Glad to see some other people noticed that, too 
Personally, I think the direction looks nice but is far from being surprising or innovative. It caters current popcultural preferences. A totally new turn would have been nice to see… Some sci-fi elements for example. Worked great in some old cRPGs. And the outcry of protest here on the forum would have been very fun to read 
But I think it’s best to be on the safe side if you want to keep the fanbase…

I am always happy to see new stuff, but I hope that season 1 heroes will still be relevant. That is an equally important part of this game for me
