Fiends, Minions and Critical Damage

Hey all!

We’ve had several threads on here over the years re: minions and critical damage. I could not find a definitive answer for fiends/crits so I did an experiment.

Results: Fiend bites do not crit.

Here’s what I did:

-Picked a hard map stage w/ a strong boss (buy time to observe prolonged isolated fiend damage)

-Cleared all enemys except for boss

-Ghosted tiles around boss ensuring the only damage the enemy was receiving was fiend bites. No tiles.

-Built teams focused on crit modifiers. Troops, specials, family bonus, atk and def down

-I ran this 8 times. There were ZERO crits once I started ghosting tiles.

  • Friendly raids 3 times. Same result.

Clearing screens to boss: Crit occuurance so high I couldnt keep tally. Didnt really matter though. It was clear who benefits from crit modifiers - troops

Fiend damage does benefit from Atk Up and Def down. Anastasias and Viscaros feinds were hitting for 35 and 45 avg without buffs/debuffs. With buffs, they increased significantly, averaging 54 and
74.

Then…I tried a minion team the same. Isolated the enemy. Ghosted tiles while observing minions damage. Not a single crit.

Aand now Im here hoping someone can shed some light.

Was there an update that changed minion/crit mechanics? Is everything we’ve known for years about crit and minions a lie? Mandela affect? Were we ever really sure that minions dropped crits?

here Kvasir bees doing a crit (in november, my test), and a similar thread that maybe can help you. I’m not familiar with fiends.

I presumed neither minions nor fiends could do a crit attack. But as a former biology major… I support your method of testing.

They can crit, but unlike tiles it doesn’t write crit over it, so that’s a problem while testing…

Just made a video.

First round of minion hits without crit boost. They all hit for 17-19 hp. The only exception the nasty thorn minion with little bit over 30.

The next 2 rounds with crit and you can see a lot of minions doing crit damage around 35hp which is double 17-19 exactly as it should be.
The only problem it doesn’t write crit with those hits like it does with stones, so it’s not that easy to detect if you don’t know what should happen…

Edit:

And I’m not sure about that.

Those fiends always deal the same amount of damage. Tested it also without any buffs. With atk + and with crit.
It’s exactly the same no matter what.

For reference fiends without any buffs. Same damage.
