I doubt highly that my alliance has ever met another alliance a second time, let alone third!!!

These are two of the top alliances in the game. The higher up you are the fewer matchups are available and the more often you face the same alliance.
Where my alliance sits there are probably thousands to choose from so it would take years to repeat.
