I like the idea, but if I’m understanding your proposal - only using like levels of Ascension Materials (AM) - you would still build large numbers of the lesser AM.
I don’t think I would convert a highly rare AM because as soon as I did I would surely need it for my next ascension… an endless cycle.
Maybe allow conversion of reasonably large numbers of the lesser AM into the higher level ones. I have over 600 of a specific single star item; if they’re not going to be used for crafting, they’re a useless resource (for now cuz maybe later they will be needed?).

Or just sell unwanted items and ingredients for ham and wood;)
I would want the game to make this available after a certain level; after you have knowledge that all those “useless” items might be actually very useful down the line. I can use 600 Swords, for example. I have 1831 Rugged Clothes though. I’d like to exchange those!
I don’t really care about being able to exchange farmable items even though I have a completely ridiculous number of common herbs; what I really want from this is being able to convert ascension items I don’t need (trap tools) to ones I do (shields).
This idea directly addresses the RNG factor (which really isn’t that engaging) of not only having a rare drop, but also a 1/7 chance roughly of not being the drop you actually need. Bad math, should be easier, this idea would make it easier.

I definitely would not mind making something useful out of this stuff. Mix in @Revelate 's common herbs, and we’re in business
I do like the idea of exchange “like for like”, Shields for trap tools or magic orbs, etc.

Ditto. Even at a 2:1 ratio, or at an extra payment of gems. That is, two orbs can get you a shield, or perhaps instead an orb and 500 gems for a shield.
Amazing idea for alchemy lab! I think it’s wonderful and for sharing your idea of they use it perhaps you should get a small reward! I would love to have that on my board! Great idea Juzam!!!
Similar to what I was thinking of using farmable items but at the high end.
To start; Use the Forge.
No need to try to wedge in another building. Modify the existing capabilities. This would be no more complex than if a new item were added to the game. Maybe less.
Use it to convert farm items.
Just to throw out some examples:
xx number of common herbs could make 1 potent leaf
xx number of leather armor make 1 shield
xx number of manuals make battle manual
This uses the model of converting similar items.
Different items research at increasing levels. Existing maxed out players should get a break and not need to do ALL research times, only AM.
AM would be at the higher forge levels and the ingredients would no doubt be more complex.

Sounds good at long as it’s not too complicated or too prohibitive! Because the simple truth is that there is too much surplus! It’s not just ascension items, it’s crypt mushrooms and strings… It should be simple and reasonable to convert excess surplus to wanted materials!
Excellent idea! I have a metric TON of useless ascension items and loot by the HUNDREDS! Breaking them down and repurposing them or combining them to make RARE items is a FANTASTIC idea!
I thought my surplus was surplus until I leveled my Forge. Then I found out that Oil, Crude Iron, Crystal Shard and others were valuable.
Leveling my Training Camp, I found that Rugged Clothes were useful…who knew?
