I wish the patience for attacks comands.
I’ve gotten a sea of purple tiles on very fast attack. Enemies AOEs just fired like crazy while I was getting no mana. Very fast with a missing element is brutal.
I went with Colen - Lu - Hu - LJ - Kiril as my defense, but it’s 0-0 so far :/. Need attacks!
Day 1: 3-2 attack (including a zero to a smart mana control team that’s going to be a problem to others and a close loss battle 5)
Defense is rosier. 4-2. Decided on Grimm, BT+18, Li Xiu, Little John+18, and Hu Tao. Beatable, but I’m guessing they’ll be a headache the next few days. A ranking there right now. 2248 total with top 25%.
So the interesting element here is that even though I got pounded a bit today, the scoring was in line with the last couple of tournaments.
- 610 (W; start)
- 617 (0; +7 for the win)
- 604 (W; -13 from the previous battle for the loss)
- 611 (W; back to +7)
- 619 (L, 423; +8…but that is keeping in line with the +8 that was given after my third win in the previous two tournaments)
Expected start for battle 6 is 603 (-13 for the loss carries over to the next day).
Tomorrow should then be +5 for a win; -9 for a loss and so on.
I’m going to go out on a limb and after 3 tourney’s of seeing this in action the exact same way that this is how the scoring works for me and probably most others with some variance here for reasons. If tomorrow is plus 5/minus 9, I’ll feel more certain about that than I do now.
Observations:

Yeah, two day 1 losses are going to sink me. Basic math says I need to run the table tomorrow and Wednesday to even think about the top 1%. Assuming that there was no max scoring wall (which is unknown), I could have started tomorrow at a battle worth 639 points; instead I’ll be at 603 and only gaining 5 a win, meaning that my max score at the end of tomorrow will be a 628/629. Brutal.

On the flip side, it’s starting to look like where you start with your best 5 as well as a clean sheet day 1 and 2 may be more important to making the top 1% than any other factor. Tourney 15 I lost 5 times but later in the tourney and finished in something like the top 2000. Tourney 16, I lost only 4 times but had two losses in the first two days and finished in the 5% . Even playing clean the rest of the way, I may be 10% at best. Here’s why:
Assuming I played clean through 9 battles and then lost battle 10, my starting attacker day 3 would be 650. If I play clean all of tomorrow, my starting attacker day 3 is 633/634. Seeing as day 3, based on what we’ve seen, only allows attackers to move up 3.5-4 points a win, I just fall further behind.
It’s not if you lose that matters; it’s when do you lose that matters. We could quibble about how bizarre that is, but it’s starting to become clearer that the game rewards early wins more than later ones, so you may be playing the top teams day 5 and only getting 1.5 to 2 points for it while only losing 4 on a loss.
Still some stuff to try to figure out. If anyone wants to share some data, feel free. There could be outliers here.

If I can figure out why I started as low as 581 I’d like to. I have no idea why I started so low. Is is based on your defense? Anyone know what it’s based on?
EDIT- DAY 2 THEORETICALLY THEN I SHOULD START AT 614? 617?

Day 1 about 12 hrs in. I had serious doubts about my defense…I have plenty of yellow fighters I could have inserted but I had all these emblems and boril at 900+ defense so…

Those of us who have been tracking this believe that your overall starting position is based on your top 5 available heroes for the tournament. In my case, my top 5 are BT, Wilbur, Caed, Little John and Boril all at +18. I am not playing that, but those are my top 5, and their combined TP is 3897.
What are your top five 4* with emblems, and what is the TP of that group together? I am guessing that is less than where I am at, though it might be interesting if you were close to my top 5.
You should start day 2 with a team valued around 616, possibly 617 if the +8 kicks in. If you win the matches tomorrow, you should see a progression of 621, 626, 632, and 638 (roughly…though we’ve also been speculating that there is a potential scoring wall that may hold you back). If you lose tomorrow, you should, if the data holds, drop 9 points from the score of the last attack.
Also, posting your top 5 TP may give some indication of the ratio of TP in the top 5 to starting score. I have some thoughts on that, but I want to see how the rest of the tourney plays out.

Day 1:
5-0 on attacks, against a heavy amount of emblems (39, 52, 74, 74, 76) on the enemy defenses. One that was really close was a +14 Li Xiu tank with unemblemed Hu Tao and Chao flanking her, but I managed the win.
Defense is holding up, 5-2 for Grade A so far, but that could change before the day is done.
My def is: Grimm+18, BT+2, LX+18, Danzaburo, Colen+18
When I click Leaderboard, it says I’m #44 so far. 
Good start! 3074 points, and the current leader is at 3089.

@Wondermoose - here is a ss of my top 5 4s at the start of the tournament… I hope this will help you in your calculations.
Now heres top 5 4* without Sab ina ( idk if dark counts in top5) actually my next 3 highest are dark lol (Proteus Ammonea gaffar ) so Wilbur would be next if no darks apply here
LMK IF YOU ARE ABLE TO come to any type of conclusions. I wont lie, I feel a little bummed starting at 581 but I understand that they want to pair matches more evenly.
EDIT: I LITERALLY HAD JUST RESET EMBLEMS ( WONT SAY HOW MANY), ITS NOT SOMETHING I RECOMMEND, FROM BOLDTUSK! - LETS JUST SAY HED BE #2 BEHIND GRETEL.

Thank you for posting. I want to run some numbers (I have a hunch about this), but this will help. Also, if I am not off, purple is not counted, so your top 5 TP would be the team without Sabina at 3695.

This might be more accurate than with the 4* troops. I’m all about providing proper data
So I think at some point previous Petri mentioned that matchmaking was taking best 5 heroes into account, and that applied to the best 5 eligible according to the rules, so no sabina+20.
Accordingly, my top 5 best would be 3659, without any troops factored in. (FWIW My 3* troops vary from lvl7-10). And my first match was worth 606 points, and 613 subsequent. So like you, +7. Funny stuff, huh?

Ok yea that makes total sense to me . How would I go about factoring my top 5 TP w/o any troops ? This would give us an even more accurate number to test the hypothothothis. What does score sequence D1 mean too lol.
Day 1 score sequence, so the points I got for my 5 matches. I forgot to check what the third was worth, so I just have 0 for the loss.
I don’t know how the troops factor in, but I’m guessing they do.@Wondermoose if you factor in troops my best 5 without purple would be levels 10,10,10, 9, and 9 (though that’s not colour matched with best 5 heroes)

Gotcha thanks for the info on that.
So I adjusted my score to 3875 for proper troops (I forgot about that as well; good catch). This pretty much, I think, shows what is happening here with starting position.
My TP: 3875
TitanXP TP: 3589
Difference: 286 points (or 290 rounded up)
My starting attack score: 610
TitanXP starting attack score: 581
Difference: 29 points (or 1 point per 10 TP in the best 5)
I checked this against my tourney 16 best 5 with troops:
Tourney 17 best 5: 3875
Tourney 16 best 5: 2369
Difference: 1506 points (or 1510 rounded up)
Starting attack score Tourney 17: 610
Starting attack score Tourney 16: 459
Difference: 151
So that’s something to think about. If that’s a static pattern that can be proven, well, there will be a lot to unpack then about this tourney and its structure.
