So this morning something happened. It seems that my past decisions have finally caught up to me. Sounds like a movie thing, doesn’t it? Nothing terrible, I can assure you.
So not really paying attention to the calendar (once again), just noticed the Sand Empire event just started. I know it was coming because of the recent update discussions, just didn’t know when it was actually starting. But after spending a good half an hour wondering and facepalming on how god terrible Yunan and Rana’s costumes designs are, I play this game for the pretty pictures, after all and I have never been as disappointed with any of this game’s new hero designs or costumes as I have with these two and I really wish I could un-see them, but alas I couldn’t.
A quick chat with an alliance mate revealed that she found them awkward too, the same alliance mate told me she just spent some EHTs on her pulls and got Gafar, who was new to her and was asking for opinions of him, not having Gafar on the roster means I couldn’t say much. Then I remember I had some EHTs lying around, and say, hey, I will pop one in just to start things off a bit. Purple flashed, um what. Then that “something” happened.
No, it’s not Rana and her gawd awful costume design, but it was Gafar, the Vizir of Sand Empire, the Bishop piece to the chess set, a new hero and one of the ones I am missing and had wanted (Read some posts up and you would see my post about getting Jabbar, but wanted Gafar), that design reminded me of Jafar from Aladdin, the same Gafar that was just in the same conversation with my alliance mate 5 minutes prior, and that of which fills up my roster to 105 and…
I ran out of roster spaces and was only slightly halfway towards my next level up that would give me additional roster spaces. Which means… Roster Purchase or not.
A few things can happen when roster spaces are full. One, your playing through the game, especially on PvE comes to a screeching halt with road blocks and obstacles setup. Every level you play, as long as they can potentially drop loot, will have that roster full message and asks you if you want to keep fighting any way that you have to click to confirm. You can, with that extra tap of that button, but you just won’t get any more feeders (except for troops) post battle. Second, perhaps the most binding of all, means you can’t collect any more feeders from TC or HA (because they are not summons) unless you have enough roster space again, so your growth to a hero would rely upon summoned heroes, which means perhaps once a day (via free daily summon, if you don’t pull troops). I don’t think I can tolerate that kind of encumbrance.
So, where the vast majority of the player base would not have had a second thought of popping in the gems for additional roster spaces, for the first time in 3.5 years, I spent 50 gems to buy 5 additional roster spaces.
Oh, this Roster Masochist felt dirty and ashamed afterwards…
I am not buying any more for the time being, and with 5 spaces and slightly more wiggle room, I can probably level up specials better and don’t have to feed one hero every time I got one (I am still doing it for today out of force of habit and will probably take me a while to stop), and aside from pre-scripted loot drops (like getting a trainer hero at the end of trials plus a random feeder hero), I will likely get more than 1 feeder hero a map level in some cases.
So there you have it, not a HoTM, a S3 or S4 hero that made this happen, but Gafar… He’s so sneaky, that one…
Until next time.
