How to get the most out of E&P misfit heroes - Detailed write ups of Myztero, Zulag, Ares, Baldur, Noor, Rafaelle (others to be added)

Excellent choice. I don’t have her but I have read about people using her special to utilise G Jackal and strong yellow teams in order to get 80K+ hits on yellow titans with mono yellow teams. I would definitely do this if I ever got her as my yellow titan team is pants. Her attack stat is very high, almost as high as Musashi’s, so the hit itself is very decent

Thanks for that write-up. We run red tanks in war and the best I have is Gefjon, who is not really tank material. I was thinking of using him as tank, but will also give him a try in the wings in regular raid defense. Whenever 3 more sets of rings come my way.

Please never subject my defense to your death by a zillion cuts team. It is too cruel a death

Fair. I was speaking in generalities, but certainly there are exceptions. That would make perfect sense.

Close to my intended use, but I lack Grimble. Quintus fills in for Grimble and Domitia would be a 4th if I mono to snipe off a tough enemy,

I don’t normally mono, but boosting mana with her ability may make me mono in purple a lot more .

:beers:

I wonder, does anyone get any use out of Perseus?

Well, well, well… My team for yellow titans is also quite bad (with Cheshire Cat being the only specialist, and maybe Khiona), while for purple titans I have all of them: Jackal, White Rabbit, even c.Leonidas. Of course Wu too. Putting Norns to the mix instead of chasing Guardian Panther sounds like a very tempting idea…

Before I got Panther my yellow titan team was cRigs-Tibs-Ursena-Jabberwock-Clarissa. You have Khiona instead of the Wock, but their attack stat is very similar, and her berserk is way better for titans than Jabber’s dual swipe.

I’m not going to say it was the bestest team ever but I got decent enough hits. Titan is all about tile damage so basically just put whichever purple hero has the highest attack stat into your team. Cheshire Cat is ok but his attack is kinda low; certainly lower than normal Tibs. Yes it’s -44% vs -34% defense, but it also lasts two turns less so give and take I suppose.

We have a yellow titan today, so gonna try c.Rigard, Tibs, Khiona, Ursena, Clarissa. It’s true that my Tibs+20 has a visible higher tile dmg than Cat+6.
But I’m not joking about trying a yellow team for yellow titans, with White Rabbit, c.Leonidas/Jackal, Norns, Wu and someone else on board. It costs me some mana potions in the beginning and that it’s.

Putting another hero to this mix: costume Horghall

We all know that Horghall is a synonym for a weak (the weakest) legendary hero in the game. I saw many times people saying that costume didn’t bring much value as well. However, I disagree strongly with this statement. Horghall was the first 5* I pulled and maxed, and when I pulled his costume I thought it’s the most logical thing to do to max it as well.

In the end, it turned out c.Horghall really shines on multiple occasions, easily becoming my MVP. This morning I used him in a raid against a super strong defence, and remebered it would be nice to share few thoughts here.

  1. C.Horghall can shut down any hard hitter you can imagine in this game. In PvP world he has a small drawback being slow, but it really doesn’t matter if the front line of defence is relatively passive, like in this morning’s example:

And this is the effect, on fully charged Onyx+20:

Or, one older example against c.Lianna+18 (and with the help of c.Melendor’s defence buff):

Overall, I have started to use him more and more in PvP lately, especially after bringing on board few mana speed buffers, like Ariel and Brynhild. He was also great on map stages, quests, because it doesn’t matter how hard they hit c.Horghall makes their hits almost negligible.

  1. Special note to rush attack rule: c.Horghall is in my best team for these wars and tourneys. With lvl5 mana troop he needs just 6 tiles - to counter any dmg that may come from the other side. He is additional insurance policy if mana controler like Proteus can’t be charged quickly. With those 6 tiles c.Horghall gives you enough time to work on the board as long as you need to turn the tide.

  2. Ninja tower: I use him on last 5-10 levels. With the blessings he becomes practically fast, so yeah… Those ninjas can’t hurt you at all. I put my health boosters Heimdall and Gullinbursti in there and honestly, I feel like I can’t lose. Although, it should be noted that I’m not going for the highest score. This strategy may not be optimal if you’re fighting for the leaderboard.

There is no such thing as a misfit
Until your roster grows,
and proves otherwise

I would make a case for Baldur.

