Maybe I’m dumb but what does tank even mean in this context. Because I read this as target and nearby enemies. And the nearby enemies are the adjacent enemies

Frankly, spawning for the entire team would merely pull her up to “decent” IMO.
I am not arguing if she is good or bad, its just your arguments don’t make sense.
In your example, if your point is that if a player wants to fire carol and trigger her bombs, then the just go and kill her target in the same turn, right?
Well this means that her mana cut means nothing. Only thing left is the damage she does with her bombs, right? So, in the situation zathrus mention was when there was no tank. This means that carol fired on a target and one neighbor, but since you killing the target with your other heroes, the bomb only hits the neighbor and does no damage to anyone else. So a total of 312 damage, which I agree is weak.
I think Scarlett is much better than Carol. Scarlett has much higher tile damage, much more than Carol. She does same damage as Carol to the target. Her splash damage is little less than Carol which is about half of carol but her tile damage compensates much more than that.
Plus people here are neglecting her attack debuff of 6 turns to 3 heroes. That alone reduces the incoming damage by snipers significantly. Carol’s Mana cut is not much useful as it can be undone even small cascade in to the target in the very next turn.
Also, since Scarlett’s damage is not a fixed damage, she has very good synergy with Boldtusk and Wilbur which carol does not have.
Tank in this context, and in most meaningful contexts in this game, means the central hero in a five hero defense. The hero that takes the three central tile columns in terms of damage, and generally dies first.
So if the central hero (aka Tank) is out, you have two pairs of heroes left (left wing and flank one side, right wing and flank the other side) and accordingly no matter who you target there is only one adjacent hero. That is one of the fundamental mechanics of the game that makes hit 3 type heroes a little weaker
I pulled Carol and was grateful for the it, because my Christmas set is complete, but I think her design is one of the worst this game has ever created. Compare her with Jack from Halloween and it seems like a bad joke. Carol has the weaker of the the two abilities and she is on a completely different tier (four star rather than three). She needs to be overhauled completely, because she sucks as of right now.
I am truly seeing this at a different angle of this. First of all, thank you for really making me understand what this tank fiasco is about. But this doesn’t change anything about my points, it just clears a misunderstanding. You see, my version of carol is vastly different from anyone’s perception of her. All I care is whether I can destroy the bomb as fast as possible, anything like hitting one of two targets at most is irrelevant to me.
I really don’t care whether the tank is dead and you can only hit 1 target at the wings with bomb damage. And this if the tank is dead, my situation from the start has always been about a full Defence team. At the end of the day, even the 312 damage is insignificant to me, as long as that splash damage assists me in killing the other targets (like at the wings), that is all that matters.
This also makes me think that carol’s bomb is much more suited at aiming at the flanks, so if you can kill the flank, you soften the health of the tank too
In fact she is made even more versatile now when I think about it. Because she can cut mana, she is very useful against enemies on the wings, I should know because I mained Chao in my early days. Aiming a 25% mana cut at the wings on crucial turns has saved me countless of times back in those days. If the wing is left, she can turn her supporting attack role into clean up.
I’m glad you have a plan to use her and you are happy with her. She isn’t very strong in my opinion and needs a buff, but that doesn’t mean she is totally useless - just underwhelming
Exactly, I have never said she is good. I said she is not as bad as people think she is. Every hero has their own mechanics to work with. No hero can kill an entire team alone and they need others to support and work together as a team
She should give the bomb to all not just three

What you don’t understand is the following. You want to bring Carol in for her bomb damage but for that to happen you should explode the bomb by killing the hero you planted it on, right? You mentioned you’d do this with 2 snipers. Now you planted the bomb, kill the target and ideally the two adjacent targets get damaged by the bomb.
INSTEAD OF CAROL YOU COULD BRING A THIRD SNIPER TO HURT ANOTHER HERO MORE THAN YOU CAN WITH HER GIMMICKY BOMBS.
She’s just not good.
furthermore carol is not a character suited for christmas…How can you plant a bomb on xmas day? they should just make her like buddy then all will be enthusiast to get her…
If the argument is Carol over say Marjana or any 5 star sniper this isn’t much of a discussion. If we compare Carol to other four star snipers, Carol’s bomb damage can deal more total damage.
I linked to a raid test I did comparing Carol’s 312 bomb damage to three to other four star fast snipers.
I stand by the evaluation that she’s not great by any means, but can still find a fit in a team.
I was gonna say, this whole back and forth here misses the fact that the opportunity cost to fielding Carol, is you give up on using a potentially far superior hero.
I have a good bench of 4*s, and I just can’t fathom a single scenario in which I would want to bring Carol over someone like Gormek or Scarlett or even Falcon.
I actually said that at least twice.
Depending on what heroes are involved, I could even see taking a top tier 3 over her. Without emblems.
I don’t have a third sniper that’s too powerful. If that’s that case I can get 3 snipers, a carol and someone else. Carol can assist those 3 snipers in maximising their damage output. In fact any hitter she can assist. I chose snipers because they hit hard but can only hit one target. I’m looking at splash damage that can soften health for my snipers to kill more efficiently
In that case wouldn’t someone like Gormek be even more useful? He does some damage, and gives a defense debuff, which means even your tiles start doing more damage in addition to skills.
Or if in the context of running a mono team, Falcon could potentially work better since he gives a bigger debuff. BT+Gormek/Falcon+3 snipers = half the team is dead and the remaining severely wounded after everybody fires. Still don’t see who Carol would replace in that case.
Yeah and I’m not denying it. Which is why I mentioned with @Zathrus before even defence debuffers like Grimm (or the pulverising trio for that matter) would have destroyed my argument from the start. Even Mist does a way better job at what carol is even attempting
