Improve war themes so they are not so generic and a larger variety of tanks and heroes get used

Tournaments are a success in the sense that players use a larger variety of heroes than they would otherwise. And because of tournaments, there is a much larger variety in heroes that have talents. This is because of the themes of each tournament as well as restricted colors and rarity.

Wars could be more interesting if there were buffs, debuffs, or restrictions, and these modifiers were more flavorful. Modifiers to battle would force players to use a larger variety of characters and would make battles more interesting and challenging.

I think it would be interesting to strengthen or weaken heroes based on CLASSES! This would lead to an even bigger variety in heroes used to tank or attack.

You could even have a set of conditions that buff or debuff certain families of the Atlantis family! Or the new families based on events!

Here is an example of some fantasy conditions:

  • You’re On Your Own: A war with no field support for the defense
  • Undead Plague: Clerics and Paladins get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation
  • Anarchy: Barbarians and Rogues get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation
  • Mystic Surge: Sorcerers and Wizards get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation
  • Natural Disaster: Druids and Rangers get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation
  • Martial Law: Fighters and Monks get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation
  • The King is Dead: Raid attacks have only 4 attackers and raid defense has 4 defenders and no tank
  • The Last Survivors: Raid defense has only three defenders but they start the battle with +50% attack, +50% defense, +50% health, +10% mana generation

Here are other examples mostly based on weather conditions:

  • Famine: Mana speed decreases by one step
  • Drought: All heroes health decreases by 20%
  • Snow Storm: Blues heroes get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation, red heroes get -20% attack/defense and -5% mana generation
  • Heat Wave: Red heroes get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation, blue heroes get -20% attack/defense and -5% mana generation
  • Pestilence: Purple heroes get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation, yellow heroes get -20% attack/defense and -5% mana generation
  • Witch Hunt: Yellow heroes get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation, purple heroes get -20% attack/defense and -5% mana generation
  • Floods: Green heroes get +20% attack/defense and +5% mana generation
  • Fire: Green heroes get -20% attack/defense and -5% mana generation

These are just some quick examples, with classes and colors, SG could get really creative!!

It’s possible there could be multiple battlefield conditions in play as well.

It’s better to buff or debuff heroes instead of restricting heroes because of the following reasons:

  • Some players just don’t want to change their defensive lineup, no matter what.
  • Some players have developed a certain tank or defensive lineup and don’t want to change it, no matter what.
  • Some players forget or don’t have time to change their defensive lineup and wars happen regardless of a player’s attentiveness

For these reasons, buffing or debuffing is a better solution than restrictions.

At the very least I’d like to see some wars have the same parameters as the raid tournament (with the exception of rarity). So color restrictions and buff booster, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this.

Yeah, sure, I’m game.

Magic night or poison mist, or underwater. Should be implemented aswel

I’d like it, too.

Maybe sth very similar to my field diversity suggestion.

This is a sweet idea. I’d be game.

It gets boring facing blue tanks everytime and running out of green heros. Spice it up, force people to think.

This sounds fun. Variety is a good thing!

Yes, it’s similar to your suggestion but expanded. I actually voted on your idea.

One difference though is that I don’t think it’s a good idea to outright ban a color for war. It creates too many issues. I think it would make people mad if they didn’t check their lineups and found that they were missing their tank because yellow was banned and their tank was removed from their team defense.

I don’t think we need this variety for all wars, but if the war on Saturday was non-vanilla, I think it would give people time to adjust to any roster changes and it would be really interesting. I think if they did anything it would break the monotony seeing the same tanks again and again.

I liked the idea and had already thought of something like that too. But I think it has to be a little less “elaborate” than that, because few players will be able to put together a good strategy along these lines that you put. The example of the defense having no advantage is a good idea because it doesn’t benefit anybody in particular, benefiting one element also liked it so that players might wonder if it would be good to just put that benefited element or merge with others. Anyway, I liked your suggestion.

I kinda like your idea for a little more diversity. Don’t think it would fly every week for AW when alliances are competing for rank and some of the casual alliances would have a really tough time getting everyone to adjust there teams. But, maybe your idea could work for say a month long alliance war tourney ( sort of like March Madness in basketball). Fighting a war everyday ( with one of your random f-Ed up boosters) in an elimination contest til there is one alliance left. Maybe hold that type a thing 3-4 times a year ( give out some crappy loot tiers) just for the bragging rights and fun of it. Might be a great way to fill in “the gap” between seasons, create a final 100 board on the forumns when it gets down to it… too promote the community thing with more players etc. Etc.

How about adding a no dispel option… similar to no heal.

Possibilities would be endless. You could do all female/male/undead/animal. One defender/attacker of each 1-5*. S1,S2 only… okay not endless I just ran out of ideas but a whole bunch more You all can think of as well.

It took over a year for us to finally have wars on a regular scheduled basis

Any changes will screw that up

So they better be good ones lol

Yeah, it could be really gonzo. I would be OK with that but I’m not sure everyone would.

It’s a game with fantasy heroes… I’m sure your right someone would be offended but it would be hard to take that serious. We do have a Polar Bear dressed in armor and an active debate of Mikis gender ( not sure how but we do). So, not sure anyone has a serious complaint that would be nothing more then a reason too complain.

I like this idea. 20 characters… sigh

Bump. Would like to see more variety in wars, especially in the tanks we use. You don’t have to use these specific ideas, it could

And themes would be nice too, having a mechanical effect would be nice, but even visual would be nice. Like below.

Certainly, I’d like to see Class matter more in terms of a restriction or bonus on play. It’s the obvious choice for encouraging diversity of Heroes.

Currently, the only time we care about Class is when choosing a team for a Trials quest. At all other times, what we care about is the associated Talent (eg. Evade > Jinx). Wars that gave bonuses to specific Classes on a rotating basis would be fantastic… and you’d start seeing much wider diversity in play.

Come to think of it, why not the opposite of Trials? In Trials, two Classes cooperate. For Wars, thematically, you could have two Classes oppose each other. A HP bonus for one Class on defence, and an ATT bonus for a different Class of attack.

The more that I think about it, whatever change they do to wars, I think players now need to opt in, like tournaments. At least they can’t claim they didn’t know the rules when they set their defenses.

If you make them opt in, it will be less confusing for the players, and less frustrating for alliance leaders. It also helps solve the problem of inactive players always being opted into war.