First, there is a good fit between his stats, class and role. As a Ranger, it is easy to get his atk extremely high with emblems (at +18 his atk is 921 for me). This is especially important because common green tanks, such as telluria or heimdall, are pretty sturdy so killing them with tiles takes high atk stacks. It also means his damage output is decent from his special - in the 200-300 range against most 5* heroes, but rising to more than 450 with c marjana debuff. When you factor in the 1000 overheal, his overall contribution in any given raid is often the highest of any hero in terms of damage dealt + healing given. Also, the ranger class has the mana bonus at node 8 which is important if you have a mana troop between lvl17-22, since mana-breaking him down to 9 tiles is huge - I run him with c marjana and tyr so having them charge together is nice. The mana troop benefits his healing too. Lastly, the pierce ability is well-suited to his special.

Now, the downside of that analysis is that he doesn’t fit the current meta which is to hit hard and fast and focus fire to kill enemy heroes. Baldur is about attrition so he needs to be paired with other heroes who can stay the course (which is why I like him with tyr).

I’ve read elsewhere that he he doesn’t swing the result of raids, that he only helps you win raids that you would have won anyway. I have to disagree. A very common situation is finding yourself midway through a raid with 2-3 heroes dead on each side and desperately ghosting tiles before the enemies fire their specials. Often the surviving enemy heroes are dangerous snipers and you don’t dare send any tiles into them. That’s the situation where Baldur shines - the steady stream of hits tips the balance in your favour.

Apart from raids, the auto fire is very useful for PvE - both in farming and challenges when he will mop up surviving monsters without you having to waste tiles or specials.

Finally, there is the mana cut resistance - it doesn’t matter very often but when it does (eg to resist bera/Freya, or neith or LOTL) it is very satisfying.

I don’t see him as a good defensive hero - a decent attacker will know how to neutralise him. But he did do well for me in a buff booster tournament.

Just a PS to the above - another reason I like baldur is that he is one of the very few heroes that actually make me play better. What I mean is that the security of knowing that he will do some damage makes it easier to ignore cheap matches that will likely mess up the board and rather look a few moves ahead to set up good positions. That’s all psychology of course and if I were a better player it would be irrelevant. But insofar as there is skill in this game, a lot comes down to board manipulation so any aspect that improves that side of things is welcome.

I use Sonya +20 over him( Perseus )

Myztero

He is almost universally hated and seen to have a flawed mechanic. I don’t know how much of this is due to him being touted as a “secret” (he isn’t) hero from with “super-rare” pulling odds (he doesn’t, really - more or less the same for any other non-HOTM, non-S1 hero) but there is definitely a strong hatred towards him with many thinking he is unusable without a buff.

I have found him useful in almost every war I have been in, and he has a very high win rate when used against the right team. This part is important. He is a niche hero, which is a dirty word to some - but not to me. In fact I think all heroes should be “niche”, it would make for a more varied and interesting game.

Oomph factor
Huge. He is one of the most fun heroes to playu in the game. This often gets overlooked but is important as first and foremost this is a GAME

Comparison to similar heroes
His special is simmilar to Lady Loki’s but has the following distinct advantages:

  • Very fast, giving flexibily on when to fire
  • Any ailments he has are cast back to everyone
  • Dispellable ailments can be cast back
  • Any ailments cast back are cast back for full duration

His weakness vs Lady Loki are:

  • Weaker hit - don’t rely on this to get kills in most circumstances. Becomes more useful when able to ghost tiles and when can be buffed by C Rig
  • Does not cleanse first
  • Has to be hit himself, rather than any ailment affecting the team

Stats, Embleming
In his non-emblemed form he is attack heavy and defense weak, so I would not recommend ascending him unless you intend to give him at least some emblems to make him more sturdy. He has to be hit - and to survive the hits - to be useful. Mine is at +19 and has 818 defense and 1551 and generally outlasts his team if things go wrong.

Team configuration
The only requirement is to have a cleanser on the team as Myztero’s special doesn’t cleanse. C Rigard is perfect as he is purple and 3 tiles behind Myztero. If both are ready to fire then do C Rigard first so the hit from Myztero is harder. The cleanse will not erase Myztero’s memory. An alternative option is to run him with a blocker like Grazul or Garnet - not as effective in my experience, unless going up against Alfrike where it does work very well

When to use him
To get the most out of him, you should ideally be facing a team with at least 2 DOT dealers. Myztero will only be useful if he gets hit with an appropriate ailment and is able to return it. The most suitable ones are:

AOE - do damage to all. These are perfect because Myztero will always be hit by them

  • JF
  • Vela
  • Most of the summer heroes
  • Azlar
  • Bera. This one is a bit of a unique one as her DOT is inflicted by her moths, but there is something like a 70% chance of one of her moths biting Myztero each turn, so I have included her here. Teams with Bere are a good candidate because of the moth poison as well as the prevention of minion generation, which effectively nullifies Bera’s special

