Aegir... Worth it or nah...? (Pulled from Tavern of Legends)

Aegir is a great offensive hero. Very good vs. sniper heavy defensive teams and imo the best healer in the game vs titans. There is not a single healer that heals for 100% besides Aegir. Fire Aegir, damage spread + defence buff prevents heroes a lot of the time from dying, 3 blue tiles on the titan, everyone is back to full health, no matter how many hp they had left.
On defence he can be a pain, but only if you don’t get to use tiles strictly on him and him only and charge the flanks. If you have good options in the middle 3 rows, you can just keep charging him untill you are set up to decimate the other team

I wouldn’t say he is bad. He is definitely not as bad as many claim he is.

I don’t have him. However, even if I had him, I wouldn’t put him on my defense team. In my opinion, once you get the hang of how to tackle Aegir, Aegir tanks stop being scary and look more inviting - my personal opinion.

On offense though, he would be great at keeping your team alive.

Again, since his special is a bit atypical, it’ll need some getting used to, I reckon.

yeah, I agree, Aegir is fairly easy to work around on defense.

He’s my tank, but only because among my heroes, he is the BEST suited to tank (none of my other ascended 5s are particularly tanky, for reference I have Seshat, Aeron, Sartana, Marjana, Elena, Isarnia, Lepus, Margaret, Gregorion, Joon, Inari, Rana, and among the 4s I have Boldtusk, Kiril and Li Xiu as the most promising tanks).

And my defense isn’t that good, it does keep me in high Platinum though.

As others have said, if you have a negative impression of Aegir, it’s likely an artifact of his initial build.

My experience is very much in line with @Math4lyfe. Aegir takes some getting used to, because his healing component is contingent on the next few moves you’re going to make. That’s harder to utilize well, compared to a flat and immediate heal. I still feel I do poorly with him, honestly.

Also, you need to be acutely aware of the state of your heroes health and incoming damage before putting up that spirit link. If you have a hero who is low on health and a special skill incoming from the defense, Aegir’s special skill will guarantee your hero is killed. Example: you have a hero in the red health zone and Joon is about to fire. There’s a 1/5 chance he kills your hero. But if you fire Aegir it is now 100% that hero dies. Also, had you just let Joon kill that hero outright he’d have wasted most of his damage ‘overkilling’ that hero. But with Aegir’s buff Joon’s full damage is applied (minus the defense buff, of course).

Having a level 23 mana troop makes a pretty big difference with Aegir.

All that said, he’s good and clearly not great. There’s a wealth of readily available green dispellers. Also, Finley murder trains him (due to Aegir buffing all). Ultimately, he’s a passive tank and those heroes are almost always susceptible. I have beaten him in war many many times with a late flag and a team as seemingly ill-suited to beating him as Boldtusk, Wilbur, another red, and two other non green, non dispeller heroes.

Snow White does similar. She absolutely destroys Aegir teams if his special is active when she goes off.

Aegir tanks are an excellent use for your red heroes in wars, as long as you have Wilbur (and AoE to bring along, which red is brimming with).

The team I use exclusively when raiding is my mono purple: costume Rigard, Panther, Kageburado (soon to be replaced by costume Sartana), Seshat #1 and Seshat #2. I’ll take on a Kunchen tank without any reservations, even with a second purple like Seshat in the corner and no yellows at all. Boss Wolf is also easy as pie. I’d rather avoid Ursena, though, but I’ve won against her in tournaments (bloody battle no less, on a bad board) when I have no choice (outside switching up my team, which I don’t do unless purple is banned).

These are all very good information. And now I also want to know who are good heros to pair with Aegir?

Aegir is a stupidity - check… Especially in wars… Sure a green mono with full of dispellers will take him out in seconds but what after that? Purple? Blue? Maybe…

Just build your war def team around him and not just use your best heroes… Some of my most devastating 1 point war attacks come from Aegir tanks…

I would love him for events / titans. Think about: Aegir + Tarlak = immortal combo.

I hunt him with my red team… He’s not really a threat, and him surviving beyond his flanks doesn’t matter at all to me.

Having said that, even if he’s a lousy tank (to me anyway), if I had him I’d max him immediately for offense.
