In today’s instance we are switching into old PVP metas, focusing on one of the heroes that changed minds of people, making them realise that status effects sometimes can surpass raw damage, Blood-Stained Druid himself - Gravemaker
This hero managed to elude me on 4 accounts for ever! I still don’t have him on the 2 I have remaining.
Let’s get into this: Did you use Gravemaker? Do you still use this hero? - Never used him. Never had him. Really wanted him
Your memories with this hero, either fighting with and against (only no costume version) - Fighting against him when he first hit was a daunting task to say the least. The speed and DoT were difficult to deal with. Once the T and V were added into the mix it just got a tad silly. He was unavoidable and I felt everyone had him except me
How Gravemaker stand compared to newer 5 heroes?* - What? Like against today’s lot? He’s a puppy dawg. Barely worth worrying about for me these days. Hs’s Muzzled by Garnet let alone the rest
Is Gravemaker still worth using? - Depends. Early game? Sure. Challenge events? Yeah. Actually, PvE as a whole? yeah. Raids? Costumeless? Mid to late game? Good luck with that
Let’s imagine GM will get 2nd costume or rework - what would you like to see? - Oooh… now there’s a question. To be fair his current costume does enough. Any subsequent costumes would just be about buffing those outdated stats
General opinion about Gravemaker. - Once the Undisputed King of the flanks. A terror for sure. Even on the wing he could cause some serious burn to your team and had to be taken seriously. Now he’s little more than a slight annoyance with costume. The only annoying thing is the dispel passive. Too many things to counter him these days. He’s simply another hero. Nothing to worry about. Just someone to beat. How the mighty have fallen.
Never had him. He was a nightmare during the Telly Vela days as i lacked any worthwhile blues. He can still catch you off guard even nowadays. His very fast DOT can melt you quick when you have a bad luck board.
That being said, i dont see him very often lately, and he never really put the “skip team” fear into me like the owls, goblins or elves do.
Never had this hero. But i got a lot of respect for him. He was very scary to face back in the days. Today he is just meh but this doesn’t take out of his glory. Shortly - old star.
Oh my goodness… I had to really dig down in my roster to find this treasure!
Finally got him in 2020, he was part of my defense for a long time, he was paired with several different tanks, Heimdall, Sif and Freya last one I remember, I had gotten his costume right away when it was released. Last time I used him on defense, Freya was my tank with Frigg and can’t remember the healer
Stopped using him altogether when Season 5 heros started getting stronger & stronger…
He was a must have hero in his day and I was so pround to have been blessed with him.

I got my GM from an Atlantis portal summon, something like a year after his release, and by time I got him leveled and ascended… he wasn’t The King, but he was very often still just useful, He didn’t win fights, but he was almost always pitching in by quickly popping out enough Burn to help.
Pretty sure he was at least my first non-S1 5*, and just about the only 5* the Atlantis portal has ever coughed up for me. Never had the infamous GTV combo (though I did get Vela at release and got to watch her get nerfhammered because of another hero, “fun”).
Rationally, I should probably claw back his LB1 especially as there is no reasonable likelihood of me ever being able to get his costume**, but I’m not sure I can quite make myself do it.
** (Sure, sometimes ToL has had his costume listed, but when am I ever going to voluntarily pick cGM as a featured hero over one of the überChampions? I suppose I COULD get him off 5* non-featured pull… or hypothetically be able to choose him in SE for his costume shenanigans… but it seems unlikely.)
I feel like Natalya — whom I got only much later from SE — has arguably aged better, with her uncleansable ailments including a hefty mana debuff.
I got him when he was hotm. He was my first red 5 star, and the last color I needed for a 5 star rainbow defense. We ended up running red tanks and he was mine. This was pre-Telly. He was a monster and the forum screamed for nerfs. Oh, those were the days…
When I drop cups I will roll out my GTV defense with Sesh and Drake on the wings. All 4/80, no costume. I even put out my level 23 mana troops instead of legendaries. Let some newer people see what it was like.

Actually I have (but uncostumed)! I got him from the very first Tavern. He was losing his shine already at this very moment, but I was using him A LOT. Now I am still using him, as I am F2P, but I see he is way weaker than he used to be

Like people already said, undisputed king of defence flank, hard to pass on his prime, but still felt more fair than current cards. Hate fighting against, loved playing with him, but, yeah. We all know what comes after but.
How Gravemaker stand compared to newer 5* heroes?
For now? Exactly the same old heroes were standing comparing to him, maybe even less. To paraphrase The Emperor’s New Clothes, “The King is naked”.

If you are not F2P, only for collectible purpose. Otherwise sadly not.

I don’t think there is anything that will bring his glory back, unless costume would be stupidligly OP.
General opinion about Gravemaker.
One of the heroes which portrait in a gold frame is hanging in Empires & Puzzles hall of fame. GM taught us the power of status effects. He was considered OP, but looking back in time it was fair kind of OP, I mean, he was strong as heck, but you were always able to do something, even with bad starting tiles.
Even in this topic people are kinda refuse to tell he is bad now. We all know this, but no one really wants to say it out loud. We just look at this card and sigh with respect.
Glad you wrote this, though it makes me even more sad my only memories with him are bad (still don’t have him, but boy, did he kick my butt in the past). Still go against him carefully, the few times I see him
I always wanted GM, started playing a few months before he was the HOTM. I got Gregorion instead. Oh well …
He was a beast for a good few years, first teamed with Guinevere and then later as part of GTV. The first truly dominant hero, as evidenced by his two years as the top pick in the top 100 defence teams. Unfortunately the Titan Mafia site that tracked that has disappeared.
Finally I had a chance to pick him in SE #1 and took Skadi instead.

@Not-important he was one of the very first heroes people were crying for a nerf, every good defence had him on flank, I think GM stopped being dominant somewhere in 2021? Something like that.
The funny part is the oldest players remembers that he was considered weak at release, because it was time when people only looked at raw damage. GM was the hero that made people understands power of status effects more.

How I hated him back in the GTV days! (Of the three, I only had Telluria, who was nerfed to oblivion, but I digress.)
I did finally get him and maxed him, even put 18 levels of emblems on him (was he in a Soul Exchange?, or just randomly in a pull where he was there?), but I seldom pull him out to use him, since I don’t have the costume and haven’t level-broken him.
Yes, got him when his costume came out. Not anymore, as my other fire heroes simply outclass him.
He was the missing piece to my GTV line, as I pulled Telly and Vela when they were HotMs. But I rarely used the base version.
He’s a 4* compared to the new heroes that we have. It hurt to put him on the bench, even at LB1, but the base stats and specials were miniscule.
Sure. Very fast with a nice burn ailment. I’d still use him over Emilio, but not over Doxan.
He got the Ghost Rider look in his first costume. I’m thinking Human Torch for the second. As far as stats, go to hit 3, but with higher damage and either huge burn but short duration or decent burn with longer duration and uncleansable.
Great hero back in the day, but today, not much of a tickle. He’s still very usable, but not gonna scare anyone in today’s game. He’s like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, scary but so cute.
