I haven’t seen this in the emblem topics I have read and thought it worth highlighting. If a moderator believes it belongs elsewhere, please feel free to move it.
There are a multitude of topics that essentially value 1 point of Defense the same as 2 points of Health.
The emblem paths follow the same logic, either 18 Def or 36 Health in a node.
So far so good.
Why do I believe that when having to choose between Def or HP in an emblem path that Def is the better choice?
4* Troops.
Mana Troops boost Attack, Defense, Healing and Mana (lvl 1 mana troop +11% Defense)
Crit Troops boost Attack, Defense, Healing and Critical hit chance.
Crit troops boost Defense much more than HP (lvl 1 crit troop +16% Defense, +4% HP)
Therefore, assuming you will be equipping your heroes with 4* troops whenever you are able your troops ALWAYS boost Defense by a minimum of 11% more than HP meaning that your emblems are worth MORE on Defense than HP.
Quite honestly, I only go defense and HP route on healers and status afflicters. Any offensive based hero (Grimm, and all snipers for example) I go all in on attack. My +20 Proteus is always assigned my dark crit troop. And mana troops are used to lower the tiles on certain heroes that I want to charge faster.
@Aunty_Krauser
For tile monsters and snipers I have also gone attack route as much as possible. In some cases it forces the decision between HP and Def. I was simply trying to balance them to some degree although favoring HP because healers tend to heal a percentage and not an absolute number (HoT is more absolute number and direct a percentage) but was looking at troops and the boosts they give and HP gets the big boost between the two. I favor mana troops in most situations and they only boost Def.
@Zsj
I agree with your logic. Minion summoners are often healers of some type (direct or DoT) and usually the HP/Def path is emphasized (ok, Delilah as a fighter gets a lot of attack nodes and I took her mostly via attack and chose HP when forced to choose due to minions).
The new DoTs are making that form damage more significant as they now stack. Until this year it was mostly all burn and poison (with a few rarities such as Lady Locke or Morgan le Fey, bleed doesn’t (didn’t?) matter as the amount was so low) which meant a lot of overwriting so overall it wasn’t particularly threatening.
With the flood of new DoT heroes and new ailments you are entirely correct that HP has more value when facing those heroe.
Def still matters for tiles and at least on the tank it is key as that is usually what kills the tank. For heroes you only use when raiding I suppose the number of cleasers available to you determines how much of a threat the DoTs are.
