I can’t help but think that if the player response to “we made the challenge harder and the rewards worse” is “the players burned more resources and spent more money,” that the result will only be an acceleration in the game continuing to make challenges harder for worse rewards.

Now that was about CoK, and CC doesn’t actually have worse rewards, just marginally better for a significantly harder challenge (plus, this difficulty creep—or rush—affects the players who arguably most could use S1 updates)….

…but those caveats aside, this whole discussion (here and notably elsewhere) is sounding kinda familiar.
