I’ve seen posts by some saying they won’t go for legendary troops at all or that the mana boost from magc heroes is superior on defense so they don’t plan to use Legendary troops.

We have investigated the mana on defense here.
In most cases the hero with +20% mana bonus troops will charge in 1 turn less than the very same hero with just +11% mana bonus troops.
