Elradir – 5* Nature/ Green - June 2021 HOTM (Hero of the Month) -- Initial Release

Not sure about Poseidon, but I know Miki has the exact same resistance. The resistance reads :“This hero has innate resistance against status ailments that block special skills”. Okay, fine, but Mindless Attack doesn’t block, it replaces, again not my words, SGGs very own description. And if you think I am splitting hairs I’d point out that no, there are two different symbols specifically differentiating between “blocking” and “replacing”.

I think you are splitting hairs on wording. As Guv mentioned above, their are multiple heroes with resistances that cover a range of ailments that aren’t specifically mentioned. In my mind, MA does block a hero from using their special skill because when their mana is full, they are not able to use their special skill as intended (it blocks it from firing). Poseidon has the same icon and I know for a fact it stops Alfrike from casting MA, I’ve seen it many times before in wars. If it works for Poseidon in that manner, it should work the same for this HotM.

My guess here is that it’s lumped together with mana control. Although it has nothing to do with mana and works differently from other mana control ailments. But nevertheless its group into the same catergory

Feel like I’m beating a dead horse here, but if you read “Mindless Attack”, it is the slash attack that takes place only when mana is full. So without mana being full, mindless attack doesn’t take place.

I agree it should be consistent. My argument is the wording is inaccurate and needs clarifying. “Blocking” is a specific E&P game term. So is “Replaces”. The Resistance makes no mention of replacing, only blocking, and again SGG is the one who split the hair because they have a separate symbol for each type of effect. Ultimately the use of the word “block”, which was my point from the very beginning of this thread, is a poor choice of word if they didn’t intend it to have a specific game mechanic.

It’s a semantics issue. @Altius_Virgule and I see ‘replacing’ as just the switching of skills, nothing to do with blocking anything. While you see the replacing as denying the original skill, hence the blocking of skills. I still stand by my logic, but I don’t own the game and don’t main MA so I move on I guess

Heck, I’m just happy I pulled him

Kinda looks like he’s creepin on Renfeld though :joy:

Bad analogy incoming…

If you have $100 in your wallet and have it ready to use to purchase something, and I replace that $100 with Monopoly money, I’ve blocked you from using your $100 to make a purchase.

There’s ultimately a very simple fix, change the description to read, “This hero has innate resistance against status ailments that block, silence, or replace special skills”. It’s only 3 words longer than the current description and it clarifies the game mechanics. This is the fix I would recommend to @Guvnor, and it’s inline with similar wording changes made in V38 to other heroes. To my kowledge it would only apply to Miki, Elradir, & Poseidon. Might be others I am not aware of, but these 3 could benefit from the wording change.

My view on this is more of like…
I have a 100 dollars and I want to buy a playstation (geez imagine that irl) across the street. But you stopped me before I could buy it, confiscated my 100 and give me a 30 with an additional rule. I can only buy a gaming console with that money on my own street. So I end up buying a cheap knock-off product call a ‘polystat’ next to me instead. I still have a gaming console, but it’s not a 100 dollar playstation

In your analogy, You’ve still been blocked from buying a real PlayStation with your $100.

@Tidyup

Just tested it, Elradir does block MA

But I have an inferior product which is still a gaming console

The analogy is pretty accurate. The mindless attack is classified as a special rather than a slash attack - it can be dodged for instance

True, but you said it yourself, “you stopped me before I could buy it”, ie. Stopped your special skill. The $30 Polystat (slash attack) is not a “special” product (skill). The innate ability is “resistance against status ailments that block special skills”

Maybe we’ll just keep doing circles here.

The wording on the cards can sometimes be ambiguous (Norns for example, is one that really bugs me, as it doesn’t work on defense). I can see that some may interpret it differently. I for one am happy this HotM blocks Mindless attack though, as I’m lacking that ability in my roster.

A Gravemaker counter, 2 years after GM’s release!

He’s just in time for Emilio though

He’s not a good counter for emilio. he can only reflect 3 turns so the damage reflected back isn’t the full damage over turns. And Emilio also regens health, so whatever damage reflected will be heal back anyways

Mindless attack is a different but an advanced form of blocking where the target is not only prevented from casting similiar to being blocked but also get their mana reduced and turn them to attack allies with slash attack (not special skill).

De jure, mindless attack and blocking are different status effect. De facto, both prevent the target from casting special skill.

Stop debating unecessarily in this thread as it doesn’t even talking about Elradir.

Umm, the whole point of the conversation is about Elradir’s resistance.

This part is not quite correct - it is a special skill as it can be dodged
