I have been wondering about the Monster Island Hero’s Family bonus. Do the various Hunter family types, i.e. Abyss, Jungle, etc. combine to give the family bonus, even if they are from different families, or do they function like the S3 heroes, and only the exact same realm counts towards the number needed for granting the family bonus? I thought I had seen where SG had done some type of combination of families, but I can’t find the answer. Quick example: If I were to take a team consisting of Adalinda and Waterpipe, both of which are from the Plains Hunter Family, along with Mistweaver, Jungle Hunter Family, and Staintongue and Dabria, both Abyss Hunter Family, do I have five Hunter Family heroes with regards to the Family Bonus, or do I have two each of Plains Hunters and Abyss Hunters, along with one Jungle Hunter hero?
Thank you! I’m confident I’ll find my answer here! If I simply overlooked the answer, I apologize!!!

No, they don’t combine together.
The only families combining together are the Lunar New Year families with each other, and the Untold Tales families combine with the Atlantis family.
I think that’s somewhat missing the point of my question. I compare the MH family to Valhalla heroes. They all fall under the umbrella of a larger family, but then within that overarcing family, there are subfamilies within Valhalla, such as the Alfheim, Vanaheim, Midgard, etc. Does the same concept hold true for the MHs? For example, Abyss Hunter, Plains Hunter, etc. I asked the question in order to either confirm that the family bonus does not apply for the various MH subgroups, or, if I combine 2 Abyss Hunter Heroes with 2 Jungle Hunter Heroes, does the bonus kick in and I get the additional buffs for 4 heroes. I was prompted to ask the question because I am currently Ascending Dabria, an Abyss Hunter family member, and something clicked in my brain that said I had seen an announcement that indicated the larger MH family bonus applied when even the sub-family members were put together. Thank you for your answer though. Yours’ might be all the information I need, but I still don’t feel satisfied that my actual inquiry was satisfied. Thank you!!!
And I think that’s somewhat missing the point of my answer.
There is no such thing as the Valhalla family. Valhalla is Season 3 and brings heroes of different families/kingdoms. Just like season 2 brings Atlantis, Lagoon and Sakura families. They are families on their own. There is no such thing as subfamilies. Just seasons and events bringing a number of heroes from different families to the game. So in that sense, the concept you describe exists (yea, seasons and events can bring multiple families) but it brings absolutely nothing for the family bonuses to combine heroes of the same season/event if they are not from the same family.
The only exceptions being what I said in my previous message:
- The Lunar New Year heroes actually all have their own family (even though the displayed name is the same but the bonus is different for each of them: Tiger and Rabbit) but they combine together as told by their family bonus description.
- The Untold Tales heroes have two families: Defenders of Atlantis and Nightmares of Atlantis, whose heroes combine together as part of the same family for the second part of the family bonus of those two families, but they also combine and participate with the standard (from Season 2) heroes from the Atlantis family.
Two other special cases are the Bard and Cupid families which share their family bonus with solo heroes (understand heroes who have their family bonus only at level one, so for families requiring unique heroes, if you have the same heroes twice in your team and no other hero from their family (hence their family bonus will stick at level 1), they will benefit from the Bard and/or Cupid family bonus too).
I hope this more complete answer clears things up.
Happy gaming.

Elioty,
Thank you for the in-depth answer. You certainly satisfied my curiosity. In addition to your answer of my question, your comment about the Bard Family and duplicate heroes was an eye opener! I sometimes wonder how I’ve even leveled up to level 90, especially compared to players like yourself, able to see the nuances of the game, and able to strategize using the dynamics of the game, again, such as Bard and duplicate heroes, and plan your teams and battles accordingly. Thank you, and have a great weekend!!!

Thank you, Blem. You slowed it down and spoke simple to me!!! Seriously, your answer was often. Isn’t it fun having someone like me clutter up the forums asking questions about phantom, non-existent SG announcements???!!! Maybe I dreamed it, just because I have so many Monster Hunter heroes! I certainly would love it if they introduced that buff! Have a great weekend!!
