My troops,
Not quite 3 years f2p.
If I had concentrated on the first troop, I could have lvl.30 in all colors.
But I fight with 3- or 4-stacks in war, occasional a mono attack, so I went for lvl23/17/11/11/5 in every color:
High level troops take some time, but not always a lot of money.

Collecting this many 4* troop, and event heroes seems unlikely with farmed pulls.
Nice 7th team slot tho! 
Been playing for 4 years, just got VIP a year ago, and I have 50 4* troops. I don’t think is that difficult. The real problem is leveling.
And yet the experience varies:
I’m not saying it’s no possible.
It just seems unlikely that not only have all the Crit been eaten, to have such abundance without spending.

but I won a lot of EHTs and ETTs in Challenge events. I use ETTs only in Towers and do not keep crit and Ninja troops. HA6 runs without pause for feeders.
I use EHTs only in seasonal Portals, and a few gems too, because the chances are there a bit better (1.2% compared with 1% in other portals).

Actually there’s a post from me on that thread, since I also had big problems getting a blue mana 4* (actually I first got a wizard and a ninja).

Since there’s lot of random, each case will differ from others. But chances are not that low, we get a lot of ETTs from the game.
