Ever since they expanded them beyond S1s, they’ve been a pile of fresh, steaming cow manure.
General opinion about Rigard.
Rigard is one of a very small group of timeless heroes. I can’t really imagine him becoming completely irrelevant.
In current meta? Not really. But question was meant to be seen in perspetive of players from all “tiers”. For example below Diamond tier 4*s without costumes are still perfectly usable.
I won’t go through all the questions, but Rigard is still my primary purple healer! (I just finished c2 Sabina, I am working on Kitty, and I am thinking of leveling Anoushka, so he might see less use in the future.)
I almost always use base Rigard in PvP, even though I have both costumes. I find the heal over time often too small and too late. Even the boosted health of c2 seems too small for PvP. The direct big heal often works best for me, even though the costumes have great secondary effects.
But I also use the base form in PvP for the chance to reflect mindless attack and other related things. In rush war against an Alfrike tank, I will gamble with mono purple - often Rigard isn’t hit or is hit and he reflects it back. Either way he can cleanse the rest of the team. It doesn’t always work - he sometimes is hit and doesn’t reflect! - but that strategy has worked well for me. My purple mono team is one of my best teams and I like to find a way to use it even against a field of purple war tanks.
My version which is more fantasy. It is shortened and simplified
rigard the remorseless knight
There was once a wandering ruthless warrior feared by everyone. He was known as the remorseless knight, travelling the countryside to terrorise the people and their villages. With his ruthless techniques, he would often kill with no remorse and bring suffering to the others around him. Nothing seemed to affect him and he was known to be impervious to any attacks.
In his journeys, he met a girl living on the streets, she was kind to everyone even though she was looked down upon by everybody. He had never experienced these feelings of kindness before. He wondered why she would care for him.
She said ‘you’re still human after all. Everyone deserves a little bit of kindness’
Although he couldn’t understand it at first, slowly it etched into his heart.
Until one day she was brutally attacked by a mob and she ended up dying because of him
With his rage, he killed every single one of them. And for once he tried to save the girl, but he couldn’t. Because his hands were full of blood, they were meant to kill.
He was angry and hurt, wanting answers to his confused soul. But his heart was full of hatred as well, he seeked out the chamber belonging to Justice and challenged her to a duel. He also wanted to kill Justice because she was blind. She couldn’t save the girl.
But because of his now doubting heart, he couldn’t focus on the battle. He was finally defeated as the rites of judgement rained on him. He came to the realisation as he laid there, it was not Justice who couldn’t save her, it was him all along.
He accepted his defeat, wanting to be judged by Justice for his sins. But she didn’t want to judge his life now, for he still needed his answers. If he needed those answers he’ll have to find them himself. However his journey of redemption would be filled with trials and tribulations, would he want to do it? He agreed to this task, for the sake of his peace, for the girl he loved.
He spent the next 30 days in Justice’s altar repenting. Weakened and sick, he was on the brink of death as he kept meditating. Justice understood his resilience now.
She said to him after 30 days as she restored him
‘With every heart you’d pluck, you shall heal with your right hand’
‘With every soul you’d torment, you shall cleanse with your left’
‘The sins of your dark past, you shall don this armour as your memento. You shall take it off when the time is right.’
Right before he left her throne room, Justice asked once more
‘Rigard the Nobel cavalier, will you seek the truth?’
He replied before leaving Justice’s altar. ‘No matter what it takes him, he will find those answers’.
He carried on his journey through the lands, healing and treating the sick and needy. As an act of forgiveness, he gave prayers to the graves of the fallen and also the ones who were slain by him. There are countless of warriors fallen by him, and so he shall visit them all.
All for the kind girl, he has changed his life around
I always pictured my rigard to have this theme as he leaves the throne room
there is a 7% chance to kill the target. If the target is killed by this effect, refresh all buffs on the caster. All stage bosses and titans are immune to this effect
the caster doubles all chance based effects on it for 3 turns
the caster and nearby allies get +35% critical chance for 3 turns.
