The family links only work with unique heroes- 2 of the same hero 2 won’t activate the family link.

Why not? What the reason?

Because that’s how it works. Duplicates do not trigger the family bonus. It’s written like that (at least in the English version) when you tap on the family bonus of the card.

As per @Murphy the card states unique heroes.

I guess it’s supposed to encourage interesting teams
