I haven’t yet gotten to Hero Academy as I took a long hiatus but just thinking ahead! Do you guys retrain your dupe HOTMs or are they worth keeping just for rarity sake?
Right now I’m struggling with:
5 x Chakky
5 x Grimble
5 x Ranvir
5 x Grazul
4 x Margaret
3 x Inari (though not HOTMs)
And they sure take up a lot of roster space lol. I do have some S1 dupes but not many, so I’m guessing I should save these for retraining?
On a second note, are any of the above heroes worth actually ascending a second?
I have 4 Rafaelle, 2 Malicna’s, 2 Bertila’s 2 Frosth’s, 2 Kingston’s As for now I didn’t use any of them to do retrain but if I run out of better S1 options I’d probably use one of Rafaelle’s.
P.S. I envy you that you have Grazul, would gladly take one of them.
Oh wow seems like you have a quite a few too. I don’t have any of those you mentioned apart from a Kingston, I was taking a break when they were all released I would totally trade a Grazul for one of your Rafaelle haha
I am a Vela magnet. 2 as hotm, 1 from Atlantis and 1 from HA10. I fed Vela4 back to HA10, don’t think I’d ever level more than 2 and probably not even the 2nd one
I’d happily level a 2nd Grimble. But I have no other 5* minion blocker/munchers so ymmv
I’m having the impression that HA is mainly for people struggling for “some” good heroes, especially when F2P (like I am), when plenty with materials AND S1 but looking for a “try” on something better from S2 and old HOTMs. You are clearly aiming at something different. It can take forever, or at least months from now on to convert half of those in the list, considering the 5%.
But you’re not alone, a solution is waited since… ever… a lot!)

What is ymmv? Wow you indeed are a Vela magnet! Though she’s actually not a bad hero, I have one and I’m probably going to ascend her next since I don’t have many good blue 5*.
Oh I never thought about it like that, but you’re probably right! With a 5% chance to spit out a non S1 it’s not really that tempting for me and I’m probably looking for another solution haha. Thanks for sharing that thread, I’ll take a read
Here’s to hoping SGG makes a better solution for dupes than HA10, so I’m holding my dupe hotms for that, even though I’m 99% sure HA10 is the best they ever gonna give us.
Oh that’s not too bad, given sometimes it’s nice to have a second/spare and heroes like Devana are great (I maxed out two Seshats and they come in handy). But yes I also hope SG release a solution around this
No, I don’t. Still hoping SG will create at some point a FAIR solution to the problem, where premium heroes are valued higher than classic heroes, which isn’t the case with current HA.
Until then, I fuel my HA with dupe classics. There’s more than enough of them anyways.
I would say 3 is enough (I have 3 GM, 3 Isarina, 3 Elana only 1 maxed ) trying to get them all maxed takes a long time and a lot of Ascension Materials
So, considering you now have 5 Ranvirs and (let’s suppose) you’ve spent some to get them, next step should be spend other gems buying heroes slots to store Ranvirs waiting for a dream to become true? (honest question, just curious)
Yeah some (most) of my dupe hotms I could actually ascend dupe and I’ve planned on making both Noors 3/70 and try out a anti-minion team and to use on Ninja Tower. I planned to ascend a second Devana asap, but got lucky with other yellow 5*s after getting them. Propably both dupe Bertilas and Zulag could go at some point (not to retrain though).
And I would propably ascend more Grimbles and Grazuls from your dupes, if you have spare materials and no other unique heroes waiting for their turn.
If you dont have Tarlak and/or Miki, a second Ranvir might be useful for Mythic Titan. A second Grimble can be used in Alliance wars against minion heavy opponents. For wars a second Grazul has some merit, but the rest is HA10 fodder. Even for HA10 you might not need more than 5 dupes a year.
I would totally trade a Grazul for one of your Rafaelle haha
