The biggest reason that I raid is to practice tile manipulation. The reward of a massive cascade really tickles me. Second to that is playing with hero synergy.

I raid to fill my chest and get ham. I’m at a point where I can fill 3 raid chests a day, only with revenges and I’m only full on Raid Energy when I wake up.

I raid to fill the chest and to practice hero combinations (and to yell at my phone when a bad board comes up).
I raid for the chests. Raids to me are kind of boring. I have been playing for a long time and have good heroes. With a 3/2 strategy, it is very difficult for me to lose a raid. I guess I am in the minority, but I actually wish raids were more challenging. I hope for more fun from the new raid challenges once they go live.
