New, what to do with unwanted 4*

Fairly new, playing for free, totally liking this game. So far I’ve accumulated a few random 4* an 5* heroes that I’m in the process of levelling up. For some reason, I keep pulling Reds. I have Lemminkainen, who I’ve run up high because he was my first 4*. I have Tahir, who I am slowly running up (as is common, at my game level it’s tough finding materials to ascend. Stupid gloves!) I have two Boldtusks, one is being levelled, and a C-Wilbur. Plus my trusty Nashgar.

I like these Reds, but I also have C-Scarlett, regular Scarlett, and Kelile sitting here. I’m sure both of these are better in the long run than Lemmi, but am I really going to spend my meager materials on them, especially when I still have to level the others? Yet I don’t feel right feeding 4* away. What would you do?

Sorry for my beginner problems!

Are you that short on space? How many spaces do you have and what level are you at now?

I would keep them if you are not summoning for more. Eventually you will need a good variety of heroes and CB Scarlett is a good start for titans as she has high damage.
You will eventually get all the materials needed and much more by time.
These heroes might get 2nd costume soon (kelile already has) so if you happen to land both they will be good heroes.

keep 1 of each unique heroes but eat away the dupes unless they are really stellar 4*.

u will need 4* to accompany u along the journey and quests

Thanks. I was just wondering if at level 4* having 2 healers, 4 hitters, and whatever Wilbur is would be considered too much. I think I’ll feed regular Scarlett to Tahir.

I’m at level 30, 65 spaces. I try to keep equal level rainbow teams (is that smart?) and have three 5* (Two yellow, of course). I have twelve 4*, and seven of them are red!

I’m trying to keep 4-5 teams’ worth of players for wars and such, I am currently keeping 31 players on my roster and I use the rest of the spaces to build up lower-level players to feed. I’m heavy on what I feel are quality Reds and Yellows. Green I have C-Belith as high as possible, Little John – whose slowness kills me, and am working on C-Mnessues. Blue I have Boril and Gunnar almost to the max, and then bottom feeders at level 3. Purple I have Tibertus who is okay, then several decent level 3 guys like C-Bjorn.

And my favorite is the little beekeeper, Kvasir.

You’ll want those extra heroes, even unleveled for events that limit hero use to one time such as Tavern of Legends and Alliance Wars.

There’s also the upcoming Challenge of Elements where you need 25 heroes of each element to at least attempt to complete them. So feeding away your heroes this early is a bit premature. Buying roster space is cheap at your level.

If it’s only the reds you trying to deal with:

  • Keep all first copies of any unique heroes, like the Kalevala hero you mentioned and cWilbur.
  • If you have any duplicate heroes, especially the Classic/Vanilla/S1 heroes, dumping these first wouldn’t necessarily hurt you, as the game will almost ALWAYS give you them again somewhere else. TC13, TC20, Hero Academy whenever your base gets to that point to build that, and even the various event portals have a higher chance of giving you that hero again than they do the “unique” heroes.
** It’s very lucky to get them again in Costume Chamber, since you’ll get both the base and costume(s)!

If after some of this clean-up you’re still limited in space, accumulate some gems and consider visiting the Shop. expanding the roster space is 100% worth those gems. I’m still not sure when it’ll start, but once your player XP/Leveling get as high as 25 or 30, the game will very conservative about giving new roster space. It’ll go from +5 to +2 or +1 or even nothing.

It gets weird when the roster space isn’t a number divisible by 5. I’m finally at 230 roster space after dealing with numbers like 214 and 229, with no way of adding exactly one spot for feeders and trainers.

We all play the game in different ways, but I didn’t regret spending my few Diamonds on more space for my heroes early on. As a F2P, we have to make the best of what we have, and I find it nice to have plenty of space for feeders too.

But I’m also the kind of player who finds it dull to level more than one hero of the same kind, so there’s that

Good luck ahead and have fun :four_leaf_clover:

No two 4* healers is not too much even if they are same one as boldtusk. As you say you will need plenty of heroes for war so nothing wrong with having two boldtusk (if you don’t get other healers) for two different teams.

Do I understand this correctly, are you leveling heroes you then use to feed others with?

Also I would hold a bit on your 5*, focus on 3* and 4* first.

You’re 4* heroes will form the backbone of your teams for a large part of the game (especially the healers), they are well worth keeping a hold of.

You can send C. Wilbur to me if he needs a new home!!

In all seriousness, keeping a copy of every hero - even if they’re waiting unfed in the wings while you concentrate on feeding others - is generally a good strategy. There are occasional heroes who are true garbage (hey Prisca!), but sometimes it’s just the case that you haven’t yet found a niche use for said hero. Like Carol, for example, was widely panned and then later became very useful in the Tower of Magic. Or Grimble, who seemed to have very little utility, and then the meta shifted to minions and it was his time to shine. So keep at least one of everything!

Having a strong and varied 4* bench will benefit you not only in war (30 heroes used), but also

  1. War of 3 kingdoms (12 x 5)
  2. Tavern of Legends (10 x 5)
  3. Magic and ninja tower (where curses can knock out a hero permanently)
  4. Styx tower (class restrictions disabling 4 classes at a time)
  5. class quests
  6. coming elemental quests

On the flip side, buying more space starts out relatively cheap. Does get expensive in the future as you buy more space, but that’s some time away

Heroes also get buffed or nerfed from time to time.

I prefer keeping one unique copy of every hero - even the “weaker” ones can be used in lower levels of the Towers or as clean up in war

2 healers and 4 hitters per Color is not too much for sure

Do you always attack with rainbow teams? Or do you color stack sometimes? Different folks have different styles, and different formats may have different optimal configurations  e.g. in titans it can be beneficial to Color stack strong Color against Titan

Thanks, all. Guess I’ll keep these boring red 4*s!

Unless there’s a reason, I like to attack with rainbows, although since I’m lacking in quality green and blue players, that doesn’t happen after my first two war rounds.

And I should have chosen my words better: I don’t level, then feed. I like my empty spaces to -accumulate- feeders.
