This thread is to provide early insights and discussion on the November 2024 HOTM, Mene

All Information from Beta is Subject to Change!

Don’t get attached

Details from beta, especially brand-new beta content, don’t tend to be very reliable for actual hero release.

It’s incredibly common that heroes are changed during beta testing, or sometimes even after testing but before release. That is, after all, the purpose of beta testing.

So I wouldn’t get too attached to any of this — it’s not unheard of for entire portions of skills to be removed or reworked, or for radical changes to stats to be made.

Or: How many summons are needed to get a HOTM?

Special thanks to @Garanwyn for assistance on summoning odds and proofreading for this section.

It’s important to remember that HOTM have very low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a HOTM.

On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 12.3% chance of summoning the HOTM.

But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.

Some useful insights:

  • 73 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 100
  • 95 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 229
  • 99 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 352

Putting that in Perspective

  • 27 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 100th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 100 times, 270,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

  • 5 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 229th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 229 times, 50,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these two threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

Should read : Fairy Queen of the Night.

Note: Reading this title I immediately heard in my head Dio belting out the line “She’s queen of the night” from the track Lady Evil on Sabbath’s Heaven And Hell album :metal:

Game related note: This is going to get confused with the gargoyle Mena

Isnt she a ice-(better)-version of Aviana ? @Dzibong

You are right. I have fixed the fancy name of the hero.

Thanks. Can I assume that the Beta team passed back to staff the high level of similarity in the names Mene and Mena ? I know we’ve had close matches before but I don’t think quite this close.
Examples:
Hilda / Hulda
Azlar / Azar
Nash / Nashgar
Balur / Baldur
Thor / Thorne
Frosty / Frosth
Jott / Jolt
Elba / Ebba
Itham / Ithar
Vander / Vanda

okay… but this isn’t the kind of hero that I want to level. So… fine… decent hero… but probably going to a soul exchange.

Should be 13 legendaries who do frost damages. Among these, fast heroes can be nice pairing with this Hotm

Depends on how much the frost damage scales up to, could be a nice addition to a DoT team.

I rarely use any hotms, but Aviana is one of the few ones I use regularly. I dont have any buff blockers in blue so ill try to get her ice version in november.

About my opinion…
November is my birthday month, so game ALWAYS give me a HOTM(or 3, as last year :joy:), and she’s pretty good as a HOTM, but unfortunately I have looong blue queue

Great song Oxide, has such an infectious beat!

280% for 3 enemies at average is kinda mediocre. Even for hotm. 320% would be at least decent.

Average amount of frost damage via dot… ok
… for 4 turns…bad

Should be 3 turns.

All s1 DOT heroes are useless because their mediocre DOT damages are splashed in 6 motherfreaking turns. IMO, only 1200+ DOT damage should’ve be divided into 4 or more turns.

The rest is in pair with other hotm. Damage on buff is rare for c2p/f2p.

Yes :white_check_mark:

No :negative_squared_cross_mark:

I’ve always said that what I like most about Avian is the critical hit chance… And here we have 3 x 50% against 1-5 x 20% (since I usually fight in a 3-2 system, in my case it will be more like 3x20%, because I rarely combine HOTMs from the same year).
Of course, Mene has a DoT bonus and penalties for attempted effects, which makes her a better choice in some situations, but it doesn’t make her any better overall… (Toons and protections work to Aviana’s advantage).
For me, both cards are comparable in quality, because they gain or lose value depending on the type of opponent.
The game evolves very quickly and set values (DoT, penalty) will lose value while the benefits of the critical bonus will increase with the attack stats of the used (companion) cards

What I’m most curious about is the passive skill…

If three enemies suffer DoT, will Mene gain 15% or 5% mana in one turn?
Because we already know how to speed up Aviana… up to 6 tiles! …but will Mene be able to keep up with her?

Tested this just for you.
1 turn of freezing 3 enemies gave her that much mana:
Blue line is full manabar
1000027465
as i’m not allowed to post pics from beta it’s a visualization made in different program, and I don’t share any beta content
Maybe I’m too tired, but I can’t count is this 5% or 15%, but you can see it here.
Unfortunately in my opinion it’s more likely 5%, so it doesn’t work:(

But to me it looks more like 15% (i.e. about 1/6-1/7 of the mana bar)…
This could be great news (for those who get her).

Do you use this buff for tile attack ?

In general, critical hit only works on tiles and normal attacks (including Mega Minions)…
…so the tiles destroy the enemy much faster

Example:
3 yellow tiles & Krampus (neutral color)

Example:
3 red tiles & Thorne (weak colour)

Thanks for illustration!!
In fact, I also set up the team for Tile attack, with the Yellow Duo:

CJasper (60% Crit. , 60% Attack Up)
+
C2 WuKong (170% AttackUp w/ 25% Missed)

Recently I also have a proud tile win over Sludgus

Since I have CJasper, I feel not much motivated for Aviana, but with Mene where EL-Crit buff can stack with both Jasper and Aviana, seems to pick my interests

At the last CoE I managed to get his regular version, so Aviana will lose her place in the “anti-Titans” team…
There is still the issue of buff block and speed, which can be significant in some fights…

And that’s the coolest aspect of the new HOTMs
