Arco still works as a tank for this one right? I mean, no heal, but he does give out minions and can turn pesky fiends into meatshield minions. And he does have the stoneskin buff.
I did a quick defense and didn’t think it through, not terrible but not the best. So far 0-1
But surprisingly I went 5-0 today, despite some bad starts and near losses.
Day 1

I was using 2x Purple, 3x Green throughout for my offense
Darkfeather / Shacklebolt / Gelert / Frog Prince / Xandrella
Waited for the Balance update to kick in as I had Dreadstar at 80 and emblemed. But ended up not using her after all
Went with a 3-1-1 attack of Roz - Maat CB - Ferrus - c2Obakan - c2Li Xiu in the first 4 matches against a variety of Green tanks. With only one team below 6000TP, were all tough fights but managed to pull out a win each time.
Of course, 4 wins would lead to a strong defense at the last against a Farrah tank flanked by Ghealach and Ultrox. Went with 3 Yellows (Willow - Jana - Ferrus - c2Obakan - c2Li Xiu) and didn’t get a chance to fire any of them. Would have been a zero if not for Ferrus evading multiple times and his 100% core damage.
Defense is 1-0 so a good start there too, but not expecting much in a 5* tournament.
Somehow managed to get 5 wins today despite only average boards. Got some good cascades and Ma’at and Ferrus kept evading the snipers.
Switched between a Yellow stack (Willow - Jana - c2Li Xiu) vs 2 Ludwig tanks, and a Green one (Cristobal/Roz - CB Ma’at - Ferrus) against Green and Blue tanks.
In the last match was against a Sha Wujing tank flanked by Ghealach and toon Magni. Dreadstar finally made her tournament debut. Ma’at evaded Sha’s hit and c2 Li Xiu’s Superior Jinx removed most of the dodge so Dreadstar’s never miss didn’t affect the result too much. Toon Magni retained the dodge, but he can’t dodge vertical Green tiles
Defense ended Day 1 at 1-1 (B). No attacks so far today.
Wow, today was the absolute worst boards.
I went 1-4 and I am out
In 3 of the ones I lost, I scored a 0, and in the 4th that I lost, I only JUST managed to kill the tank.
Day 3 and into the “Who are these heroes and what do they do?” phase
First up was a Verus tank with Chang’e and Hurricane flanks. Won that with a Green stack + Dreadstar to counter the wing Constance and Sha. Switched to a Yellow stack next to beat an Acidfire tank flanked by Shaal and Starwalker. Neither match was easy and was just rolling with my luck.
Lost in the 3rd against a Prince Siegfried flanked by Satori and Waterpipe. Really missed my Xiaotu here… Went back to Green and at least managed to kill the left 3 defenders.
4th match was against a Guardian Elephant tank. Went with my VF Purples Kage - Khonshu - cVictor. That used to be my go-to combo last year, but with the 2000+ hp heroes, they are showing their age. Elephant fired once as did the flank Boom and Fang. But Ferrus and his core damage barely won it for me.
Last up is the tank I probably fear most in this tournament in Frond. Went back to Green and didn’t stand a chance with Frond firing twice before I got anyone charged. But I got the last laugh by killing it before I lost.
Defense is surprisingly holding at A (5-2). High chance I will buy back in if I lose my 4th tomorrow.
Shockingly, went undefeated today to enter Day 5 with a 17-3 record.
Teams were slightly easier after 2 losses yesterday, but we’re still talking about 900+ point matches. Each and every one of the 5 matches were tough, but was lucky enough that even the worst starting board gave me enough tiles to charge at least one of my heroes before too much damage was done by the defense. Also helped that I faced 3 passive tanks today in Nautica, Arco, and Boom and Fang.
More variety in attacking teams used today. Twice Green stack (Ma’at - Ferrus - Cristobal), twice Purple (Khonshu - c2Obakan - Grimble) against Liu Bei and Arco tanks, and once Yellow (Jana - c2Li Xiu - Willow) vs a c2Obakan tank. Ferrus and c2Li Xiu were the constants, each very useful in their own way. In the toughest match, c2Li Xiu survived with just over 100hp.
Coming into the last tournament day with 3 losses already in the books meant each match could be the last.
Started off against a Timmius tank flanked by Erlang Shen and Phorcys. With Chang’e and Sha in the wings to boot. The type of team I’d avoid in a war if possible Thought about bringing in newly maxed toon Caedmon for the dispel and extra damage Vs Blue, but in the end stuck with the c2Li Xiu - Ma’at - Ferrus - c2Obakan - Cristobal team. Got a Green diamond in the 2nd move and just blew the left side of the defense away. Phorcys fired once but neither he nor Sha did much damage.
That win put my score over 20,000 and took the pressure right off since it was probably enough for top 1%. The next 2 matches went in a similar way, with Green diamond within the first 3 moves. Kept thinking that the next match will be where the luck ran out, but before I knew it, I had ended the day with a 22-3 record despite the last 4 defenses over 6600TP.
Even without adding in the last day defense score (which is A at the moment), that’s a new personal best tournament score. Smashed the previous best of 22,304 to smithereens. Hopefully that will mean some nice loot tomorrow
Hmmm, finished top 1% but got rewards for top 5%.
I’ve seen this happening before in different threads. Weird, probably was between 1% and 5% bracket. Tournament screen shows top 1%, base screen showed to 5% rewards when claiming them.

Ranking: 246 (Top 1%)
Current 33 tournament cycle W-L: 592-160 (78.72%)
Not sure which success surprised me more, the offense or the defense. Luck played a big part of course, but I think no healing makes these 2500+ hp monster heroes a bit more manageable. At least it dents the impact of heroes who damage and heal like Sha, Aramis, and Shaal.
As mentioned yesterday, a new high score in tournaments. Will be hard to break that in the future.
The EHT and ETT were nice, but just normal rewards otherwise. A short break from 5* tournaments next week with a 3* Buff, all colours allowed. Should be a fun one with some new heroes (Fawn, Yona) to try out. See you!
Hi all, been a while, but i thought I’d pop in for a moment to say hi as I had a good week:

D: 9-7 (mostly B all week)
1%, rank was 2197. Arco tanked my defense but i didn’t really use him much on offense because friends were strangely absent. Toons and c2LiXiu carried me all week. Lemonwood is now my new favorite hero to hate on, pretty sure he was responsible for two of those losses. highlight of the loot was 1 ETT, it was that good. i hope everyone else’s loot was better!
