Bob’s Brief Bizarro Budget Breakdown… returns! (Nov 2024 edition)
A lot of attention gets focused on the high-end choices, especially for folks who want to clear a whole bunch of roster space even first and foremost, but once again I’m looking to the 10-soul choices, offering a few thoughts about each of them: why folks on a budget and trying to decide “take a cheap option” or “pass” might lean toward the former… or the latter.
- take: you’re hurting for S5 heroes at all; you want no-fuss bypass hit-all, with a chance to juice up with extra damage and DoT
- pass: bugs you that this Sobek comes without costume (though possibly you could get it via Outfitter, if you wait til Jan 2026 and the gem cost isn’t too high); one of the lowest total Power ratings and the actual lowest defense score of this SE’s choices; “just” damage (and from a hero currently 2.5 years old)
- take: you want variable-speed Uthragan with Magic family bonus and passives (damage plus poison DoT which heals self or all; passive can throw a light heal atop poison DoT/HoT); a damage/healing hybrid can be a useful add to many teams
- pass: if it’s a problem for you that poison doesn’t work on Toons, Astral Elves, Gargoyles, jerk enemies who keep spewing out ailment block (unless you have quick/persistent dispel and/or buff block); you are not enamored of a jack-of-all-trades even where poison is potentially useful
- take: you could really use some fiendbusting; you have a place for heal-over-time done actually fairly well, between priority cleanse and undispellable HoT; you’d like a green hybrid, as it also throws uncleansable poison (and heal-over-time can be underrated, given the growing prevalence of boost-healing counters)
- pass: if Slow is too slow for your use cases; enemy poison resistances (see Jett, above) bug you, or you don’t particularly want heal-over-time or a hybrid
- take: you like to stack yellows, at least 3 (or especially mono); you want a hit-all, mana-cut-all hero that fires at Average; you want fair damage for this tier of choices (semi-recent hero, attack focused)
- pass: you don’t plan to stack yellows (note that Xavier’s number of hit targets depends on the number of yellow allies alive, so he needs at least two really sturdy yellow buddies or mono to keep hitting everyone); you face a lot of mana-cut-resistant foes; you want full-throated modern hero damage
- take: you want a red healer (obviously)… who also dispels and throws extra healing based on that and boost-heals as a passive after the regular heal…and she is fairly sturdy still (high Power rating for all SE choices, never mind just the 10 tier, well-tilted toward defense/health)
- pass: if you don’t need (another) red healer, or prefer a healer with cleanse or buffing or something other than dispel
