I have a few emblems on Kiril. I’m about to have Proteus maxed out. Going forward would it be better to split emblems between the two or just focus on one?
if they was mine i would use all on proteus

Proteus, all the way… or to +19 actually, if you have a purple mana troop. In my opinion, the +20 on talent grid isn’t worth the emblem cost.
Kiril is strong and tanky as he is. Proteus benefits greatly from increasing his Defense and Health with emblems. 
EDIT: Take a look… I have him at +18, with all the Defense & Health options selected on the way:
