Should I ascend Xnolphod or Quartz for this team?

This is a question for my alt account so let me explain. I think Xnolphod is generally a better hero, but I’m considering Quartz based on certain factors. Right now the 5* team I am running on defense (and the only 5*s I have levelled up) are:

Morel - Mok-Arr - Octros - Director Zuri - C. Francine

I have enough tabards to ascend a purple hero now but I want to replace Mok-Arr (sitting at 3/70 but originally was the only 5* purple I had). I know it’s not necessary to have two healers in a team but right now they are still my best options. If I go with Xnolphod then the 20% mana gain could be useful (but I’d have two direct healers and also I won’t have emblems for him as Director Zuri has them), where as if I go with with Quartz I have the attack up and HoT as well as free emblems to almost max his talent (but I’ll also have 3 cleansing heroes in the team that may be overkill). Lastly, I do have Viscaro as a third option but I just feel like the other two heroes are generally more useful once my roster grows.

Let me know what you think, or please vote below!

  • Xnolphod
  • Quartz
  • Viscaro

Xnol is pretty much the most feared hero on any defense. He’s the go to squid.

I guess the question though is a unemblemed Xnolphod still more deadly than a fully emblemed Quartz? Or then again, if Xnolphod is THAT good, I could probably just emblem him INSTEAD of Director Zuri haha. Also I felt like Quartz brings in some extra utility with the +attack.

Xno depends a lot on what heroes he has around. And depending in which “league” you fight, emblems can make indeed a lot of difference. At the level your alt is though, I am wondering though if you should invest more the emblems on the 4*?!

I think either would be useful and I would focus more on what you need in general for your offense than this current defense.

mana is the key to this game. the faster all ur heroes charge, the more likely u gonna win.

while mr x is average, but after he charges ur entire team will enjoy the mana boost

Xnolphod, 100%

He’s the better of the two and very useful.

Side argument: cRigard is cheaper AND better than Quartz. Your alt account may not have cRigard yet, but I would wager that tabards are a bigger factor than that. Again, Xnolphod is a premium hero, and is affective on most team combinations.

I don’t have maxed Quartz to compare with, but here are my 2 cRigards. The one with (+20) grids was done pre-costumes and went defense/HP path for emblems

The (+17) Rigard is emblemed defense/HP for his costume’s path

I have invested emblems into 4* as well but I usually like to max out and emblem my defense team first (since that stays constant at this stage) and then usually the rest will go to 3* and 4* and whoever else is useful to me. But I see your point and I should definitely be thinking more about offense for sure, thanks for the advice!

Okay thank you, point taken. You’re right that cRigard does a very similar job to Quartz (other than not being able to cleanse at VF) and definitely a lot cheaper to ascend. It’s possible I may get him down the track so while I build up my mats I’ll probably go with Xnolphod since he’s just way better

PS - I’m super jealous of your cRigards, he’s the only 4* costume I have failed to pull on my main even after hundreds of costume summons. I’m probably done trying to pull him since the odds are so low since I don’t need anyone else haha

Makes total sense, thank you! Mana is indeed so important and I’ve often lost because of his squid letting off his special :joy:

You’re welcome! I’m kind of sad too-- I actually managed to pull Quartz, and he may always be at 1^1, because I may quite literally never touch him

Good luck pulling cRigard, I sincerely hope you manage him! :crossed_fingers:
