Trying to determine the number of global players

Yeah I figured that after you posted about that. It’s FYI anyhow.

Last round in Jan/Feb registered 723,008.
Drop of 20k only.

Thought it would be worse.

Not sure if it’s relevant but this tournament at 2hrs after opening

I got that too. Number is holding for RT.

This is the exact info I was looking for. I expected to see a larger drop this time followed by a flattening because I expected a one time player decrease that pulled forward many players who would quit in the upcoming months.

Same here. I expected an earth shattering decline of at least 50-100k, based on the AA poll results. Only 20k decline.

Let’s see what May numbers are like. Maybe some are biding their time, wait & see, or gone casual, play for fun here & there.

Still too early for AA impact to be felt for general population.

It’s understandable.

  1. 20k is big number already.
  2. Most players don’t track forums etc, so they don’t know the impact of AA in advance, and it will take some time for them to digest the change.
  3. Those 8EHT for 5 dollars deal may be the signal SG has problem with sales that they have to offer such deep discount.

I’d say 25 k is a big enough number when we are talking about a playerbase below 1 million and a constant occurrence. It has been happening for over a year now - always down, never up.

RT registered at least 804k this week. It’s still a healthy enough number. Should sustain this game for awhile.

Yes, that devaluation of the ubiquitous EHT is an ominous sign that all is not well. The newer offers are another ominous sign.

I was half expecting the number to go up!

I don’t know about everyone else. But Mother Nature has been a grippy ■■■■■. Pretty much across the whole country for a couple months now, frigid winds. Bad winds… From coast to coast, the whole country has been getting hammered with weather…
it’s starting to feel like Covid Lockdowns where I live. When all games reported record profits.

Looks like I’m finally getting a nice weekend this weekend! I’m excited to get the tractor going. The kid loves riding on it, and will be good for us both to finally get some sunshine.

So 25k drop in population huh?
I wonder how many started playing?
What if the number of newcomers was bigger than 25k? That would be a big exodus then wouldn’t it! Plus, it’s still so early. People are raiding against a couple 4.9’s and bragging about "no difference". None whatsoever. Didn’t even notice. Can’t feel a thing, lol…

Let the defenses start swinging some serious cash. Some 4.9 new creeps. While the sun is shining, and the beach looks warm and fun.
Let’s see how we do then!

@BlackZed have you looked at SG profits for the last Q of 2022 by chance?

Yes. Need more data to “confirm” a permanent decline due to AA. Some may rejoin. Who knows how this will swing? Early days yet.

Enjoy your nice weather. It turned in SG into a yucky wet muggy phase.

Yeah. Looked at it when it was first released.

From my archives. The full year results for 31/3/23 should be released around May 2023. Should be a net loss for the full year, or break even at best (assuming other golden geese did very well).

Hmmm…yea I saw those. Gonna try to dig up E&P specific numbers. Curious what the change is since the last time I looked at them last summer.

No EP specific numbers. But EP is mentioned as one of the golden geese.

Based on Apple/Google revenue contribution for each golden geese, EP contribution is the biggest.

For sure it is. Apple/Google numbers are one thing. But that doesn’t put the picture together without their web store revenue.

$$$ traffic has been diverted from AG revenue to WS. That does explains the drop in revenue for AG revenue from US$18m in Dec to $15m in January 2023, to a certain extent.

How much of that is due to redirection ? How much to player reduced/no spend ?

The full year results will be released soon. Let’s see those numbers. If it’s a full year loss, Zynga will be pushing even harder for $$$.

This time I finished impossible 1 with 686,105 points and rank 176,515:

Month Tower Finished floor Score Rank
Nov22 Styx Impossible 1 675402 199795
Jan23 Ninja Impossible 1 654052 175267
Feb23 Styx Impossible 1 687679 240332
April23 Ninja Impossible 1 686105 176515

I’m not using any items for these tower events and play casually, without regard to the points.

This time I also took a few screenshots after finishing the impossible1 quest to see how fast other players overtake me.

remaining time Score Rank
68h 686,105 24,022
46h 686,105 101,194
21h 8min 686,105 149,555
0h 12min 686,105 175,811
0 686,105 176,432

Another interesting metric for the number of active players might be the (rough) threshold ranks for the different raid arenas (silver, gold, platinum, diamond)

raid cups 2400 1800 1200 600 0
28.11.21 279415 974575 1377498 1628978
29.09.22 300028 902297
28.01.23 307399 891662 1174959 1358429 1598863 (27 cups)
10.04.23 306630 880162 1156780 1334703 1620300 (17 cups)

edit: I just saw that I mixed up the rank number, or didn’t I?
Rank 176,515 versus rank 176,432.
Both come from screenshots after the event ended…wait, what?

The 176,432 is from the screenshot above where the rewards were distributed. The 176,515 come from my current ranking when I check the ninja tower in the game:

What happened AFTER the event ended and AFTER the rewards were distributed, so that an additional 83 players got in front of me? intensiveheadscratching
