I’m basically new-to-mid, f2p, and need some advice. I have Li Xiu, Gormek, Colen, and Kashhrek at 3/60 (note: Li also has costume at 3/24 and climbing since I have little else to spend gold feeders on at the moment). I have but one compass in my inventory and I don’t want to waste it. I’m leaning towards ascending Li Xiu, but I have Guardian Gazelle (who is my only 5* hero) at 4/70, and will be ascending her as soon as I get enough darts.
Currently, my main team includes Scarlett, Cyprian, and Kiril (all at 4/70) plus Gazelle, swapping her out for Wu Kong (4/70) for titans. I’m saving up for Atlantis, hoping to pull Proteus because I have a fat pile of purple feeders.
So: use the compass (and if so, on whom?) or save it and see what happens?
If I only knew who was available, I would take Li. And in the war you need more teams, so no problem with double yellow. But your main team seems to be missing a green one, so maybe Kashhrek for rainbow if you can’t wait. It would help to know your full roster.
Thanks for the assist. I’m pretty thin on options, comparatively speaking. I’ll have TC 20 in four days, so maybe at some point I’ll get more, but that’s way down the line. Besides some 1/1 3*s which are destined for food, I have:
Yellow: G.Gazelle 4/70 (need one more dart to ascend), WuKong 4/70, Li Xiu as noted, Bane and GanJu both 3/50
Red: Scarlett 4/70, Colen and Gormek 3/60, Hawkmoon 3/50 (costumed at max)
Purple: Cyprian 4/70, Renfeld, Chochin and Balthazar 3/50 (Renfeld costumed), Tiburtus 1/1, Oberon 2/40 (I found him terrible and he’s destined for the dinner table)
Blue: Kiril 4/70, Boril 3/17, Karil (and costume), Ulmer, Valen and Greymane all 3/50
Green: Kashhrek 3/60, Belith, Tuck, Muggy, Isshtak and Carver all at 3/50

Yellow: been spending extra feeders on Li Xiu’s costume, which is now at 3/24.
Blue: levelling Boril
Red: saving my feeders pending the decision here
Purple: I have Atlantis coins and am going to take a shot at Proteus. If I don’t get him, I’ll throw all my purple feeders at Tiburtus and test him out.
Green: I just pulled Tuck’s costume, it is now at 2/1, so I have a place to dump green feeders, but it’s not like he’s going to be my go-to guy. Belith had been for a long time.
Correction. If you are still needing darts, your Gazelle must still be at 3/70, not 4/70. I suggest you leave her at that and wait for better 5 star holy since she is a luxury hero ideal for players with deep bench. FYI, ascending her to the last tier does not require compass. I suggest you max Li and her costume version.
I do suggest you work on your 3 star bench of heroes by creating 3-5 max rainbow teams. This will help you get ascension mats for your 4 and 5* heroes. Use the forum search options for discussions on which hero to keep, level and max and which to dispose.
Yes, it must be 3/70. But @Dongle mentioned needing darts to ascend. Regardless of this, I agree @Ultra to build 3 * first. They are the easiest way to take part in events and tournaments.
Yeah get a few 3* in your rosta maxed.
Also don’t feed any 3* like Oberon sure he’s not great keep just for trails (don’t even need to max) as you have a limited rosta at the moment even doing the first round to get a few emblems that you will need in the future.
My error, you are correct, Gazelle is 3/70 and needs one more dart to ascend to tier 4. Have all the other mats for Gazelle, but I just checked and if I ascend Li I won’t have enough orbs to ascend Gazelle even if I get the dart.
What I’m leaning towards is saving the compass and stockpiling until Atlantis, if I get lucky and pull Wilbur I’ll use my red feeders for him, I think he’s better than Gormek or Colen. In the meantime I can earmark all my gold feeders for Li’s costume.
Part of the decisions you have to make are whether you want to focus on offense or defense. If you’re focusing on defense, one could argue that you should level up Kashhrek, Cyprian, and Boril, put them in the middle of your defense team, and then turn to the rest of your bench.
I tend to think that defense should not be one’s top priority. Raiding and tournaments take precedence for me. Thus, because Cyprian, Boril, and Kashhrek are of limited use on offense (one could make a case for raiding with Boril or Cyprian when the team you’re attacking has a hit-them-all hero or two), I would not focus on them until I had exhausted my offensive options. For example, if you didn’t have Kiril at 4/70, I would say he is your top priority. Similarly, I would cease working on Cyprian in favor of Tiburtus or Renfeld & Renfeld’s costume.
A rule of thumb is to have a decent bench of three-star heroes before working on four-star heroes. Depending on the importance you place on war (or your alliance would like you to place on war) you might consider working on a mix of three- and four-star heroes. If you or your alliance wants you to field six decent teams post haste, then focus on three-stars as you’ll max them more quickly.
Given my preference for offense, I would recommend the following which seems pretty consistent with what you are already thinking:
Purple: Tiburtus > Renfeld & Costume > Chochin and Oberon last (good for Rush tournaments)
Yellow: Li Xiu (since you have the costume) > Gazelle > Wu Kong unless you prioritize Titans and/or Wu has trouble surviving your titan attacks in which case he’s next
Blue: Boril (seems like everyone else is maxed?)
Green: this is a tough one; neither Kashhrek nor Tuck is a favorite of mine, but the costume does improve Tuck… Contradicting myself here, I will say Kashhrek for your tank on defense
Red: of the two, Colen and Gormek, I prefer the latter. Colen is slow and Gormek has the defense down special, so I prefer him. There are a lot of Gormek haters out there, so others may disagree. I leveled Gormek, set him as my tank, gave him emblems, and used him regularly for a long time. Ergo, Gormek > Colen
Re Wilbur: He is pretty useful given his defense down. He is useful against all titans for this reason. If you are fortunate enough to pull him or Proteus, then they should get some attention.
Yeah sorry should have clarified. The 3s that I identified above are all at 3/50, so I have at least 15 maxed out 3 heros plus the 4s that I’m either using or working on. The only 3 that isn’t maxed is Tuck’s costume, the main Tuck is 3.50.