Hit-3. These are not as good because there is a 60% chance of hitting Myztero as long as you place him in one of the 3 middle positions. Still, the odds are not bad

  • GM
  • Clarissa
  • Proteus
  • C Azlar

Note that C Azlar has an undispellable DOT but Myztero will memorise and cast this the same as any dispellable DOT

Hit-1. There are too many of these to list but include Marjanna, Sartana, etc. 20% chance of hitting Myztero. Team selection shouldn’t be based on having these heroes to face, although if he gets hit it is often a bonus (assuming her survives)

Other:

  • Jabber - hits edges only. You can place Myztero on the edge to guarantee being hit by him, if it makes sense

In addition to the DOTs he is able to send back other ailments like defense down, blind, etc. These are super useful to send back but should be a secondary consideration after DOT. Good heroes to face include Frigg, Drake, etc. However with blind you should wait to be cleansed first or risk missing with his special. Alrfike is a special use case where if you pair him with an ailment blocker like Grazul or Garnet you can return her super powerful special and virtually guarantee a win

@Homaclese

Excellent thread. Good work on initiating this. This thread will solicit ideas and actual experience of players being shared here. That way, it alleviates some players, especially the F2P, VC2P and C2P ones, the disappointment of getting these hated or less loved heroes by making them work with the other heroes they got by discussing about actual and potential synergies among them. This could be fun. Actually, this is fun.

However, can we add a few more heroes to the original post. I was contemplating about these:

• Zulag
• Ares
• Jade
• Fenrir
• Aegir
• Quintus w/o costume
• Horghall w/o costume
• Obakan with or w/o costume
• Guardian Owl
• Reuben
• Leonidas w/o costume
• Mok-Arr
• Inari
• Telluria (post nerf)

Thanks. I’ll start with some of the heroes above-mentioned.

Zulag

I have mine at 3/70. She is the defensive version of Ares, and the unimpressive attempt of Small Giant to dethrone the then dominant Telluria by introducing a few months after Telly’s release, feebly trying to confuse the playerbase where the paladin emblems would go. In the standard defense formation, she doesn’t provide some oomph for defensive capabilities. But in the alternative raid defense formation, she may shine on double or reverse double defense formation. I dunno. She may serve as an alternative to players who don’t have Bera/Freya and other purple defense powerhouse for their uni-purple tank in war. All purely speculation and only based on paper though.

Ares

If I am not mistaken, he was the very first legendary hero I have maxed way back in 2018, obtained when he was a featured hero in the early months of Atlantis. Back then, I was working on Azlar but put the latter on hold because, you know, Ares is (WAS) Ares. And when emblems were introduced, I put some talents on him up to +15 but hesitated to fully emblem him when beta beat provided us with a glimpse of Telluria (who I got very early on the month of the latter’s release as HOTM). Currently without emblems, he sees action only in class quests, or in my second monored team against green war tanks with him on the center flanked by 2 Gravemakers. On wars, Ares is supported by a level 25 mana troop so he can fire in 9 tiles. The two GMs flanking him are supported by a level 11 mana troop and level 20 crit troop. They are the core of that monored team. On the wings are other red heroes that can be interchanged, depending on the enemy defense.

I’ll reserve others heroes for future posts.

Ares is still great for titans, very few crit booster in red. Actually if I’m not mistaken Ares was the only one until Shadereave was introduced (but this attack stat is plain pathetic).

Zulag!

So I only have a couple of the heroes mentioned in the OP, but i was just posting elsewhere that my Zulag (currently +13, soon to be +18) next to Krampus was a major upgrade for my defense team. even if they take Krampus out, she herself is rather hard to take out. so even if an attack takes out Krampus, my defense continues to soak up multiple flags in wars. I think a lot of people think she’s just ‘underwhelming on paper’ and so haven’t bothered to max her (why would i ever give her tabards? she doesn’t ‘do’ anything. bah humbug! seriously the two Zulag threads on the forum are 400+ posts worth of that) but i’ve run into several now in raids and wars and they are a serious pain to deal with. Plus an alliance-mate had a maxed and emblemed Zulag at flank and his defense started doing really well when he added her. She may be slightly uninspiring to play with in offense and other parts of the game, but there is no doubt she is a great defensive hero. she also makes it into a (usually yurple) war team basically every war, adding some extra protection for some squishier 4s and 3/70 5s and does perfectly fine for that.

anybody that thinks Malicna is bad must either a) not have one or b) not faced one.or maybe they pulled her but didn’t max her or level her for some reason. again maybe because she looks ‘bad on paper?’ any comparison to Danzaburo is just crazy talk.

and finally a shout out to regular Kadilen, my first 5*, and who i have used - and still use - pretty much every day since i got her. :+1: plus you have to have respect for a woman who goes into battle in high heels.

