Hello all. I am looking for advice to which 5 star raid defence team should I aim with my current roster:
Green: Alberich, Elkanen, Margaret
Red: Gravemaker, Azlar, Khagan
Blue: Ariel
Purple: Hel, Kunchen
Yellow: Poseidon, Joon, Vivica, Justice
Alby and GM are obvious, when I got Kunchen I planned for him as a future tank (no luck on Guin on last avalon). Meanwhile I got Ariel and today got lucky with just a few draws on Hel and GM.
With Hel in the picture I would prefer her in final ascension (not only for defence) and can imagine Ariel in def team instead of Kunchen (with both and Alby it would be too much healers).
Do you think this would work fine: Alby-GM-Ariel-Hel-Poseidon (prefer poseidon over joon for family bonus)… Or maybe I should consider GM as a center?
Or is the now widely used Kunchen that much better of a tank than Ariel would be in center, though she is average mana.
Thank you. Do you have experience fighting a fully maxed Ariel in center position? Does her special go off at least once usually before falling or she does not give much trouble?
I know Kunchen is the obvious choice for center here, but choosing Kunchen would:
not allow me to ascend Hel first (i have mats for one per color) and i think she would be more useful to me considering all aspects (events, attack etc). She is also A+ in Anchors sheet for defense
would leave me with 3 healers in defence, the firepower may be weak then
This is why I am trying to find the best defence team without using Kunchen (at least for the time being, i plan to ascend Kunchen as well, but getting the mats will take a few months)
So I have my first 5* rainbow def team coming to max with the heroes as initially planned (Hel just reached the final ascension now, rest already on 4/80:
I know it may be a matter of playing around and trying, until Hel is maxed I am running Proteus as purple also due to family bonus.
I am wondering how to setup the team when Hel will jump in (I had some mixed results with both GM and Ariel in center, though I think with GM it was performing a bit better)
I would probably go with the first setup. There’s a pretty good way to neutralize GM tanks now with Grazul, but if you put Ariel at tank then Grazul is a lot less appealing.
Of course that won’t help you once Kingston is out though. They are really out to get GM these days…
Thank you all. I guess there is a general agreement that GM is the best tank candidate from my heroes, though I will try with both him and Ariel and see the results.
I think Hel was considered as a great center as well in the past. Though I still see her in some defense teams in center position I am not sure if that is still valid (I did not have much issue with her as tank)
I do actually have mats to also ascend Yunan who I know is a great tank (but do not know if I would use him anywhere else much so I am hesitating and rather hoping for a tc20 lianna or a lucky Kingston pull in October) - and also interested in your opinion, but I think Alby is Alby and would not like to replace him with Yunan in my def team.
How much cups do you hold with your defense?
Mine is able to stay around 2550 currently (with still proteus in as purple) - when I jump too high to around 2800 with attacks I am usually kicked back to the same level.
I do wonder if with my def team even with Hel in and my current emblem/troop levels I can hope to stay a bit higher…
2550-2600 is about where I sit. I can push into the top 100 without realizing it in the mornings usually.
I don’t stack when I raid. I honestly use my D team (with Lianna) just in a different setup most of the time to raid.
I do get kicked back down most of the time. But that is what happens when you get to a certain number of cups.
I am hoping for Kingston next month as my green 5* outside of Lianna is Kadlien (getting maxed, we only seem to face blue tanks in war) and Horghall (no chance).
In my experience, if Ariel fires once you are in SERIOUS trouble without a dispeller ready to quell that mana boost. She’s not as big of a pain as Kunchen is, but for me she is more difficult than Gravemaker at tank.
Thank you for the feedback. I have a Kunchen waiting at 3/70 but decided for Hel (for more def team firepower and also attack team is a bit more important to me). For me Kunchen poses no issue in def teams usually, so I was ok to not go with him for now. Guess it all depends on our attack rosters and options, my yellow is the strongest.
Now that I am testing l still see that GM tank defense has higher win rate. Once Hel is maxed I will put her to flank which discourages purple stack (so less cleansing Rigard) and should it make more difficult for the attacker to counter bad boards with GM firing once or twice.
I guess GM is more successful as Ariel because of basic green disspellers (i run green mono alby-caed-caed-mel-elk) so I also notice no big challenge with blue tanks like aegir. Will see and report how it goes with alby-hel-gm-ariel-pose setup.
I agree I use him as well in attack and very happy with him, but he does the job at 70 as well for now. He is definitely next in line for my next purple 5* ascend.
I have quite a few purple 5* maxed (Khiona, Victor, Kunchen, Seshat) and Sartana at 70. I am quite deep there
If I could pull Kingston next month I’ll be happy. Just maxed Kadlien cuz I had 17 tonics and we seem to face blue tanks in wars every time. Otherwise just Lianna for green 5* (horghall doesn’t count).
The win rate went up, 50% exactly in the last 24 attacks against me (12w/12l), this setup seems to work better (i have found that Itachi from 7DD runs the same heroes in defense in this order as well, though more heavily emblemed and trooped).
I had a recent fight against a similar team and ariel in center, alby revived Ariel 3 times and they boosted each others mana gain so it was impossible to stop once it went going, she can be punishing indeed.
I have just maxed Drake Fong (+6) and thinking if I could improve my defense by including him instead of alby or ariel for more punching power. Any ideas how you would organize it appreciated.
