🧪 Early information on New Season 3 (Valhalla) Hero -- Salmon Loki (again)

NOTE: Please do not, under any circumstances, share IMAGES OR VIDEOS from Beta in this or any public Forum thread. Violations can cause players to lose their Beta accounts, or threads to be closed down.

This thread is to provide early insights and discussion on the new (/ revamped) Season 3 Hero, Salmon Loki.

All Information from Beta is Subject to Change!

Don’t get attached

Details from beta, especially brand-new beta content, don’t tend to be very reliable for actual hero release.

It’s incredibly common that heroes are changed during beta testing, or sometimes even after testing but before release. That is, after all, the purpose of beta testing.

So I wouldn’t get too attached to any of this — it’s not unheard of for entire portions of skills to be removed or reworked, or for radical changes to stats to be made.

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these two threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

Couple things:

  • Yes, I know that its ANOTHER vanaheim hero… and ANOTHER purple monk vanaheim at that too… Basically he has exactly the same design he originally had before Salmon Loki V1 became Bera… I’ve commented as much that this will make 4x Vanaheim Legendaries while other realms have only 1x Legendary…

  • Yes I know the wording is â– â– â– â–  on the special skill description… but it’s how it’s written…

Let me try explaining how it works (as I understand… I didn’t test much cause… well I hate this beta build again)…

In order of effects:

  1. Salmon Loki Casts skill
  2. Does damage to any holy enemies on the enemy team
  3. All enemies change their element
  4. Your turn ends and then enemy turn begins.
  5. Enemy does their thing & at end of their turn, any holy enemies there take damage.
  6. All enemies again change to a random colour (may be the same as current colour, may be different).
  7. Deals damage to any holy enemies (again).
  8. Repeat steam 4-7 for another turn
  9. End of their second turn they go back to normal colours.

Someone who tested more than me may correct stuff but that’s what my recollection is from briefly playing with him…

My suggested wording for the special skill goes something like this:

So rather then bring out a OP or strong hero like Ursena, they bring this? His initial damage only hits yellows, then all heroes change to random colours and his extra damage still hits only yellows with no promise that there will be any yellows.

I know Loki is suppose to be the trickster God but this is ridiculous, why release this crappy hero now? Just leave S3 as is. Plus we don’t need another purple hero from S3

What’s the use case for Salmon Loki? I imagine we’ll see comparisons to Guardian Chameleon but with randomness added.
The only use case I see is at Tank for those that don’t have a better option. Natural thought would be to stack Holy, but with Salmon Loki at tank, you can avoid the direct damage. The randomness of elements will certainly mess with the offense’s planned synergy. Maybe this makes those Odin flanks better if the offense doesn’t want to bring Holy? I’m definitely reaching here, but you still get the mana cut and perhaps Salmon is an upgrade to those that may only have someone like Rigard.

At first I’m not super excited here.

Must have hero for defense, 11/10 A++++ troll factor will make attackers go

@Ruskin505
I see the salmon as a purely defensive, chaos oriented fun hero. Can you imagine how much he would drive attackers up the wall?

Oh :poop: my holy stack got changed to blue and green, and the board has very few of those tiles, Ah better hope they get changed back next round. Son of a mother :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: now I have 4 red heroes!!! What the :poop: am I supposed to do here???

Yeah, I don’t think there’s much danger of that.

I’d like to know what SGG has against fish… they’re almost universally awful. Mok-Arr, Agwe, and now Salmon Loki? Did one of their mothers get slapped by a fish?

This hero manages to be the worst of the bunch.

Would Salmon Loki be able to change the enemies’ colour to a forbidden one in tournaments?

Yes. Same as Guardian C can now.

Well Ursena seems to be pretty decent, and she’s a squid-ish… thing? Oh and don’t forget Zila Lei who is let’s just call a generic cephalopod. Vodnik is also pretty ok for a 3*, as is Gato. (yeah ok I’m reaching here)

To be fair Mok-Arr is at least “not awful” after he got buffed. Not saying he’s good, but just not awful. Agwe I agree is still really underwhelming.

So you’re saying they’re okay with cephalopods, but not fish. :joy:

Really the best fish-like hero I can think of is Proteus.

I fail to see how a fish being a hero… Yes, and I know it’s Loki.

Oh well, thanks SG for releasing an useless with lame hero idea, at least my wallet is going to be happy.

It seems the SG devs may have a certain… obsession with a certain anatomical part of cephalapods

Color me confused on this one too

I can see a use on defense as there is a correlation between hero color and tiles, but on offense I draw a blank as there seem to be no negatives for an opposing hero changing color - almost all aspects of all their attacks are color neutral. The holies get hit, and some may end up becoming a weak color to some of your heroes, but it is all too random and too little to have any sort of positive impact.

So far, and I say this with a heavy heart - Reuben looks better than this guy

Not another RGNerator pls.

This hero is insanely underpowered, he might be worse than norns. But he still has a niche. I won’t use it anywhere outside of raid defence. And why this hero when S4 just came out another dark hero (the squid guy) and a way better one than this salmon? Is there an inside joke pitting S3 and S4 with sealife? Don’t forget S2 has mok arr, and S1 has the octopus dude. Is E&P so obsessed with sea creatures?

I don’t think I have ever been less interested in having a hero
