Hmm, food for thought. I have found that the game self adjusts fairly rapidly. Kill three Titans with 4 hours to spare and your fourth will be one level higher. Conversely, kill a Titan with less than 4 hours to spare and your next one will be the same level.
Timing of kill has no impact as confirmed by devs

It’s not intended for you to kill every Titan unless you can kill 10 stars consistently. The game stretches you’re team so you have to improve.
