Heroes that surprised me

Horghall: Even at 3-70 he is not exactly easy to take down and provides stability to a green stack. As @LucasDaoc said don’t underestimate survivability and health. Would consider ascending him if I don’t pull October’s HOTM

Isarnia: Flimsy defence stats but if you seldomly pull HOTM like me she is your main way to break through an opponent that is over-emblemed with top dogs like Zeline and Seshat. I regret giving emblems to Sartana.

Merlin: is no Hansel but is amazing in a purple stack.

Obakan: Fast special (in terms of short animation time) for a fast auto-farm team. If Zimkitha’s animation was faster I’d have a really fast auto farm team. My weak links are Grimm and Little John who take time to fill up.

What are yours?

My autofarming team is kageburado gravemaker isarnia evelyn jackal…
For some season advanced 2 lvls…
Delilah isarnia khagan elena tarlak the healing/minions and the powerfull slows can auto run almost everylvl on season2 normal mode

Elkanen and Kadilen. I know they’re not super well-regarded, but I have had trouble facing them as tanks before. And both have specials that increase their survivability.

Domitia:
She is not as good as Seshat. She summons no minions, is slower and deals less damage.
But she is still on average mana speed like Proteus, deals a good bunch of damage and dispeals buffs.
I used her a lot in raiding on offense even at 2600+ and I had been a great fan of her.

Oh also her light defence buff is actually good during buffbooster tournaments

My autofarming team: evelyn, grave, frida, seshat, joon

I was surprised how useful my Leonidas was in both fights against Ursula.

Morgan Le Fay. She is a hero I used to not even pay attention but man can she be a complete nightmare if she gets to fire her special. Ive watched enemies lose to a single Morgan Le Fay standing in wars as a few of my alliance members run her religiously.

Don’t see her often in defenses, but Rana has at times surprised me… her burn/dot is substantial and not being able to heal that well for 2 turns can be the difference between a win and loss.

Surprises

  • Little John: I thought it was a waste ascending him, but he has been useful in stacking and in the right situations.
  • Cyprian: Early on let me finish rare quests.
  • Wu Kong: Everyone raves about him, now I know why. Huge fan.
  • Renfeld: I’m constantly surprised how bad he is. He was my first non-Bane 3 star. /cringe
  • Sonya: She keeps creeping into my lineup, I use her a lot.
  • Boldtusk: Just got him, I see why everyone loves him now.

Lady Locke. I use her in raid and it’s a great help using this technique: when her special is ready I fire it towards the hero(es) I WILL NOT target with tiles. Usually when I’m finished with the heroes I was targeting with tiles there is little to none of the hero(es) I fired her special against.

I pulled Domitia and Obakan back to back from TC20. I asked for advice here and decided to go with Domitia. While I would love to have Sartana, I already have Joon and Magni so I can’t complain. I really like Domitia since she hits nearly as hard as the other snipers though at avg mana. I also love the defense against yellow hero’s and even though I use Melendor+16, who dispells nicely, I still like the dispel from Domitia when I have already used Mel and need new one’s removed.
She is even better with emblems as she can evade attacks which make the enemy basically waste a special. Plus after her v20 buff she is very useful. I would still max Sartana in an instant but I don’t regret for a minute maxing Domitia. Obakan still sits at 1.1 though he might be useful if I don’t pull Sartana in TC20. If Sartana is a 10, I think an emblemed Domitia is at least a 9 if not a 9.5.

LJ is good early on and I used to fear him when I had only 3* hero’s but he is nothing now. Cyprian is useful as well but more so than LJ and can carry you up to platinum though Boril is the more common choice.
Renfeld, well, he’s a purple Greymane. nuff said.
Wu, Sonya and BT great heros that you can use for quite some time esp Wu and BT. Sonya is a Caedmon clone(or Caedmon is a Sonya clone…LOL). I recently got both and just maxed Caedmon and am working on Sonya now mainly for war as I already have Melendor and Domitia to debuff and Triton fills nearly the same role as Sonya without the debuff.

Guardian Jackal would fit that bill. I got him during the previous Guardians Pull (not the one that just ended in August). They say you never really know how I hero works (or not work) for you unless you see them in action, or better yet, get some hands-on experience. So before I got him, all I ever hear about G.J. is that he is a glass cannon, but Titan specialist. However, I believe you need to truly place him in the party to take him out for a drive to see what all the hubbub is about and make that determination yourself.

Of course, I know better to take infant Jackal (1^1) out to play, I didn’t actually start putting him in until he was around 4^60-ish, and even then I couldn’t really tell if he was good or not because true to his alias, he gets killed off by Titans way too quickly with his paper thin defense. This is until one day, when we faced off again a 8* Purple, and I decided to take BT, Wilbur, GJ (then 4^70 and emblemed), Chao, and Wu Kong to play. And when that one fight the board was friendly with Red and Yellow… That’s when the surprise happened. Attack Buff (BT), Wilbur (Defense Down), GJ (Holy Defense Down), Chao (Color Stack), Wu Kong (Gamblers Stance and Yellow Stack)…. I was doing about 5k - 6k damage per yellow tile, and that fight got me my first 6 digit Titan damage. I would’ve had even higher score if I had enough time to pop that last yellow diamond.

So Guardian Jackal… Surprised me how well he worked, when things worked.

Talented Scarlett can really be an all around hero, much more of many legendary.

I upgraded first my Jackal, but her is next for sure.

Surprised by -
Bold Tusk… revived all by himself multiple times for victory - the opponents were just so shocked they succumbed to tile damage.

Inari… Dodging all team mates away from danger, more frequently than her card suggests.

Hel & Onatel working collaboratively. They take turns to fire their specials, and steal mana from one side and block mana on the other side - glorious!

Kunchen. He is sturdy enough at 3 70. Now with +4 emblem, he keep my lousy team in 2500 overnight.

Gadeirus has shown to be much more useful than Kashhrek. The second one is just a bit overrated tank, while Gad is a very good team empowerer, and being from atlantis family makes it good to pair him with Triton.

I still wish he were average speed

Marjana with emblems. I had other rogue heroes evade attacks before she’s the one i fear the most. Lost some raids battles simply for her evading sniper attacks hell she evaded 3 in a row once.

Inari. Lots of players find her underwhelming but she’s like a mini mother North or Alby in that she can win fights on her own - the other two revive dead heroes but she keeps the heroes alive in the first place. I pair her with Drake for dodge/blind and enemies have a real hard time taking out my team if they fire.
