Advice for New Players, or "All the things I wish someone had told me when I first started."

I see lots of posts here from newer players expressing many of the same frustrations I felt when I first started playing. After nearly a year, I’ve learned a few things, and I’d like to pass them on to hopefully save others from these frustrations. Progress is designed to be slow whether you spend money or not.
