When do you pull for heroes? and maths for rapid hero leveling

Here’s a proposition:

It’s reasonable for a player to defer pulling for shiny heroes until s/he has amassed something like the equivalent of 1827 TC2 feeders to enable a rapid levelling of a non-costume 5* from the beginning of 1/1 and right up to the end of 2LB and to 4/90. Breathe!

I've got a way to go, but for now I can look at preparation as a work in progress.

So, for a non-costume hero:
Going from level 1/1 to 4/80 costs 353584 xp,

then:

and

(353584 + 76730 = 430294) + 82500 = 512794 xp, + any extra xp that may be surplus to maxing each ascension.

TC2 produces non-trainer 1* and 2* (feeder) heroes:

Presuming TC2 will produce an equal proportion of 1* and 2* feeders and an equal proportion of feeders across colours, then:

feeders from TC2 will yield an average of 280.8xp per feeder

((150 * 4) + 180) + ((390 * 4) + 468)) / 10 = 280.8.

So, to take a non-costume legendary hero from the beginning of 1/1:

to 4/80 (with, at least, 353584 xp) will require ~1260 TC2 feeders;

353584/280.8=1259.2022792

to 4/85 (with, at least, 430294 xp) will require ~1533 TC2 feeders;

430294/280.8=1532.38603989

to 4/90 (with, at least, 512794 xp) will require ~1827 TC2 feeders.

512794/280.8=1826.18945869

So that’s the maths. :open_mouth:

Meanwhile, my idea is to store up tokens. coins, and gems until I’ve got at least enough stored feeders to get a 5* completely levelled up.

I’d probably like more. If I make a whole load of pulls at the same time, along with a levelling hero I want to prioritise, I may also get a beta hero (potentially such as a HotM or similar) that I may also want to simultaneously work on. Any beta hero can be fed colour for colour while any pucka shiny could be fed with all others.

That’s a potential plan, but it may all be postponed when I use my keys in the costume chamber. In this case I may also splurge on token, coin and gem pulls as well and go back for a bit more colour for colour feeding, but I like the idea of saving up for a fast levelling. (Maintaining stocks of food and recruits can also enable timely 2* feeder generation from HA4). Waiting until you have necessary ascension items may also help.

How does all this sound? What plans do you follow when pulling for heroes?

If you are not a spender you will run into a food bottleneck with you power level plan.
I am not a spender and this is how I level and pull.
I level 5 at a time
I level on color
I pull using coins from challenge, quest, season at the time I get them.
I only use gems, ten pulls, for special portals such as Solstice that come with bonuses and no S1.
If I have a backlog of good heroes to level I will pull for 5* troops. Only after evaluating my top heroes in each element to make sure that I can use the troop with a top hero regardless of which element I get. (Optimistic attitude doesn’t hurt and it stinks to get ‘lucky’ but not be able to use what you get)

What ever you choose to do have fun! If you’re not having fun you’re not doing it right and you need to find a different approach.

This is great, and I’ve typically done something like this. As variants, I’ve sometimes chosen to drop a colour when I’ve lacked promising levelling projects and I’ve sometimes gone up to 10 (hero or costume) targets at a time. This has been when I’ve wanted to feed low-xp-value feeders to low-rarity/level/food cost targets and to feed high-xp-value feeders to higher-rarity/level/food cost targets.

Right now most of my potential levelling projects would have little potential effect on the potency of heroes at around my top 30 for war.

That can happen, but especially if players aren’t feeding away TC-sourced 1 and 2 *s, it can be easy to store food bundles. I’ve had a food glut since ceasing to use Alchemy Lab and have still been able to make liberal use of TC19 (which I may need to curtail for if I want to increase stocks of recruits).

For fast levelling, the other issue is feeders:

and, despite occasional draws for the sake of paths of adventure, things are progressing:

However, my food supplies are greater than required by my TC feeder supply.

The esteemed @Gimliv pointed out that, with any of those extra recruits, spare food can be used in Hero Academy 3 for the rapid generation of 2* feeders, so, thinking about it, I should have the potential for a fast levelling any time now (recruit supplies permitting).

Food and recruits can also be stored in TC 20 queues, and, if it’s just the food that’s needed, extra recruits can be transferred to troop generation queues in hero academy, and all this may require could be some of those iron bundles that nobody uses. Alchemy Lab levels also provide abundant food storage opportunities

I also heard forum genius @TribL mention another source of food via the mercing of chains of low-level titans. I’m yet t try this but the idea is to join an alliance that you think might be dormant and (as may be the case in 22/23 instances) the titan is live and it is of suitable low-level, kill it quick. If it’s not so easy to kill, other mercs (filling their titan chests) may like to hear of an opportunity to finish it off. Players can jump from alliance to alliance and, so the idea goes, haul in a harvest at a reasonable pace.

You are providing some great information here.

I envy your food glut. I was never a proponent of the AL so that was never a contributing factor. All of my resources go into battle items, emblems, limit breaks, leveling troops and … used to be HA but have stopped that for now.
You might very well might accumulate sufficient resources through PoA rewards and hoarding to power level one 5* through 4/90/25.
Where you are after you accomplish that bares looking at. In my case all the food boxes and most of the silver were gone, all the tc20s were reduced from 50 days to ~10. I have a tc 11 wavering between 500 and 600 days packed to the rim with hero/food that I can’t use bc … wait for it … my ham is day to day.
The bottom line here is that, for_me_, power leveling 1 hero set me back from smooth leveling progression with other waiting to be leveled. It’s great having a cutting edge hero producing within a week of its debut. It stinks having the next group of 5 take 2-3x longer than they would have if I hadn’t done it.
Again, I am free to play, if you’re investing in the game a very different metric is in play.

What ever you choose to do! Do it for you. Have fun. If you’re not having fun … you’re doing it wrong.
