I think the answer is no.
I canāt perfectly test this as I have a lot of some materials. Hereās what I did: I have 12 green legendary aethers. I used hero coach on four heroes. I still have 12 aethers. I donāt notice a change in my alpha count either.
So it doesnāt consume mats. But I canāt perfectly test if there is any check for having those mats. Iām guessing that wonāt be a problem but we have seen issues like that pop up elsewhere.

Tbh with this i would gladly take all of my 3/70 heroes to maximum, cos why not. Museum is accepting all freshly leveled 
I like the idea, what i donāt like is the limit which is 1 per event and probably that will be 3 months apartā¦
Let us level the heroes we have more more faster game is slow for the new heroes that keep comingā¦
Until itās stated clearly when this event goes live, itās up to Zynga to revise as they wish.

Who knows whether Zynga will backtrack some or all on the āfreebie AM/aethersā ?
Sure it would be āsillyā of Zynga to backtrack fully but they can backtrack some right ?!
Donāt think this is good for the game, but not my call. Much like people complained about the regular game getting slower (it didnāt) after they added the hurry-up mode, people are going to be complaining that the regular method for leveling is too slow. They already do, but this will only make it worse. Same goes for the āauto-levelā summoning portal.
