Or: How many summons are needed to get a HOTM?

_Special thanks to @Garanwyn & @zephyr1 for assistance on summoning odds and proofreading for this section.

It’s important to remember that HOTM have very low summoning odds. No amount of summoning will guarantee a HOTM.

On average, in a 10-pull, you have a 12.3% chance of summoning the HOTM.

But that statistic can lead our minds astray in exactly how our odds play out as we continue summoning.

Some useful insights:

  • 73 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 100
  • 95 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 229
  • 99 times out of 100, you’ll get a HOTM by pull 352

Putting that in Perspective

  • 27 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 100th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 100 times, 270,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

  • 5 out of every 100 people won’t get the HOTM by the 229th pull

  • If 1 Million players each summoned 229 times, 50,000 of those players wouldn’t get the HOTM

More Insights & Reading

I highly recommend reading these three threads for more information and context on summoning odds:

If you’ve read them a million times before, you may consider reading them again before deciding on your budget for summoning. A little time spent deciding on how much money you want to risk on summoning goes a long way to avoiding disappointment, frustration, and regret later.

This is the most controversial part of the hero. Makes you wonder why this is even a passive.

I agree Tidyup that’s a weird aspect to the passive. I was excited right up until i read that

However when you consider he bypasses all defensive buffs, means any form of boosted defense will be ignored, so there is that…

I think his resisting mana generation down/ mana stealing or mana block is the best. He will be useful against Elizabeth, Skadi, Onatel and especially the new scary Ferant  @genuineness You will be finally able to fight Ferant :stuck_out_tongue:

I suppose you don’t need an attack buff if he bypasses all defensive buffs, i have a place for him on my roster.

All Hail our new overlord Zagrog! Until they nerph him that is!

I would not put it past them after nerfing Malicna (She’s a poor joke now next to Agrafena)

That’s 2 HOTM in a row that’s a must level. He’s better than the new S4 red that blocks revives imo

I don’t think Zagrog’s passive can resist to Ferant’s direct mana reduction. The card says “This hero has innate resistance against (1) status ailments and negative stacks that affects mana generation. Applies also to (2) status ailments that block mana or (3) steal mana.”

(1) status ailments and negative stacks that affects mana generation. => Telluria, Elizabeth, Boss Wolf, Litttle John, Ruby (except for her direct mana reduction), costumed Lianna, Alasie, costumed Alasie (except for her direct mana reduction), Faline, Treevil, Mist, costumed Carver, Chakkoszrot, Ei-Dunn, costumed Lady of the Lake, costumed Frank and Skadi. And more?

(2) status ailments that block mana => Hel and Proteus. And more?

(3) status ailments that steal mana => Onatel.

As far as I know, direct mana reduction (Freya, Bera, Norn, Mitsuko, Guinevere, Neith, Carol, Ruby, costumed Alasie, Li Xiu, costumed Li Xiu, Carver, Bauchan, Gan Ju, Costumed Gan Ju, Azar, Costumed Azar, Ferant and Lady of the Lake. And more?) is not status ailment or negative stack. So Zagrog can’t resist to it. Am I right?

In addition, Zagrog can’t resist to Gretel, Hansel, Merlin, Alfrike, Peters, Tettukh and Miki. These are not status ailments that affect the mana generation, block mana, and steal mana.

Unless the card says “resist negative mana effects” like Poseidon and Cleric, “resist mana reduction” like Baldur and Seshat, it can’t resist literally.

I don’t know if I’m right. Just my guess.

Thanks! Indeed, Zagrog does not resist direct mana reduction. But Ferant reduces mana only for counterattacks and since Zagrog bypasses his counterattack buff, Ferant will not reduce his mana for using it. Although now that I think about it, he does not have any mana to lose when he uses his special skill

But indeed, he will be vulnerable on mana reduction for direct tile damage.

I still would love to have him! just one please, all I’m asking for is just one …PLEASE…:two_hearts:

BTW, Ferant is very difficult to deal with. I wasted many flags because of Ferant. For me, he is more difficult tanker than Xnolphod, Ludwig, Hannah, Killhare, Bera, Elizabeth or Krampus.

Definitely like the will ignore buffs like counterattack rather than just the chance to do so.

Really good one need to get it

Seems like a plug and play red sniper to me. Given that there arent many of those around(marjana is my only) i’d be happy to have him.

His base atk is on par w/ my +18 marj(1 atk node missed) and rogue is an easy class to get him emblems. Will pair well w/ santa/wilbur and g. Falcon/marjana. Not so well w/ atk boosters a la BT/ Zimkitha. Not gonna chase, but yes plz.

Franz seems a natural ally

I’m honestly not sure about him. That resistance to attack buffs really hurts him.

While in the early days, 430% damage would have been quite decent, it does not hold up today when snipers routinely have damage in the high 400’%s or even 500%'s.

In addition, to really make the mist of his abilities, he needs to bypass buffs.

So now you havea tough choice. You want to boost his damage so he can actually get a kill, but you cannot do so with an attack buff (of which red has many). A defense drop on the other hand, means removing defense buffs he could have bypassed, thereby trading extra damage for the mana to fire more frequently.

…and then there is Captain Nemo who get’s along with his 300%… In direct comparison, Zagrog is a red beast.