Zulag is there at top 50 alliance level so that should say something. I see maybe an average of 2-3 teams a week who tank her.

I personally find her easy to overcome - just bring yellow stack and/or d down/special skill down. But you don’t have an infinite number of those available.

I think she would actually be much better in offense than defense where she can be an off color proterctor to a 4-stack, buying you time if your primary color is not coming up. Well, proetecting the most vital 2 heroes anyway. Unless you have 2 of her, that would be quite the impenetrable wall

Baldur

Another hero described as “useless”. The main reason people complain about him is that he does not produce a sniper level hit, or even a Tyr-level hit. On his own he does about 200-240 damage which people who run all their raids wham bam thank you ma’am don’t feel will have any impact on the match. And that may be true. However, if you have a battle of attrition build the outlook changes…

PVE
One of the bes theroes to have as part of any PVE - get his special up, protect it with layers of minions, and you have a DOT that won’t stop. Personally at my level of challenge event this will be super useful for me to kill mob leftovers and also help whittle the bosses where tiles dry up, but I can see for those who are competitive here he may not be the best choice

Team configuration

This is absolutely vital for Baldur. You will get the most benefit out of him if he keeps up his hit for a long, long time and that means your team has to survive for a long, long time too. Wilbur has great synergy with him - they charge up at the same time (once you get them to 9 tiles), Wilbur protects your team, and Baldur’s hit will either do a weaker AOE damage or his penetrate will end up causing a bigger hit on one hero - both outcomes are actually pretty good. I then go Lady Wool and Guillinbursiti for the heals - G also has great synergy with Wilbur as his attack up builds up in one turn, and also with Baldur as he helps to keep his overheal on. Finally I usually run Noor as the last - protection and also an ongoing DOT and minion removal

Once I have 4 more rings I will likely ascend Yang Mai who will slot into this team. She will increase the red stack strength, provide a frequent hit and most vitally increase the speed of all the other reds to make sure the defences can be shored up

Who to fight

This is equally important for Baldur. If you face a lot of healers you just won’t do enough damage over time. If you face a very attack heavy team you will likely be destroyed before you do enough damage. The sweet spot is a minion maker (Freya is perfect), a taunter (has virtually zero impact on the team config above), a healer/reviver, and 2 attackers. With this type of team Noor will handle minion mitigation whilst the rest should be able to keep you alive while you whittle everyone down. If you don’t mind 4+ minute matches then this will work! The big bonus is that Freya’s death will not cause a mana cut because of Baldur’s team-wide immunity once his special is up. Other great targets because of this immunity are:

  • Bera - although her minions won’t be handled as well by Noor. You want to bring a cleanser with you - C Rigard is good although it starts to bring a lot of color dependencies which is tricky. An alternative is Shale - this is basically the only use case I can come up for him, where he is Noor’s sidekick and cleanses for her just before she takes on Bera. Alternatively another minion counter in red such as C Gormerk, Gefjon. If you don’t do something about the minions they may end up overwhelming you

  • LOTL - she is perfect! Her minions are weak, and they won’t have any power on your team as long as Baldur is up

  • Jade - special’s mana cut won’t work, just the dodge

  • Noms - no mana cut just like Freya/Bera

  • Neith - only the blind will work

  • Guin - no mana cut. But I haven’t seen one in months…

  • I guess Leonidas? Don’t see many of him on defence

Stats, Emblems
Baldur gets to 930+ attack if you do attack all the way, and 921 if you choose the mana node - which you should, to get him to 9 tiles with a 17 mana. His high attack is needed to get decent DOT hits as well as giving the red stack some oomph

Titans
He is great in the high attack slot vs green titans. The slow special actually doesn’t impact you and when I do Shadereave, Wilbur, Ranvir his ongoing hits do about 1500 damage each turn, so round make that around 1000 average when counting the misses. That gives you a significant score boost at the end, as well as the high attack figure. Note that it does not work as well with Tarlak or Miki as they don’t boost specials and his ongoing attack is considered a special

Yes I got tired of sharing my thoughts and experience of unpopular heroes that I have managed to use effectively in the other threads and meeting nothing but negativity.
So instead of arguing with people who will never be convinced that these heroes can be used without a buff , this can be a negativity-free zone with only helpful experiences and ideas to help people see their pulling luck in a more positive light, or to get practical help with ascension decision-making.

It’s a game which should be fun. People seem to forget that. And this is a forum for people enthusiastic and passionate about the game, so 100% stuff we talk about here can and should be fun too.
